TERRIBLE battery life! – Anyone considering this purchase needs to know how TERRIBLE the battery life is! I tested every line trimmer I could before deciding on the Aspire, which had by all accounts, good reviews. I wanted something lightweight and with decent battery life. I made sure to fully charge the battery before my first use, but I was very confused when it died after a short time (about 20mins I thought). I thought maybe I hadn't actually charged it all the way, so charged it fully again and used it for a second time while timing it on my phone. It lasted just over 16 minutes before running out! I jumped on live chat with Husqvarna customer service and was told the battery life was meant to be 25mins (?! still poor in my opinion), but depended on many factors such as what type of line is used—I am using all the components as they came out of the box. It looks like I will now have to invest in a second, very expensive battery just to get through trimming around portions of my tiny 350sqm garden! I am NOT happy with my purchase at all!

Further to the above, while I am waiting for any response from customer service who have so far not responded to my live chat request and ignored several emails, I decided to do an air test to see if the battery life was actually their claimed 25mins. The result: 24mins 40secs trimming air, shame on you Husqvarna!!!

Excellent performance and value for money – I needed to replace a 17yo petrol trimmer/brush cutter, but on a limited budget and an eye on environmental impacts. After a detailed analysis of lower cost options, I decided upon the Husqvarna Aspire 18V Kit with 2.5Ah battery & charger. This is a new product, with very few reviews (a couple in the UK), so I was taking a chance, basing my decision on specs alone. I have not been disappointed: the device is a reasonable weight (I’m elderly) and the adjustable length & handle position allow maintaining a good posture. Although not a brush cutter, the 2.4mm line (orange) and the high maximum rotation speed perform well on thicker & tougher stemmed (non-grass) foliage. Other similar products at this price point (and higher) use 2mm line (green) and slower rotation speeds, which is what led me to take a punt on the Husqvarna. The cutting width of 28cm is fine for my needs, i.e. going where the mower can’t, mainly edges. A half an hour of use consumed about half of the battery’s capacity.
