Garmin Instinct

Was a good watch but the battery died and now can't be replaced. You'd think for the huge price of these watches you'd get more than a few years of usage. I wont be buying another one

The Garmin Instinct range is by far the best of all the watches. I've owned alot of other Garmin models and find they just don't last (I use them for triathlons). The Instinct range is very hard wearing. Don't pay extra for Solar though, that's a waste. Was good, right up to when it just failed – I suggest you google Garmin shutting off problems before you consider this product. They work for about a year to 18 months then just start to randomly shut down when exercising. Occasionally at first, then all the time. no effect at all. There are pages and pages of people with the same problem, all getting nowhere with Garmin, so please for your own sake, just don’t buy. You will be happy for about a year if you are lucky.

Cracked Glass – Bought new from Myers - less than 4 months old, I notice a couple of days ago that the screen has a vertical crack running top to bottom, have emailed Garmin support - no reply. It has taken over my training stats and wont acknowledge my Garmin 520 rides – In the last 3 weeks this machine has decided that I have a high aerobic shortage because the training log has not credited me with any bike rides (totaling 731 klm in this period) I touched no settings to make this happen, you tube videos say there will be menus, there are not. My wearable is now my primary tracker and there seams to be nothing I can do about it. Show details

overly complicated crap – This watch has been out for a while now. I got mine as a gift. I've had it for 3 years now and have been constantly frustrated using it for anything other than the basic function. AVOID this watch like the plague. For the money anything else will be better. OMG – Never had a smart watch before and im staggered by my reluctance to not buy sooner. Wont use all features , im a mobility challenged 55 yr old male who cant run or climb mountains, but there are many many features i will love. Got the Tundra colour and think ill get the black band, not that i dont like its colour, its a cheap option to change look. Recommend to all, just what will they think of next. Good for 6 to 12 months – Lasted better then the last one and battery life is much better, but if use Oxygen sensor the light gets very annoying very quickly at night time , now I’ve noticed in the last few days the pulse sensor is so in accurate it’s just useless to me . Hard to use and as this my second Garmin in less then 2 years at 600 to 1200 a pop cant see The positives.

Bit of a rip off – It's OK, heart rate isn't accurate during activities. And doesn't read hr during swimming despite bragging it is super water proof. Doesnt have pulse ox or advance sleep monitoring which is available on their cheaper, less technical watches. There is no reason not to include it, it obviously has the technology, the only reason I can think they didn't include it is to force you to upgrade to one 130% the price, just a dicky move by garmin. Show details

quickly, looks like im expected to be some expert prior to setting watch, videos no help, my watch functions are different to video does complete opossite to video most of the time nothing happens cant scroll up or down, creating stress, anyway looks like my son has scored a $400, watch, dont buy this watch too many features too compilcated to operate.

GPS is horrendous – I bought this watch about a couple of months back and really tried to love it. I primarily use it for cycling and integrate it with Strava. But the results I am getting are way different from what I get if I use Strava to record my activity. highway and I think this is what is messing up with the tracking. I would not mind if the discrepancy is less than 1km, but for a 40km ride, I get a 50-55km result in this Garmin device. I have checked different solutions in their forum and it seems this is a known issue for more than a year now, with no clear solution. They suggest a lot of things, which I have done like GPS soaking, changing the GPS settings, etc. But I have tried all this without no good outcome.

I would suggest that if you are looking into getting this to track your rides, make sure that you do your research first.

Too bad because I really like the look and the fit, but function is more important than aesthetics.

Great watch – I previously had the Samsung s3 which was good but the battery life was pathetic. by Garmin on the screen is awesome. You can point the watch to any light source and you can easily read the info on the screen. I think it reflects light which makes the stuff on the screen visible and legible. It does however have a backlight function. I bought a Garmin vivo active 4 but I was quite disappointed with it.

This is a good affordable watch – I bought a Garmin Instinct mainly because I wanted to keep track of my heart rate post surgery. Apart from that, the list of features it has, is astounding! The watch is okay but still on the fence – Previous to this watch I had the Garmin Vivoactive HR. It was promoted as 5 ATM, meaning that it should have been fine going swimming or snorkelling in shallow waters. it is one of the small number of brands which connects to certain apps like strava. It doesn't have touchscreen like the vivoactive HR but setting the alarm or changing the layout of the screen are easy to work out.

extremely good for a smart watch. I went 10 days, no GPS use and only lost 2 bars of battery. I think that is pretty good. GPS usage can drain it with prolonged use, to be expected I guess. I've used the GPS for walking and bike rides and found it extremely accurate when synced with my phone to review where I've been.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase. Paid $299 at HN and don't feel disappointed i didn't by the Fenix 5x that was on special for $550. Having owned the instinct, it more than surpasses the features I need and buying the Fenix would have been a waste for me.

Rugged watch – Had a Vivoactive HR prior to this and was very disappointed. This on the other hand is a major step up. longer than previous watch can last up to 5 days easily without a charge, but that is all dependent on how much the activities are used.

Would definitely recommend this watch and if this ever did break down on me I would go out and purchase another.
