The main ingredient works pretty well, though the perfume they use is a real problem. Given how common it is for people with persistent acne to also have chemical and perfume sensitivities I think it's *wild* how highly perfumed these products are. If they had a sensitive line, it just skipped the perfume all together it'd be a good product. As is all that products actually cause redness and pain, especially when used together. Show details
Takes weeks but really works – Took weeks but really worked for me!! Zero smell as well. I have Asian skin (and am a wee bit Scottish) probably somewhere between normal and dry. Show details
didn’t work for me – it hasn’t worked for me. i hope it works for others but ive been using for 6 months now and my skin is still bad, just in different places. for the record i have very oily skin so i may just need to back to the prescription stuff. bummer. Show details

I don’t think it’s for all skin types – Feels good on the skin. Made my skin break out even more. Maybe I’m not using it right? Show details
Works well Benzac AC 10 – Benzac AC 10, I've had pustule rosacea for a few years, especially on my nose. Nothing has ever worked accept antibiotics, tried so many different creams to no avail. Did my own research after getting nowhere with doctors, came across Benzac AC 10, pretty much cost an arm and a leg lol, it's pharmacy medicine, not on shelf in the %10 variety,… Read more
it's behind counter. It has been good. The cream will bleach clothing and bedding etc , however you can get around that with care, I only use it once a day in the morning now that my rosacea has improved ,beginning I used it morning and night. I had prescription creams, over counter creams, told to get laser treatment, red light therapy, you name it I have tried it , all useless, doctors just say there is no cure, I do apply moisturiser before the Benzac AC 10. This significantly reduces skin irritation for me. It's not a cure, but it helps.
Good TZone moisturizer, not around eyes, burns! – Great for acne/blackhead Tzones, stay away from eyes, very red, watery eyes immediately after application. Show details
- +2
Use with extreme caution! – Be very careful. Mild acne went to more severe pustules. Flaky Inflamation. This should not be sold over the counter. Used it sparingly aswell! This is day 3 before/after pics Show details

An effective remedy, but not a long-term solution to persistent acne – Key takeaway: * Best value for money when it comes to over the counter topical benzoyl peroxide treatment. With the amount I needed to apply for my moderate acne, one tube lasted me two and a half months using it once a day/night (applied at night before bed). * Highly effective at completely clearing closed comedomes. On the places I applied… Read more
the gel, closed comedones were cleared within a month or so of using this product (though it's worth noting I'd been using Oxy 10 for 2 months prior but it didn't have a noticeable effect on my closed comedones for that period). * Will not help with blackheads * Healing of scars takes a long time but using sunscreen can help * If you have persistent acne, this product doesn't have much of a preventative effect but will help with the healing process
I have been using topical benzoyl peroxide consistently for 3 months now and it has allowed for most of my acne to transition from active acne to post-inflammatory erythema acne scars (keep in mind, these scars are not pretty and take many months to disappear completely, but because they're flat, they conceal well under makeup). That being said, I do still regularly develop new pimples despite consistent application of the cream/gel. But this will probably not be the case for everyone, hence why some tout it as a miracle cream that cured their acne while it doesn't have the same effect for others. This is likely due to the underlying cause of your acne - if that cause isn't a one-off thing, you're probably still going to keep developing acne. So, this is not a long-term solution to prevent the formation of acne, but does help in treating existing acne by significantly reducing inflammation and allowing pimples to heal relatively fast. I have tried both 5% and 10% of topical benzoyl peroxide creams (OXY 5 and OXY 10) and gel (Benzac AC Gel 10%) and found that they were all equally as effective, the only difference was that the 10% (gel and cream) was significantly more drying and my skin where I applied it became constantly flaky, even when moisturiser was applied. The difference between the cream and gel was minimal - they both looked exactly the same on, the gel just had a slightly thicker consistency, and apart from that, the 60g 10% gel bottle at $29 was more value for money and lasted me longer than the 25g OXY 10 cream at $15. Using the cream/gel only at night, washing it off in the morning and applying an oil-free moisturiser (I used QV's oil-free moisturiser) was the best way to prevent flakiness for me. If you do want to use the product twice a day, I recommend giving your skin a bit of a break in-between uses - put it on at night before bed, and reapply after washing your face in the morning but let your skin sit without any product on (aside from an oil-free moisturiser if you like) for at least 5 hours before reapplying again before bed. As others have warned, this will bleach your sheets and clothes, and if you have dark hair also be warned that it will bleach the hair that falls onto your face as well so try to keep your hair away from your face if you can while you have the product on.
