Fisher & Paykel Vented Dryer DE Series

The machine was easy to instal and is reliable, sensing works fairly well. But.. started rattling on the second use & got worse but not affecting use. Main issue is it bundles all larger items like sheets and covers into a ball that thuds and doesn’t dry them because it keeps returning the fabric into a ball. Have loved previous FP machines but this one is a dud. Poor cheap design. Show details
Do not Buy – Worst dryer I’ve had in half a century of laundry duty. Rolls sheets into a tight ball. Many other users say the same. No customer service from F&P. Do not purchase! Show details

places like waist bands etc .set on heavy , dry, extra dry and high heat settings. My old 5kg f&p dryer was much faster and everything came out dry. Also I hung mine on the wall and fitted the reverse sticker panel but the LED panel was still upside down and it took me forever to find out how to invert it.The process for this is nowhere to be found in your booklet.Im sure 95% of people are staring at an upside down LED.On the plus side the 8kg top load washer I brought at the same time is great .
Follow-up · It still takes way longer to dry clothes than my old f&p dryer but after finding out how to turn led the right way round I am reasonable happy with it over all

More Options for Delicate Items – Our previous dryer was also a Fisher & Paykel, as is our Washing Machine and 3 Fridges!! The brand is therefore well known to us for its quality & reliability. In choosing this model we looked at the new technology available but decided that our usage is modest and did not warrant the top end options. This dryer has many more settings which allow… Read more
for the amount of heat to be accurately applied as well as the "Sensing" capability which assists greatly with how long it runs. We use it always for towels, which come out much softer than sun drying. Lately, I have been experimenting with other clothing and am pleased to say that the shrinkage, which used to be a major problem in the older dryers, is not an issue with this model. I have used the Dryer for items which say "Do Not Tumble Dry" and while I am not recommending this, I do feel that maybe the clothing manufacturers have not kept up with the advances in dryer technology. I fully recommend this product as I do with all F & P products we have used over the years.
It Has Been a Good Dryer – We're the kind of household that just chucks whatever was in the washer into the dryer. While we should probably sort our fabrics etc.. we're just disorganised. The sensing mode and heat level adjustment really help to minimise damage to our clothes from over drying. Our most frequently used mode would be Everyday on Medium heat followed by Time… Read more
Dry.
In the three years we have owned this dryer it hasn't let us down. It has the typical issues that can be expected of a vented dryer e.g. our wall would become sopping wet and the potential to shrink items. With care and attention these can be mitigated like on most vented dryers.
Three years on we've now sold this dryer onto another family and replaced it with a Fisher & Paykel Heat Pump Dryer. Not because this model was bad, just because of those aforementioned issues that vented dryers have and our continued habit of putting whatever come out of the washing machine in.
The bottomline is, if you want a decent quality, well designed and reliable vented dryer, then Fisher and Paykel is the brand to buy.
I believe this model has now been replaced by the F&P DE6060M2 - I can't tell the difference!
Mounting is terrible – F&P dryers used to use a wide metal bracket for a wall mount (see photo). The bracket was great as it didn't matter what the stud spacing was, you could easily mount the dryer without issue! This latest dryer uses a two piece mounting bracket (see photo) that needs to be 555mm apart. Pity if your stud spacing isn't 555mm apart (as mine weren't) as… Read more
you then need to spend half a day mounting an intermediate piece. :( A complete waste of my day. Thanks F&P.
The other incredible oversight by F&P is why they didn't just include two mounting slits in their newer dryers??? This way new dryers could be mounted on older brackets like the wide metal bracket that was already on my wall. Overall I truly think F&P have lost the plot when it comes to modern appliance design. Do any of their designers actually mount these items themselves? Perhaps senior management could have the designers try out their designs in someone's home. If they can't easily mount the unit themselves then they get another product designer.

