A forgiving machine – I bought this machine, my first sewing machine, after doing a sewing class that I enjoyed, and decided I wanted to explore further as a hobby. I wanted a machine above the basic / introduction level - as I assumed I would be enjoying this as a hobby, and didn't want to spend money on a basic machine, then have to spend more on another machine with more features down the track. This machine has not let me down.

I primarily sew with woven cottons, and was fortunate to add an overlocker to my hobby room, so am able to use that for knits now. But this DM7200 just keeps going and going. I prefer to use the press buttons on the machine for the stop / start (rather than the pedal - I know, that seems odd to most others I mention this to), but I don't sew particularly fast most the time (unless its a long seam or a dress hem!)

I've not (yet) tackled the button hole feature - they still spook me a bit, but I've installed countless invisible zippers into garments with next to no issue.

I particularly like the needle thread assist feature - that makes changing thread much easier.

Perhaps though, buying this model was not necessary - I have barely used the table that came with it, nor have I used most the feet, though the hardcover is often used when the machine is not in use (I just wish they made a hard cover for my overlocker too). But I certainly don't regret purchasing this machine, and recommend it to others, if they ask which one I use.

Purchased in for $899.

New updated machine excellant - except – this machine has so many features and sews quietly and easily....but I do not like that it only has a horizontal spool winder (Including the second one) and is too short to take all brands of cotton. so strange! I have always used one brand of good quality cotton, that wont fit properly, and I certainly cant wind on the bobbin. That is all that I have and now have to buy a different brand just so that I can fill the bobbin. It is an expensive oversight for me and such a waste of good cotton...Otherwise I love the machine.

Great machine but lacks one vital feature – This is a great machine in terms of sewing/stitch selection and general ease of use. Everything about it is fantastic.....except when you need to put a different foot shaft on. The side plate doesn’t open which leaves you with a very restricted area to remove and replace the needle shaft. Trying to change to a walking foot or free sewing foot is incredibly fiddley. I have small hands and excellent dexterity and it took me so long to screw the walking foot on as access to the screw is so restricted! Changing regular feet is quick and simple but when you need the feet that to attach to the needle shaft it’s a whole different thing! I also think the lever for lowering and raising the foot is in the worst position possible. As a right handed, I’m holding fabric in place with that hand yet the lever is to the rear right. Very awkward indeed. I originally was going to buy the Sewist 780DC but changed to this because of the stitches and table for the same money. In hindsight, I would buy the 780 or the QDC model above this one, purely because of the side face not opening. Otherwise, the machine and it’s multitude of stitches is fantastic!
