not resolved following the service. Have also had problems with the automatic buttonholes. A number of times it has stopped mid buttonhole, so I’ve given upon that function. It is a little too noisy compared to other machines. Won’t be buying another.
My passion was sewing until a new Janome killed it – My old 1955 Singer sewing machine works a billion times better than this Janome DC6050 I am used to just sitting at the desk for quick little sew as well as making my own tailored suites for years. Asked for help from Janome need to pay $2 to get the assistance that was ok but when I went to pay it was $55. Not happy Jam.....ome. My old, old Husqvarna, I could use any thread, any material from silk Georgette - leather everything in between, and any needle once set up at the beginning. Unfortunately, I wore that machine to death no chance of the Janome DC6050 getting worn out
Good when it works properly – Initially I loved this machine but lately have been having troubles with the buttonholes. It randomly stops after only a few stitches and I have to hold the lever down firmly before it will start again. Now it is just stopping completely. It also changes buttonhole sizes halfway through sewing so I have to stop, unpick and try again hoping it doesn’t wreck the fabric and my hard work. Show details
Janome DC6050 purchased 3 years ago – Love this machine. i have just started making bags and it has handled the cork and canvas. i have used this machine for quilting and general sewing and craft to use the different stitches. Great machine for travel classes. I have found this machine good value for money. This machine was purchased from a dealer who has provided instruction on use and advice when needed. Show details
Versatile – This is my 2nd machine. My first did the basics like buttons but I needed more features. I needed to sew heavy materials & more advanced stitches. This one has loads of features, does the basics well; but it requires you read the manual & the troubleshooting section if things aren't going as planned. only to find out I didn't understand what I required for that piece of specialised material and thread. For normal fabric it's a breeze. But I sew up to 3 layers deep of thick webbing with v69 upholstery thread, landscape fabric, flannelette, all of which are tricky. For thick materials I turn the knob by hand and use a 90-100 needle. It's amazing it can do all those things. If the thread tension isn't right it doesn't work, it will jam & make a big mess underneath, but maybe that's not unusual if the settings are wrong on any machine? My thinking about all these bad reviews is because the machine has a lot of features and there are lots of variables thus the user is responsible for compensating for the material and attachments and task they are achieving. But I'm rather new to sewing and I'm very practical in the way I use the machine. It doesn't have to look pretty, I just need the result to be strong. I've found cheap foot attachments from China including a darning foot for under $20. Some have only cost a few dollars. I'm quite happy.
I like it! – I really enjoy using this machine, I have had a few issues, but they are mostly due to me not knowing how to use it properly, with a little reading of the manual, it has worked out just fine. Standard accessories are • Zigzag Foot A • Overedge Foot C • Zipper Foot E • Satin Stitch Foot F • Blind Hemming Foot G • 1/4˝ Seam Foot O • Automatic Buttonhole Foot R • Stabilizer Plate for B/hole Ft I made a jacket with lining in a wool cashmere coat weight fabric with a polyester satin lining. This gave the machine a good workout. It handled the thick intersecting seams well and also the slippery satin lining. No hesitating or problems at all. I also have sewn and free motion quilted a small quilt after assembling it with quarter inch seams and some applique. All completed very well on the machine.
Things I like about the machine. It has the usual Janome problem free sewing experience. It comes with a good assortment of feet. It has the freearm, and all the stitches and their numbers right there on the faceplate. It is intuitive, strong and works right out of the box. It came with a sewing table and hard cover. I love the plain looks, the snips, the quietness of the motor.
Things I don't particularly like about the machine I don't care for the horizontal thread stand. The spool pin itself is not very long. It only just fits my Isacord thread cone with only a little room left for the spool pin. A longer thread cone would not stay on. The accessory thread spool is also horizontal. It comes with the machine, but I don't like horizontal feed! I use a separate vertical spool holder. The stitch plate is not pop off and has to be unscrewed. Easy enough to do, but I am spoiled with my much larger (and more expensive) embroidery machine.
Other than these things, I really like my machine. There is a lot to like. Fifty nice stitches and 3 types of buttonholes. Just enough for travel needs. The machine is very intuitive and it is easy to change stitches and find your way around.
My dealer (I ordered the Janome online from a bricks and mortar store) always includes an extra assortment of feet (9 in this case, plus a walking foot) in addition to the ones which come with the machine, so I have plenty. This is a 7mm wide, low shank machine. I did buy a low shank free motion embroidery foot, so now I have all the feet I could possibly need.
It is a great machine. Light and portable, but solid enough to cope with anything you wish to sew. It does everything I want. I am very satisfied.
Very disappointing – I bought this machine for the fancy stitches but they are so tiny it is hard to even see what they should be. My machine stops at times with an error code and I have to wait for it to settle before I can start sewing again. about 1/2 to 1 inch long. It builds up dust in the bobbin area very quickly as well. It's a pity as I love the needle threader which works very well and also the spring foot. Am going to sell it and get something different.
Nice machine when it works – Purchased the machine July last year. It is a nice looking machine with a good accessories pack included in the price and great features. middle of a seem, give an error code that the manual says to return the machine to the manufacturer for repair, skips multiple stitches while top stitching and when you press the stop button you don't know when it will stop, could be immediately or after up to a dozen stitches. Turning the machine off and then on seems to reset the computer until the next problem. The machine has been returned to Janome twice since bought who can't seem to find a fault with it. The first return about 6 weeks after purchasing it was gone for about 10 weeks. The second return after the error code was about 8 weeks after it came back it was gone for a further 8 weeks. I had high hopes for this machine as it is a well featured machine. I don't know if I just have a lemon that Janome should be replacing or not. Very disappointed with the product I have received.
Thought this was an upgrade...not – I thought I was upgrading from the 6260 quilters choice as it has a thread cutter and supposedly can handle thick fabrics. Don’t buy it, you will be disappointed. It is noisy and has trouble with fine fabrics, and thick and stretch is a nightmare to do. I would happily take it back. I have had it 3 weeks and hate it, thinking of selling and getting an older and more reliable machine, biggest mistake ever. I don’t even want to sew anymore Show details
