GWM Cannon Alpha Ultra PHEV

I bought this Ute from Suttons churlora in June 2025 for 44990 I thought wow so much inside for a great price well the buying experience from Suttons was absolutely terrible I would not recommend this car dealership to anyone as for the Ute it’s very nice inside and you get a lot of tech and comfort for a low price but what GWM forgot to mention is the constant DPF burns up to 6 per tank if I knew it was going to be like this I would have bought a different Ute because this is totally unacceptable GWM you should be ashamed of yourself so people think twice before you buy pay a bit extra and get a Ute that doesn’t do thes constant DPF burns
So far, so good! Duttons GWM were amazing to deal with. The ute is very very good. There are some beeps and bongs but that is a minor inconvenience when you compare the savings in fuel. I filled up last week, kept it in EV for the school runs and short trips. Tested it all the way down the freeway in EV mode and it got me from the Hills to Highbury and Newton in peak hour on a single charge. $16 to recharge off-peak, $22 during peak. The intelligent mode is handy.
The ride itself is quiet, and smooth. You can tell Rob Trubiani and his team have made an instant impact. I'm on the tools sometimes as a fridgie but I don't need to haul as much as I used to and I don't tow a caravan or boat - so payload isn't an issue.
The off-road capability is very much in line with the established brands - 800mm wading depth, good approach and departure angles without the tow ball kit. It'll get a proper workout soon and I'll amend to reflect that.
All in all, no real issues yet. My wife and kids love the ute and it's easy to see why. I was opposed to Chinese made utes but in this case I will happily eat my words.
*UPDATE*
I've taken the Cannon Alpha PHEV from my home in the Adelaide Hills to Carrickalinga - a 1hr and 10min drive on undulating roads, steep climbs and descents, long straightaways and tight corners - the ride was sublime and the real world fuel economy for this kind of country expedition saw 4.8L per 100km. I also traversed from Carrickalinga to Second Valley and Carrickalinga to Rapid Bay and back and the economy improved to 3.8L per 100km. Off-road capability update to come soon.
Purchased in at GWM Dealers.

Hi everyone, I’m posting this to see if anyone else with a 2025 GWM Cannon Alpha Ultra PHEV (or similar models) has experienced these faults, and to share my ongoing issue for awareness. I’ve filed with QCAT after 142 days of delays and no resolution from GWM Maroochydore/Australia—hoping to connect with others for potential group action or ACCC escalation. My Timeline (Key Points): • Purchased 10 Jun 2025 from GWM Maroochydore ($66,499.99 inc on-roads). • Faults started 2–5 Jul 2025: Infotainment (audio loss/fade-out, auto channel change, poor reception, pauses after calls). Reported multiple times—no initial response. • 11 & 15 Sep 2025: 2 failed software updates at dealership—faults not fixed. • 14 Oct 2025 (4:27 PM): First safety fault—EV mode stationary at intersection (Crossover & Wises Rd, Maroochydore), auto park brake ON, switched to HEV/manual gear (collision risk). • 16–20 Oct 2025: GWM admitted “known concern, no current fix” + “two other buy-backs” for same issues. Escalated to China. • 7 Nov 2025: Formal rejection under ACL s 259 (major failure). • 10 Nov 2025 (3:43 PM): Second EV/HEV fault—stationary, same switch/park brake issue. • GWM’s responses: Misrepresent faults as “radio clarity” (ignores safety); no disclosure of when “known concern” first identified (potential ACL s 18 breach). Total delay: 142 days from first report. GWM permitted “continue driving” ($0 deduction ACL s 261). OFT mediation (C-2025-58207) closed due to GWM’s inspection demands. Filed QCAT Form 59 on 25 Nov 2025 for refund or replacement. Facebook Confirmation: Posted in GWM Alpha Cannon Owners Group—another owner reports same EV/HEV fault twice (screenshot attached). Has anyone else had EV/HEV switches, park brake issues, or infotainment faults? Or dealt with GWM delays/buy-backs? Seeking similar stories for ACCC/QCAT. DM or comment. Thanks!
