You get what you pay for – For a cheaper model, it's lasted almost 6 years. I agree that it's hard to start once it's been going for awhile but for me, that's only been in the last year or so. I have a decent sized yard with rocks, garden borders, difficult areas and bits that seem to grow crazy fast and big and it does it all..... Until it won't start again. Good unit if you can start it. Extremely hard/difficult to restart when hot – Most times I have to wait for the next day to get it started when hot or wait for a few hours after using the unit. When it gets going it works well but when you run out of cutting cord it's nearly impossible to start it again as the cord does not last very long Show details

Rating close to 3.5 had it not been for the three breakdowns of curved shaft attachment – Over the last seven years, I have been an owner of four Homelite curved shaft line trimmers. stopped spinning after 18 months

Second one: head stopped spinning after 14 months

Third one: it happened just one day short of first year warranty and it was replaced today, but the original model did not exist any longer and was replaced by an upgraded model with the same name at extra cost of $30.00

Reasons why I gave overall rating of 3:

a) Three out of four units had problems with curved shaft attachment where head stopped spinning.

b) Warranty dropped from original two-years to one-year. In addition: since original one was $119.00 and new one $149.00, it means the price went up by 25%.

c) I would have been happy to replace the curved shaft attachment in all three cases (because the petrol engine (motor) was perfectly operational) had such option existed through Bunnings.

It is pity I had to replace the whole units, because petrol engines were still working fine and it was unnecessary to create so much pollution of the planet!

Today, when I went to Bunnings at Artarmon, the manager confirmed that they had to deal with problems with curved shaft attachments several times.

d) When the unit works, I never had problems to start it.

e) Generated noise level is maybe a little bit higher than I would have liked.

engine failure – not a bad unit for the price, however motor has given up the ghost as repairer said it has a scored barrel and not worth repairing ,obviously i did not have the mix right as machine specs say 40:1 ratio but ill be increasing the oil / petrol ratio . ill be buying another unit, as i have the expand-it attachments as well that fit to it.if it dies… Read more

again ill be changing brands. Only issue i have is the cord arrangement , very annoying setup and i much prefer the bump head system that was on the ST155 homelite model. continually need to replace line as they don't like hard surfaces like path edges etc.

Line issues, don't buy! – The line cut at the spool exit during operation 5 or 6 times during 10 minutes of operation. I used a combination of the supplied line and after market line, and both cut prematurely numerous times during operation. You spend more time replacing the line than you do using it. Terrible. It's cheap, but it's not worth paying anything if it doesn't operate to a reasonable expectation. Spend some more and buy something half decent.

Terrible. do not waste your money – Bought it today, took forever to finally get it going, even though I followed the instructions to a T. cord broke quite often so I had to replace it twice within 5 mins. had a break of a few hours after the third cord breakage. Now it completely refuses to start, so I paid $109 from bunnings for 5 mins of work. Do not waste your money. Show details