Ultimately, I'd recommend this product mainly to those that have had a one-off bad breakout that they want to heal quickly, and there's no real need to up the dose and reach for the 5% or 10% unless you want more of a drying effect. I wouldn't recommend long-term use for those with persistent acne if you are looking to get rid of your acne for good, but it will help accelerate the healing processes for your existing acne. It's probably the only other thing that will help you see a noticeable result, although not a long-term one, if you don't want to use isotretinoin.
UPDATE: It's been four months now of using topical benzoyl peroxide (2 months of using the Benzac gel) and my skin has cleared up really noticeably. My scars have shrunk and faded quite a bit and my skin no longer feels bumpy to the touch. It's worth noting that I started using an oil-free non-comedogenic sunscreen a few weeks ago which may have helped with the healing process. My closed comedones completely cleared where I applied the product within a month of using the gel, but blackheads still remain. I'm not breaking out as much as I used to. Will continue to update this review with any changes.
So good, it's changed my self-esteem (4.5 STARS!) – Summary: 5% on my generally bad skin removed all redness and inflammation on my face, making me look like A different person, in the span of 9 hours. Just be aware if you have eczema or dry/sensitive skin! This product has drastically improved my self-esteem! I don't suffer from an aggressive form of acne, but I do have generally bad skin. I've… Read more
tried using different cleansers, toners, exfoliants and pimple creams but everything I've tried hasn't actually taken away the redness or inflammation of my skin. But THIS? My mum bought the 5% for me yesterday and I put it on at about 11am (on the box, it says to put it on of a night time if you want to try it). I woke up today and went to clean my face and when I tell you that the redness and inflammation that I've been trying to get rid of for years now went away in the span of 9 hours I mean it. It has worked so effectively, that I look completely new.
My skin has always been an insecurity of mine, but my complexion is so much more clear and even! It's so powerful and worked so quickly, it's the best product I've ever used for my skin.
I have to take points away from it because it's so effective that my skin becomes flakey and dry (of course, this is a price I'm willing to pay!). I suffer from eczema a TINY bit on my face (it's sometimes on my neck and fingers- but it's not that big of a deal) and my skin tends to get really dry if I don't moisturise straight after cleansing. So if you do have eczema issues or very dry/sensitive skin, make sure that you're using a great moisturiser or cream on the affected area.
As I've only had this product for 2 days now, I can't see all of the side effects, but I look like a new person because of this. THANK YOU!
Somewhat effective treatment – As an Adult I use Benzac AC 10% acne gel however dont expect it just to work over night. On average it takes about 4 days before the acne starts to subside and begins to disappear and am continually applying once to twice daily after cleansing my face till the acne is just about gone. I find it effective to apply as soon as I feel the bump of the… Read more
pimple and is not yet noticible/acne has not began to surface fully. This stops the pimple from forming any big white head and stops me from wanting to pop pimples leading to problem scarring,
When applying, I have to use only a dab enough to lightly blot onto the pimple and to be careful not to smear it around the skin it self as the creme dries out skin causing mine to flake and peel. Furthermore if used too much of it, it can leave a visible white mark and is noticible. I still get the odd pimple weekly regardless if I use the creme and it cannot be used beforehand to prevent acne occurring it in the first place, it just is a treatment for the acne when it actually happens.
Overall using the creme is best together with other things such as not eating junk food, lollies, chips etc, and keeping good clean personal hygiene and making sure having enough sleep. Benzac AC acne treatment wont work alone on it's own.

