 AI reviews summary

Consumer feedback for Kayo Sports is overwhelmingly negative, with users reporting a significant decline in service quality following recent app updates. Major grievances include persistent technical failures such as buffering, crashing, and poor resolution, alongside sharp price increases and an intrusive advertising model. Many subscribers feel "held to ransom" due to the platform's exclusive sports rights, expressing deep frustration with a user interface and customer support system they describe as non-functional.

Pros
Broad Sports Content: The platform remains the primary destination for comprehensive coverage of AFL, NRL, F1, and Cricket in Australia.
Kayo Minis and Features: When functioning correctly, features like condensed "Mini" replays and "No Spoilers" mode are valued for time-saving and convenience.
Cons
Technical Instability: Frequent buffering, "green wheel" loading screens, and app crashes occur across multiple devices (Smart TVs, PC, and mobile), even with high-speed internet connections.
Poor User Interface: Recent updates have introduced a clunky navigation system, removed useful features like "Key Moments," and made basic functions like fast-forwarding or pausing difficult to use.
Aggressive Monetisation: Recurring complaints highlight steep price hikes (reaching $46/month for premium) combined with an increase in advertisements, even during live play and on pause screens.
Abysmal Customer Support: Users report extreme difficulty in contacting the company, citing a reliance on unhelpful AI chatbots and a lack of phone support, particularly regarding billing errors and cancellation difficulties.
Verdict

Kayo Sports is currently viewed by many users as an unreliable and overpriced service that relies on its market monopoly rather than product quality. While it is the only viable option for many live sports, the high frequency of technical glitches and poor customer service makes it difficult to recommend for a premium-priced streaming experience.

Subscribed to Kayo on 2/2/26 and paid for 12 months subscription. On 2/8/26, 6 months later they have automatically charged my credit card for another 12 month subscription. Unable to get a response from Kayo why this has occurred. Can cancel the credit card charge on 2/8/26 but I think Kayo will then cancel my subscription, which means I paid for… Read more

12 months and only got 6 months service. No way to contact Kayo. No phone number available. Web chat is only option and after being connected with a customer service officer and explaining situation you get no further response. Don't use this service.

The signup for this subscription must be the worst software ever written. So long as you let your subscription renew there is no problem BUT if you want to resubscribe an expired login - Good Luck! Trying to contact CHAT Support is also a complete waste if time as they just iterate predetermined scrips that are worse than useless. Considering the… Read more

money involved in this Sports Subscription the subscription process is complete RUBBISH. Every time I deal with this product I waste hours to no avail. You only have to look at the Review Rating to realize how many people have similar problems, yet they do nothing to rectify these problems.

Overpriced, Glitchy, and Anti-Consumer: The Decline of Kayo Sports. Subscribing to Kayo Sports has become an exercise in sheer frustration. What was once a decent streaming app has devolved into an overpriced, broken mess that treats paying subscribers like criminals on their own living room TVs. Price Gouging: Charging up to $45.99/month for… Read more

Premium while service quality plummets is unacceptable. We are paying significantly more for a product that performs demonstrably worse than it did years ago. Intrusive Verification: Sitting down on the couch to watch a game now means getting up, grabbing a phone, and jumping through forced location/2FA verification codes just to prove it’s me using my own home Wi-Fi. Unusable Timeline & Scrubbing: Basic playback features are completely broken. The scrubber constantly flips its reference point mid-action between "time behind live" and "elapsed game time," making it virtually impossible to accurately fast-forward 10 minutes without spoiling the score or jumping to live. Monopoly Indifference: Kayo knows Australian sports fans have no legal alternative for AFL, NRL, F1, and Cricket. Instead of fixing core software bugs, they cut app maintenance costs, push forced verification, and pocket the price hikes. Do not subscribe unless you absolutely have to.

At times it is impossible to watch live, continuous stopping. I've been down the road of complaining many times with no significant difference

When you try to fast forward, the app comes up with ridiculous ads, making it impossible to fast forward. I already pay $46 a month for limited sports and a poorly designed app. Why am I now getting brutalised with more ads at the loss of user experience!?

The quality particularly on replays is not worth watching, completely pixelled out. This is on NBN and at 500mps and 50upload

Without a doubt the worst streaming service that I have ever encountered. Constantly freezing and dropping out. Just because I’m only paying for a basic service doesn’t mean I should have to put up with this crappie experience. Shame on you Kayo.

Rating: -10/10 (yes, that's a negative 10) – Kayo - The Sports Streaming Service That's a Total Knockout (of your sanity) I've seen better-designed websites on a fridge, and I've experienced less lag on a 56k modem. Kayo, the sports streaming service that promises to deliver all the action, but instead delivers a masterclass in frustration. Imagine paying top dollar for a service that… Read more

freezes more often than a cryogenics lab. You'll be lucky if you get to watch an entire match without the screen turning into a still image, taunting you with its unresponsiveness. It's like they took all the excitement of live sports and replaced it with the thrill of watching paint dry.

And don't even get me started on the buffering wheel of doom. It's like they're trying to hypnotize you into submission, "You will wait, you will wait, you will wait..." No, Kayo, I won't wait! I'll go watch the game at my mate's place, at least his TV doesn't think it's a Commodore 64.

