IKEA VÄRMDÖ Rocking Chair

Great chair, terrible quality! – I purchased this VÄRMDÖ Rocking chair a couple years ago under the impression that IKEA furniture was rigorously tested, of reasonable quality and most importantly to me, environmentally friendly. My opinion has completely changed due to one of the slats cracking and IKEA taking no responsibility or offering any kind of solution. I will start by saying I live by myself and this chair has barely been used as I prefer my lounge, so it only gets sat in when I have guests. I have recently had house guests, and when one of them sat in the chair, it cracked loudly and I discovered a crack in the middle of one of the seat slats. It looks like the slat in question has a big knot in the middle and I reckon this caused a weakness. It was actually a small person under which the slat cracked, so it was obviously faulty wood. I know IKEA furniture is not expensive furniture by any stretch of the imagination, but for the $129 price tag, I would expect a lightly used wooden chair to hold up much better than this! Shame on you IKEA!