The only thing that fixed my adult acne! – I've been on so many medicated solutions for my acne; antibiotics, creams etc and this was the one to fix it! I've been using the 3 step kit with the cleanser, cream (10%) and moisturizer for a month now and my skin is clearer now than it was pre-puberty. Awesome product and super affordable. Show details
This has completely fixed my adult acne – I started using this around six months ago. The first month there was a lot of peeling. The packet did say to start on the 2% or 5%, but I’m not that kind of girl; I went straight for the 10%. Over the next few months, the acne was going down so slowly I wasn’t really even sure it was happening. Now, six months in, it’s virtually gone. My skin is… Read more
so smooth, even the “bumpiness”, the small textured blackheads, have gone. And I’d tried everything before that. I still get pimples every so often, but they’re so manageable and I’m now that person who says “I have a zit!”, rather than “I have acne all over my face”. If you can get through the big peel (was a little embarrassing), it’s so worth it. I feel so secure now. I’m not self conscious about my face anymore and it’s honestly wonderful.

Literally love it, saved my life – My face as never reacted so well to any acne cream but benzac literally saved my life. For the first time I can leave the house confidently without makeup on! The only problem is that it dried out my skin but that is fixed with hydrating masks. Show details

Worse experience ever – I use to have a pimple/2 when it was my month cycle then put benzac on it,it helped a lot,but then I decided to buy the full products, worse decision ever made,l used them for almost 2 months now,I regret ever buying the whole products,I developed bad acne on my face and it becomes itchy, decided to stop today Show details
Beware! – As someone with moderate to severe acne, consisting of both cystic and fungal acne, I wanted to try out benzoyl peroxide as it was a suggestion from my skin doctor. Initially I used the BENZAC AC WASH 5% and this did help me a lot. However, this product is either discontinued or not currently sold where I live. Instead I went for the Ph Balanced… Read more
Antibacterial Facial Wash by BENZAC instead and my skin was worse than it has ever been. Pus filled pimples everywhere, my face is ruined. I have combination skin, oily, and it left me feeling stripped and bumpy. I thought it was a purge and kept using it for about two weeks but it only got worse. BENZAC, you owe me a compensated dermatologist trip.
is this because of the benzac cream? – This product works really well and fast. I \applied it for the first time and the next day half my pimples were gone. ive been applying it or almost 4 weeks and it was working fine, until i woke up this morning and applied more then i usually put. After a few minutes i walked to the car and when i looked into the car mirror i saw 2 red large marks… Read more
on my forehead. My face is starting to irritate. I'm not sure if the marks were from the benzac but it wasnt there before i applied it?

It is not a gel – Very disappointed that this advertised as a gel when it is a cream. Have not found it overly useful. It feels nicer on the skin than the competitor’s but I think the other brand works better. Overall, disappointed especially since it’s not cheap. Show details
Drying and causes milia – I've been using this product for about a month now, as a 2nd try after a few yrs ago i tried it and it gave me millia so i discontinued it. I have mild to moderate acne thanks to my genetics. I was told to use this by dr's and as a substitute for the old 'miracle cream" proactiv. I wash my face as per the bottles directions in the shower. When… Read more
i get out i apply nutrogena oil free moisture and my skin drinks it in. (As opposed to days where i don't use the benzac my skin isn't so dry)
I did notice it did take away some of the overall redness of my skin temporarily when i first started. My face seemed to be more 1 toned and even in appearance for a little while.
But then...Within 2 weeks of using this cream i had severely peeling dry raw skin despite applying moisturiser routinely and not having the issue when i don't use the Benzac.
I also noticed around the 2 week mark that I had numerous white dots under my skin that had formed almost like white cysts ie. Milia. Milia is one of those things that left untreated, grows into an unsightly white head/cyst like thing on your face. So basically, its giving me severe acne that require intervention to be rid of. You can't just squeeze milia away regardless of how hard you try lol. And these weren't the size of tiny pores like babies get, some of these capsules were the size of a sewing pin head or larger and getting bigger by the day.
