I purchased the 2026 Sealion 7 Premium through a novated lease and collected the vehicle late June. Over a months worth of driving around town and on the highway my experience and general satisfaction with this vehicle is mixed. The good: > Fit and finish is pretty good > The ride around town is fine and generally handles bumps ok > It’s quiet other then highway speed > the navigation screen is big and pretty responsive. > I like the proper indicator stalks, windscreen controls and gear levers > quick acceleration.

The not so good: > heavy and inefficient car. At anything over 100km/hr efficiency drops markedly and I have been flat out trying to keep it below 22kwh/100km. > wind noise on drivers side becomes very noticeable above about 90km/hr. > car wanders in the lane on the highway and you have to continually micro adjust to keep it in the centre. This is despite tyres being inflated correctly and steering on sports. > radio glitches on startup and crackles sometimes. A soft reboot hasn’t fixed it. > I can’t seem to get a comfortable position in the drivers seat. With my foot on the footrest my left knee rubs on the centre console. I’ve tried countless adjustments and still the same. Very annoying! > the internal trim on the boot lid has sagged. It is parked in the sun most days but still this shouldn’t occur. It hasn’t occurred in my other vehicles. Pretty disappointing. > same with the in door trim. They haven’t sagged but when left in the sun there are creaks and groans when you touch the moulding. As a result I would have to question the longevity. > no spare tyre and if you purchase a space saver it will take up most of the boot. The false floor could have been raised and a space saver could have easily fitted under. This would have been a lot better than the goo kit supplied especially in Australia.

If BYD addressed these issues it would be a good car. Would I have bought it if I knew what I’ve experienced….probably not.

We bought a brand new BYD sealion 7, waited months for arrival and then very disappointed to be told that floor mats and boot liner must be purchased separately. Very disappointed!!