Great product – Bought this when our old dryer failed, with 4 kids it’s going constantly and performs as expected, great quality product from Fisher and Paykal, would purchase future products from this manufacturer Show details
Lasted 5 years without a problem – Bought new from the good guys in 2017 and it has gone through 3 house moves and has now stopped drying the clothes due to what I believe is the thermostat. Overall I’m surprised it’s lasted this long compared to how long appliances last these days so I thought I would leave a review. I haven’t had it serviced or anything since I got it and it… Read more
hasn’t malfunctioned in any way and I have used it constantly. I might just buy the same one again for my next dryer!
Really happy with my choice – Really happy with my purchase. Easy to mount, easy to use, perfect size in my small laundry just disappointed that being upside down the digital display is also upside down. Show details

Started out great – Started out well. Not too noisy and dried clothes well. Used a couple of times a week but started to put black marks on light coloured fabric. Now, it simply will not start. The electrical panel seems to have frozen. Show details
Keep looking at other dryers! – I have been using this machine for approx 6 weeks and already the Start/Pause buttons, which are the most used ones, are starting to wear off. I will have to put tape over them before they wear through. Also, the auto sensor program: you have to keep an eye on what you toss in. Some items are still damp, whilst others are bone dry. A learning… Read more
curve with that program. The timer program starts at 30 mins and goes up in 30 min increments to 2 hours 30. If you are using it for that long you have a serious problem! Overall I wouldnt recommend this particular machine and I went by the reviews on Appliances Online website, too! Bought to replace a reconditioned 34 year old dryer only problem was the door was cracked. Kinda miss it!
It is terrible for planning – The dryer goes in ONE direction for far too long. When washing sheets or similar, they end up balled and banging around. I have to unravel multiple times per cycle. If I am out, the sheets will need REdrying. There is no conventional timer setting like 120 or 60 etc. It's based on the level of dry - who thought there were more levels of dry than… Read more
just dry. Either way, I am unsure how it measures this and have no way to know how long it will take. I wish I bought a different machine.

Poor quality – My last F&P dryer went for more than 25yrs without a hitch. Finally broke down (starter capacitor) Bought new one which lasted 5 weeks before fan problem - rubbing on housing & min. 10 days for repair tech to come look at it. PP service. Don’t make ‘‘em like they used to. Show details
Buttons on clothes, Cords get caught between dryer plastic wall edging and drum – Small buttons on shirts, cord on shorts get caught between drum edge and plastic trim on dryer wall. Only way to remove is to break them off/cut. Leaving loose pieces behind drum. Small items, ie socks, cloths etc go into lint filter and need rewashing as they are fluffy. Cannot change setting once dryer has started ie. temp. Need to power off and… Read more
start again. I wish I had not upgraded my old F & P. Old model built differently internally and way better. If only I could return it and get my old dryer back.
Disappointing – Shortly after installation in Feb 21 the dryer started to vibrate bady when hot. I booked a service online as the phone wait time was an hour. However I never hear back. So eventually got through on phone, they booked a service for 4 weeks later! The service guys were on time and friendly, said there was an issue with some type of 'packing' around… Read more
the motor which was a known issue. They 'repacked' however the vibration came back in a day or so. I completed a survey on the repair to say the fault had returned but never heard any further. I've logged another service request online as phone has a 50 minute wait. I'll be interested to see if I hear from them. The current quality of Fisher & Paykel, now that it is Haier, is nothing like the quality we used to know.
Damages clothes – Leaves black marks on the clothes and damages them which is a repetitive issue. F&P replaced original dryer with new dryer same model, a year later same problem. Have discovered whole threads complaining about this. Manufacturers fault that reveals itself years later. Do not buy, it has ruined our clothes.
Do not buy! – Dryer rolls sheets in a tight ball which prevents it to dry and it comes out very creased! Same with clothes, bought it for the wrinkle free function but it does the opposite! Show details
Great products – After 13 years two loads a day every day my old Fisher & Paykel dryer died going to miss the beast never let me down that was until I bought the new one today love it hope I can get the same life out of it as I did the old one great products always my first choice. Show details
Most disappointed this dryer – Fine with small items, but sheets spin into a ball so have to keep constantly pause dryer to sort this out and only 1 sheet can be dried at a time. Also this dryer isn't very efficient at drying. I have never written a review before, but this is done out of frustration and to warn anyone considering Fisher Paykel to look elsewhere. Show details
does not dry sheets or clothes – spins the items in all one direction so sheets just spin into a ball and it beeps to say it is finished to find the items still saturated. This happens repeatedly. doesn't even dry clothes properly. Had another brand machine for a similar price for years but went with this for the F&P name. sorry i did. not a good machine compared to others in the… Read more
price range on the market. would not recommend at all. also pits lint out everywhere even when the lint filter has been emptied.
Useless dryer! – My clothes dry quicker on the line, in winter. It’s easy to use and nice and quiet, but it takes 3-4 hours to dry a load of washing! I thought it was broken when I first tried it so got the service team to come check it for a fault. Apparently it’s working as it should be. To say I’m unimpressed is an understatement. Show details