I stopped using the product and eventually was able to remove all the milia and never got any more. I now use the Thursday island plantation foaming face wash and its mildly drying but muuuuch gentler on my skin and haven't had any milia since the switch.
Overall, i can't recommend this product. All it does is dry out your skin until its a broken raw mess.
So excellent – My 14 year old son has been struggling with acne. I’ve tried everything except medication and certainly did not want to go down that road. In chemist, thought I’d buy Benzac. If it didn’t work, it’s just another thing. Two weeks later his skin is clearing and he’s feeling a lot better about himself. It’s brilliant stuff. Show details
Only product that cleared up my adult acne – I have never in my life suffered from bad skin...until I reached my late 30's. I started developing very big and sore, red cystic acne on my chin that would last months and was so embarressing. I then went on antibiotics and used topical antiobiotics which would clear it up and then another one would come in. Then last year I started getting it on… Read more
my forehead. It was awful. I have tried every product under the sun. One day I was in priceline and seen the 3 pack of wash, spot treatment and moisturiser and thought, why not. I read the reviews and was a bit nervous after seeing that it could cause dryness. But it didnt with me and within a month my skin was clear. I still wake up every morning having that dread feeling, like what is going to be there today, and nothing. I have been using it everyday for about 4 months and my skin has been fantastic. I highly recommend.
It's fine, but didn't really help. The moisturiser burns my skin – I have moderate to severe adult acne and oily skin. I bought the face wash/2.5mg treatment/moisturiser trio. I had fairly decent results with the 2.5mg and went up to the 10mg (daily for few hours or overnight). The 10mg caused irritation/dryness if I used it too often (as expected) so I had to give my skin a break every couple of days and avoid… Read more
applying it to areas of the face that get dry or don't have acne.
I found that in general the treatment reduced acne inflammation a few hours after applying, which was nice, but (having also asked some people around me) it didn't noticeably clear my skin at all (I guess I kept getting new acne) I used it for several months (3-6?), used a whole tube of the 2.5mg and like a quarter of the 10mg before giving up on it. Possible that I gave up too soon.
I also found it made my acne scars darker while using. Maybe because of drying.
My skin can't tolerate the moisturiser for some reason. It immediately makes my face feel hot and sometimes burning/painful, particularly if I use it with the treatment. So I don't use that. The applicator was nice with the twist/pump thing.
The face wash is OK but I prefer other brands. I liked the foam pump applicator. If you don't have oily skin it's probably good, but for me it wasn't 'strong' enough and I felt it might have been irritating my skin slightly or causing small breakouts.
For me over all some of the products were bad and the treatment didn't really improve my acne problem. I'd recommend buying just the treatment if you want to try it and using your preferred moisturiser and face wash.

Terrible!!! – I have suffered with hormonal acne since I was a teenager and have tried everything from prescription meds to whatever the latest acne clearing fad is going around both medicated and “natural”. but recently purchased Benzac AC 3 step kit as proactiv seems to be sold out everywhere atm. Well all I can say is DO NOT use benzac ac! My skin has completely broken out after 3 years of clear, perfect skin! Iv gone from being confident to go out without makeup to now not wanting to leave the house! Thank goodness we are in isolation atm lol. Iv managed to find my beloved proactiv 3 step kit which I quickly ordered to fix the mess benzac has done to my skin!
Helps in clearing Pus out of pimples – I had pus breakouts on my skin during the bush fire season and the extreme smoky weather. I used this product as an initial step . It helped in safely clearing out the pus within 2-3 days but din't help much in clearing out the spot caused after it . It doesn't cause any irritation and is good on my skin Show details
BENZAC AC Mild Strength 2.5% Acne Gel – This is one of the biggest things responsible for clearing my acne (NOT pimples, acne) as a teenager. I discovered this at around 16 and after implementing the routine… Read more
above, I remember my acne disapearing so quickly and it was almost entirely gone within a month. I am now 24 and my routine has changed to target new things (brightening, hydration, exfoliation and improving clarity further), this product always remains a staple in my skincare. I do not need to use this nightly anymore but can rely on it to help me out if I try something new that doesn't agree with me (more pimples) or around the time of my period. I recommend this to everyone who has acne - but ALWAYS make sure they know they need to apply a very moisturising cream after (eg: an extremely affordable one is Nivea Soft which I have also reviewed). I go through about 4 of these tubes a year and back when I had acne it was WAY more. This company should hire me as a spokesperson!