But hey, who needs a smooth streaming experience when you can pay top dollar for the privilege of shouting at your screen in frustration? It's like they're charging us per grey hair.

To the developers at Kayo, I say: get your act together, or get out of the game. We're not paying for a service that's more unreliable than a weather forecast.

In conclusion, Kayo is the sports streaming equivalent of a participation trophy - it shows up, but that's about it. Sort it out, Kayo, or we'll be forced to find our sports fix elsewhere.

P.S. If anyone from Kayo is reading this, please, for the love of all things good, optimize your service. My blood pressure (and my sanity) depend on it.

This app is the most annoying app I have ever come across. Every time we want to open the app on the TV it requires a QR code to be scanned on my phone. Sometimes I can get in and sometimes I can’t. Twice we have spent long periods of time with the tec people at Kayo and they have been unable to fix the problem. Don’t waste your money on this app.

Absolute joke of an app . Poor layout , poor workflow , buffering and now to top it off we have been blocked from watching it as apparently now the biggest mining town in NW Qld is too remote all whilst our internet is delivered from space .

Appalling F1 coverage. I have gone back to Foxtel to compare at the same time so I can be sure. Kayo have the audio of a commentator either in pit lane or on the track somewhere but you can’t see them and just get the Footage of the cars on the… Read more

track. Foxtel, at exactly the same time point, split the screen so you can see what the commentator is talking about. Kayo is infuriating. We have written to them and sent video proof but nothing has been done yet. The only advantage Kayo have is the F1 content is available much quicker. I would be watching Foxtel now but the session isn’t available yet so I’m suffering through Kayo and yelling at them when the commentator is talking about something I am unable to see.

Follow-up  · Kayo have not provided any solution or advice as to why this is happening. We have been offered a small discount for this months subscription fee but I’d far rather have the full coverage that Foxtel provide and I pay my subscription for.

Kayo is the worst app ever – Worst app ever. Cuts out all the time during a game and then you have to go back into the game stream and find where you were. And my personal fave is too many simultaneous streams error message. I only ever watch it on one device but this happens… Read more

all the time. Turn off the other devices (tv, tablet, phone) and then maybe you can watch footy. Often doesn't work though and can't watch anything. Don't waste your money on this rubbish. Please AFL, don't sell the broadcast rights to these amateurs in the future!

Follow-up  · Amazingly, the experience just seems to get worse. Now I have to scan a QR code everytime I want to watch a game of football. No other app does this on a regular basis. But it is the only streaming app for watching football... Please AFL, sell the rights to a few providers next time so the supporters don't get reamed by Murdoch monopoly!

Only wanted to compare with Foxtel Go. Kayo is much better. It should be included for all Foxtel subscribers. It is much better but not $30 per month on top better so I canned it. Also a tip: don't put spoilers in the app.

I trialed Kayo to watch the Masters, I thought the quality on standard was abysmal, but I was watching on my tablet, when I watched on TV the quality was actually quite acceptable, if it wasn't as expensive as what it is I might think about getting it, but I don't watch a great deal of sport, mainly golf so it wouldn't really be worth it for me. The content seems very good and it seems to work very well.

Absolutely awful streaming, I've paid for March and then it'll be goodbye forever. Kayo we're quite good last year but this year there are numerous streaming interruptions. Woeful. Fix it now or catch you later. Show reply

Follow-up  · It's much better now, rarely interrupted and very clear picture. Thank you

Follow-up  · Good, clear, value for money. The initial issues have been resolved, we're loving kayo again.

Really poor. Signed up for a month on their $1 for a month deal. I then cancelled a few days before the renew date, but for some reason it only cancelled ‘binge’. Kayo has introduced a hideous and bureaucratic new process for existing subscribers. It's a QR code which pops up on the screen whenever you log in to watch a game. Bar-none the lack of customer support makes kayo the worst platform on TV in my opinion. God forbid you should have an issue accessing your service because there is NO customer service other than a rubbish bottle. AND what's worse is that theres no ability to watch many of the games any other way......shame on the NRL....we are just being made to look like mugs

Only subscribed for AFL. I’ve rarely seen such consistency in a company receiving such poor reviews! I was going to comment about messaging once you cancel your subscription receiving offers of $1 if you renew. It appears it’s only for new subscribers, so very frustrating & a waste of time trying to take up the offer. Customer satisfaction is clearly not one of their performance metrics.

Worst service ever. They keep raising prices while the service declines. If there was another choice, I'd move in a heartbeat. The major sporting codes should be ashamed to be associated with it.

Truly the was $46 per month you can pay for sports streaming. The enshittification of this service continues, and the new advertising during match navigation is genuinely the most terrible user experience across any streaming platform I've ever used. where you’re navigating. If you’re watching a live event on delay, it’s incredibly easy to jump ahead accidentally and have the score or result spoiled. For a sports streaming service, that’s a fundamental failure.

You're paying $46 per month, which prerty much 2x what you pay for most other streaming services, and the experience is getting worse, and worse. Paying customers shouldn’t have their viewing experience interrupted by ads that actively make the product harder to use.
