A complete waste of money. It’s bulky, and the plastic breaks off easily. It overheats, shuts down randomly, and only has a shelf life of 1.5 years. Mine is completely dead. Show details

reset bios wise so often. It is using rock stock settings but a simple task like a ram or hdd upgrade will make life very difficult. I have been using notebook's since before Win 95 and never encountered a machine that was so easy to crash so hard that only a full clearance of the bios would fix it. During its failures it very often would crash during a windows update. Not a big deal on a normal pc with a decent bios but this particular machine would almost always require a full bios reset. I suppose not a big deal but honestly I really didnt want a machine that I had to open up on a regular basis just to keep software up to date.Also the cherry on the top I would say that if you ever decide to do a complete clean install of an operating system it wont allow you to do so unless you completly clear the bios during the process by the usual disassembly method. It wont allow install disks or drives to rewrite the boot sectors caucusing the machine and disk to become unbootable requiring additional software to correct the issue AND the need to remove the drive and install in another machine to fix. Then there is its performance during games, the video chipset is reasonably quick and stable using default settings without a ram upgrade but it did benafit by going to 32 gb. I have used windows 10 and 11 on this machine and had the same problems with both.
To sum up If I didnt know my way around the inside of a computer this piece of junk would spend more time at a tech repair that in my own use. As long as there are no windows updates it works just fine but when it does you are in for problems. I wont be buying another Acer ever after this pile of junk I will be returning to ASUS or Lenovo Thinkpads.
Great little powerhouse for the price – This has been great for the price and still going strong 2 years later. Slapped on some extra RAM and SSD for cheap, and do use a laptop cooler as with pretty much every gaming laptop. It runs most games fine, along with 3D CAD software, the Adobe suite and more. Only downsides the battery life isn't great, material is plasticky but I'm fine with these cost compromises as they put more into the internals.
Probably the worst non-Apple computer I've ever used – Two main problems: 2. The CPU and GPU are great on paper, but due to insufficient cooling, you'll get much much less performance in practice because of thermal throttling. whether it's a power supply issue, but the sockets seem to occasionally disconnect for a brief moment. Seems to happen more when the computer is under load. If this happens during a file transfer, it can cause untold damage. This flaw has caused me more lost time and data than all the malware I've ever been hit by combined.
It’s very good but… – It is very good in every aspect but it does have some major cooling problems and when I play simple games it’s about 97-99 degrees and it turned off yesterday and won’t turn back on so I’ve sent it back for repairs
Very good laptop for 3D rendering – The laptop is great. The RTX 3070 perform very well when 3D rendering and the 11th Gen. Intel CPU is more than enough. I had toninstall extra 16Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD extra, but still well worth it and much better value than most brands. Show details
Excellent laptop for video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro – I bought this laptop to make YouTube content. I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro, which was completely unuseable on my old HP Pavilion all-in-one. to use low-res proxies or turn off effects in order to scrub through sequences. This Nitro 5 with i9 processor is truly "The right stuff!". Can't comment on battery life as I mostly use it plugged in to AC and with a large monitor. SSD isn't huge but I always archive projects to a portable HDD, so not an issue. My only complaint is that HN dropped the price $700 less than 1 month after I bought it *Grrr!*
Rubbish – This is such an awful laptop, I feel robbed. The keyboard is terrible with a tiny right shift-key making it useless for serious typing or writing anything work related. majority compared to 16 for this). I was going to go with the Ryzen 7, but in CPU benchmarks the Intel out-performed the Ryzen 4800h found in other gaming laptops of similar price.
I mainly bought this because of price and it's upgrade options. Most business laptops were very limited in what you could upgrade later. There's 2x memory slots each being able to hold 16GB (32GB max). Although, this only comes with 1x8GB module which severely hamstrings it's speed on single channel. Funnily enough, although I thought it was an SSD issue (as when MOVING files, it took a long time and became unresponsive for 30-60sec) it's actually the RAM. I put in an extra 8GB and problem solved. There's also room inside for an extra M.2 SSD (to the right) and 2.5" HDD/SSD (bottom left, cable included in box - unlike some ASUS models).
I don't use the laptop for gaming, mainly work and ripping my DVD collection. Using Handbrake it can convert most 2hr videos in about 10-15min depending on the compression used. And all 16 cores are maxing out at 100%. Even so, the laptop is still responsive (* there is an issue though as above). The fans a little on the loud side, but you can adjust speeds if you want with the Acer software.
Hooking up an extra monitor is easy. If you need the power of the inbuilt GPU for games, then use the HDMI port. Otherwise, just connect a multiport USB-C hub for ease of use.
Battery life isn't the best - at around 3-4hrs not doing anything particular heavy. I suppose you could turn some things off and get more life. But lets be realistic - most are going to have it plugged to get the best performance out of it.
There's plenty of ports too - RJ45 Ethernet, 3xUSB3.2, a USB-C, HDMI out and multi audio port. They do tend to get in the way a bit as they're closer to the front (if you're using something that particularly hangs out like USB flash drives). Shame they couldn't put them toward the back on the side or on the back itself. Using the USB-C port with a portable SSD (M.2 SSD inside) I was getting read speeds of about 550MB/s (although slowed a bit when the SSD heated up).
The laptops a little on the heavy side, but that's part and parcel for gaming laptops. I'm not a fan of the sharp edges or the red plastic at the back either (makes it look a bit tacky). Acer obviously wanted to make it look like a race car and could look a bit out of place in a work environment. But for the spec's you get for the price, I can overlook that.
The light colours on the keyboard can be change in windows no worries - even changing all four zones to something different. Linux runs on this as well, although I haven't been able to change colours and defaults to red. You can however change the brightness easily though using the function keys. Apparently there is an app to change colours but haven't set it up entirely yet.
All up, at RRP it's a little pricey compared to other offerings. At under $1300 - it's great value (and with the $100 gift card brings it down further). Even adding $50 for an extra stick of 8GB memory doesn't extort the price compared to others. If you can get over it's aesthetics, its a great entry level gaming/business laptop with some future proofing options.

Good laptop, mouse pad useless – I've had this laptop for just over a year and about 2 months ago (out of warranty), the mouse pad began to stop consistently working and will just randomly stop responding. will work again, just for it to stop 10mins later. For a laptop with great gaming processors, you'd kind of expect the mouse to work.
Bad screen quality – In one year i had to fix the screen twice, and i use the pc for study in desk. The screen was broken only for a normal close of the laptop. I also had problems with the sound and the pad. Bad quality and bad after service
Acer flatly refuse to sell me one key cap – The clips that hold the key cap down broke on one key on my son's gaming computer. They flatly refuse to sell me this one key. Instead the want me to pay for a whole uppercase for which they quoted me $308,00. Do not buy a Acer! Show details
Great laptop, love the colored keyboard – I installed an SSD and with using a password, my laptop is ready to use within 15 seconds. Its really good for what I want, being an i5 its not superfast for making videos etc, but great for basic web surfing and downloading youtube videos etc. Show details

although fan does come on quite frequently to keep the unit cool.
Product detail says good as a gaming laptop with on-board chip-set, although we only use this for class work and suits our purpose well.