Good simple dryer – This drier replaced my old F & K of about 15yrs old which still performed ok but had issues with the paint work which had peeled off due to the heat in one area. This new one looks impressive and operates quieter than my old one. It's still easy to clean the filter & has simple operating dials. I hope the paintwork lasts.
It makes our life easy! – We as couple just love this dryer. It dry our clothes so fast and perfectly specially sensitive fabric with perfect condition. The consumption of electricity as rating is not that good but rest best.
Useless and not fit for purpose – Had a Fisher & Paykel 4.5kg for many years worked till it wore out This new unit DE4560M1 is useless. 1- The small items like hankies etc get caught in filter due to the very very poor design 2 - If you want to mount off floor the bracket system is such that you can not. The bracket system and hole alignment in rear only allow upside down high… Read more
wall mount. 3- The old 4.5Kg allowed the user to select amount of drying, this is now found only on larger KG models. Summary - would never recommend, if I had kept box it would have been sent back.
Badly designed – I previously had a Fisher and Paykel dryer which was great. When it died I was unable to get it repaired because spare parts were no longer available. I got this dryer because I had been so happy with the last one. The new one is a piece of rubbish in comparison. The settings are not very useful because you cant set the dryer for either the… Read more
time or the dampness level you want. Additionally small items like handkerchiefs get sucked into the filter and block it.
Can't complain, does what it says, no issues – We bought a Fisher & Paykel dryer after having such a good experience with a F&P washing machine, and have not had any issues whatsoever. Hard to say that it's "great" because it's really just a dryer, but as far as dryer's go, I guess it's awesome. Auto sensing is fantastic, just put clothes and push ON and not have to worry about anything until… Read more
it turns itself off. The only slightly annoying thing is that socks (or other small items) sometimes get caught in the lint filter and then come out full of fluff - would've been an easy fix with an extra plastic arm preventing this from happening. Otherwise, it's great.
Great Clothes Dryer – This clothes dryer is easy to use and sensors the clothes to adjust drying times to suit. Able to hang on the wall and vent either front or rear using a panel.
Best dryer I have ever owned – Ab fab dryer, automatically switches of when it sensors the clothes are dry, it's fast efficient and quiet. I must admit I bought it because it was the biggest capacity dryer on the floor, without buying a massive, expensive fancy dryer with more dodads and dohickeys than this old lady wanted or needed, but I am extremely happy with it. Well done F & P, an awesome product @ a good price. Show details
Good and reliable – Good and reliable dryer, it has auto-sensing which stops automatically to prevent my clothes from shrinking and stuffs. The noise level is pretty low and it doesn't produce that much water vapor, so it doesn't make the room very damp.
Starts of amazing dies to soon – The fisher & paykel dryer is an amazing dryer its quiet and dries my clothing sheets and blanckets on 1 cycle. No need to iron my delicate clothing as it comes out perfectly straight. Show details
this perfect cant live with out – had dryer just over a 1year now very easy to operate and has,nt missed a beat does the towells perfect dont use much of the settings just leave on auto Show details
Excellent Machine, can't fault – Used for all types of washing, especially over the Winter months when outside drying is not possible. Certainly handles heavy loads up to 6Kg wet weight with ease. Variable drying modes are very useful, enabling drying of heavy duty to delicate items successfully. Ease of cleaning of lint filter a good feature. Make sure you have good ventilation… Read more
in laundry if drying heavily wet loads, as moisture accumulates quickly unless you have the unit vented to outside.
Great Dryer – I brought this as I got a great deal, as this was a slight dent on top of the machine. I saved $150.00 by this slight mark. The machine is excellant and drys my sheets well. The settings are so easy to use. I used mine on a very humid Brisbane morning and it dried the sheets well. I always clean the front lint filter after each dry. I actually… Read more
wash mine and leave it to dry. I also clean inside the door and the drum after each load. I have had an older F@P for years and they just keep going. Also this model dosnt overheat as well, so my small laundry dosnt get very hot from the dryer. This co knows how to make dryers.
Great dryer! – Purchased this March 2018 as the Bosch dryer I had for 2 years stopped heating and wasn't energy efficient with the crease option making it turn every few minutes. It also didn't dry my clothes/towels. This F & P dryer is fantastic in comparison. It dries everything regardless of the load size and is simple to use. I wouldn't be without it even though I usually only use it once a week for towels. Show details