flaky skin./not good for sensitive/ dry skin – not good for sensitive skin.i have been using this for about 1 and half month although it's side effects were harsh on my skin yet, no changes can be seen .It made my skin super flaky and skin peeling was pretty intense..It is effective for small pimples/acne but was not as good as i thought for my huge hormonal acnes also. The good thing is that it dries out the pimples fast and maybe the reason for the flakes around my pimples.maybe Show details
Not a good choice for adult Acne – Suffer from Adult hormanal acne and extremely oily skin. Tried this product based on a recommendation. Brought the 3 step 2.5% pack. correctly and gave my skin breaks for the spot cream. My Acne developed into pus filled red sore lumps that looked and felt awful. I tried this product for 3 and a half weeks weeks before stopping. I only saw that slight improvement in the beginning and since then has only appeared to make acne worse. It also made my face seem dull and patchy. I used product strictly as instructed. Wouldn't recommend this product to anyone in a similar situation to mine. Went back to using La Roche Posey 3 step acne system and after a week my face is looking dramaticly different and improved. I don't normally write reviews but having acne as an adult has effected my confidence and self esteem I felt the need to share and help out others going through the same thing. Hope this helps
Cheap and nasty :) – Been using this stuff for a few years now. I only use it when I need it though. Its cheap and works really good for removing acne. It does day around 4 days to start working though and found that it removes the redness that acne leaves behind. I think its more about acne prevention when it comes to this product. Seems it doesn't actually remove… Read more
zits and stuff but prevents new ones from forming which in turn removes them. I use the %10 gel. Also, remember less is better. So don't pack it onto your skin just a little pea size bit of cream works. I also put a very light moisturizer on top to stop the Benzac causing redness which works. It still dries the skin out a bit but looks better than acne and I only use this stuff for about 2 weeks straight only when I need it. Also, I only use it at night before I go to bed.
So far so good! – I've been using the product for around 3 months now. I suffer from VERY oily skin, blackheads and mild breakouts which happen in unpredictable patterns. nose but that eased after the first week. In the last week it's getting more humid so I have started using the 5% gel in the morning and 2.5% in the evening. I am a little dry at the moment so I may need to tweak my routine. My results so far have resulted in no more white head breakouts. My skin was previously plagued by blackheads and while not perfect it is 100 times better. My pores look less congested and I am hopeful this will continue to clear as I keep my sebum levels under control and my skin cells do their thing; a lifetime of imperfection can't be erased over night. It's super soft and looks much brighter. Less is more with this product so don't overdo it... Remember to wear a good sunscreen if you spend some time in the sun. So far I am loving this product and my skin looks the best for the first time since I hit puberty!
Swollen limpy skin it is not worth it – I used the benzac 3 steps at 5% for no longer than three days.. And my skin now has small lumpy blisters all over I wish I could upload pictures.. It hurts so bad and I don't know how to get rid of them.. It is embarrassing this should not be sold off the shelf it should be behind the counter I wish I had of spent the money on proactive as that was what I originally want but it was sold out... and intensity then they are gone, I love this gel. I have used heaps of things for my skin and this is the best, stuck with it for 2 and a half years and I look like a brand new person. I don't use their washes because I reckon it would be too drying to use the wash and a gel. Use a gentle cleanser like Qv or Cetaphil or any other cream cleansers (All natural is best), I now use Sukin all natural Cream cleanser, And then I put on Benzac 2.5 percent and it does kill the pimples. I find the soft cleanser and the pimple killing gel works great haha, gives the skin a good balance.
