Great idea, not great execution – Pros: 1. Less traumatic than clippers 2. Easy to use 3. Safe 4. Quiet Cons: 1. Battery pack 2. Nail guide restrictive for bigger dogs We have been using dremels for years on dog nails, but the cords and speed of them always created a challenge with dogs, they wouldn't like the noise, and they were hard to control with the cord. When we saw the pet dremel it was a no brainer for us. Using it is easy, but my biggest issue is the battery pack, it doesn't fit flush in the base of the unit, causing it to switch off mid use, you then need to give it a wriggle to get it working again. This is clearly a design fault, the way the pack clips in is very very substandard, and embarrassing for a company of the reputation of dremel, although the versatility of the unit, particularly with big dog black nails that you can't see the quick, it allows you to grind it back carefully without causing trauma or pain. I never use clippers because it would always turn into a frantic wrestle with the dog. With the dremel, my rotti just lays down with his paw on your lap and enjoys the sensation. I have had a look at the more recent versions of this device and noticed the battery pack issue has been rectified. If you look at purchasing one of these, go for the newer version, avoid this version at all costs.

Life changer! – I have two 12 years old pups and they always hated nail clipping. As they got older, it got harder, and they started to resist more and more. I hate causing stress for them so I bought this just to see if it's better. They don't love it but there is no running away and hiding at least. Very happy with the product.

Looking for other options – Bought at bunnings. The battery pack won't stay in due to flimsy quality/plastic, but probably just a bad batch. The real problem is it uses a flat sanding disk that flicks the nail sideways when only light pressure is applied. The guard is also not really helpful for angling the toe etc. A sanding band style (with guard) seems a better design, which other brands or older dremels (overseas) have.

Excellent for dog nails – I bought the Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Kit at Bunnings via the special orders desk for $59 as my dog's nails are black and when it comes to cutting her nails I worry that I may trim too far. The Dremel kit runs on AA batteries and is easy to set up. The noise that it emits is not too loud (about as loud as a men's electric shaver), however there is an instruction sheet inside which shows you how to train your dog to become familiar with the pet nail filer if they are anxious. The plastic safeguard on the tip of the filer is useful to align your pet's nails and it also acts as a dust guard to collect the nail powder which is very useful.
I have been using this on my dog for 2 months with no problems, and we have not had to use a replacement sanding disc yet.
