Hilo Band

I’m managing hypertension and have been on a 18 month weight loss journey, my BP is now in the ideal range so my GP is titrating my BP meds lowe, so I am using Hilo to help monitor blood pressure while my GP and I adjust my medication. Because I’m also on a 3000–4000 KJ daily deficit as part of my required weight loss after Afib, I rely on continuous readings to understand dizziness, blood pressure swings, and how my body reacts day‑to‑day.

When Hilo is recording properly, it’s incredibly helpful. The insights are able to give me and my GP a clearer picture of what’s happening around episodes of dizziness or instability. But I’ve had quite a few dropouts, missed readings, gaps in the timeline, or periods where the device doesn’t sync. Those gaps make it hard to understand what was happening at the exact moments I needed the data most.

I’m still hopeful because the potential is huge. I just want to share my experience so others in similar situations know that while Hilo can be very useful, continuity of data is really important if you’re relying on it during medication changes or weight‑loss‑related BP fluctuations.

I've changed my review because I find this app very useful in monitoring 'trends' of blood pressure. It took me a few months to realize this. For example say your normal bp is 120/70 and for a few days not just one off you see it go up to 160/85 then you would need to see your dr. Or if it dropped over a few days to 90/60 also. So the beauty of this application is not that you get one time accurate checks but you get 'trends' so you can keep an eye on your lifestyle and diet as well as if you need to report trend changes to your gp. What you're after with this band is a stable bp and to see that it's not jumping around too much which this band performs admirably. You might not get a 100% accurate reading but close and the fact you can monitor 'trends' is valuable information for your well being.

As a retired nurse needing frequent blood pressure (bp) monitoring night and day, this product has been wonderful for me. The readings are accurate as it is calibrated with an upper arm device monthly, and it can cope with the wide variations in my bp. Yes, to access all data any time you need to subscribe, but it is $100/year, less than two dollars a week, which also gives access to updates. This is a Swiss company constantly researching and improving its product. Also it is FDA approved, which shows its quality. The access to tech support was a bit difficult, but once established was very helpful. Battery life is good, around five days; the band is very light and comfortable to wear. The exercise and sleep monitors don't really work, but I did not buy it for that. Price is high, but that reflects the quality and accuracy. An excellent product for bp monitoring.

Portia 7m Since writing this review Hilo has upgraded the sleep and exercise functions, which now seem to be quite accurate, making the product even more worth the price. Upon checking it seems the $100 was US currency – cost in AU dollars is $199.99, still a small price to pay for the detailed information and frequent upgrades and improvements.

DON'T BOTHER UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO SUBSCRIBE. My Son bought me this as a present, I received the HiLo band and was quite pleased with the results, and there were many. I was given the device to be able to check my blood pressure at anytime. Well the first month was really good. Unfortunately I was NOT told that if you aren't going to subscribe to HiLo then it is a piece of plastic sitting around and only 3 times a month can you test your blood pressure. If I had been told this, I would not have wanted the Hilo Band. Please be warned.
