flawed in its ergonomics design. Though the palm is laid flatter on the top of the mouse, the raised part under the thumb is the key flaw that forces the muscles behind the thumb & wrist unable to rest on the surface. This exacerbates the pain on the wrist as well as adding new strains & hence the pain to the thenar muscle group. After having used it for 6 mths, I need more therapies on my hand than ever. This unit may work for someone with a much bigger hand, but just not for mine.

notice that your hands are resting on their edge, rather than flat, which is how you hold a conventional mouse. The Egro mice keep your hand at a more natural angle, which reduces strain.

I have used a Logitech MX Ergo trackball mouse for the last 4 years & it stopped the pain completely. Just recently the rechargeable battery was needing recharging every few days (rather than every few months, previously) & the switches were registering multiple presses when pressed once. I thought of replacing the MX Ergo with another, but decided to try Logitech's other ergonomic mouse the, MX Vertical mouse. Surprisingly, I haven't had the slightest problem getting used to the MX vertical, despite the different shape & operation. The MX Vertical has a higher resolution, compared to the MX Ergo, so is much easier to get precise positioning, of the cursor, on the screen which is especially useful with 'Photoshop' & when navigating websites with very small icons etc. The shape of the mouse fits my medium sized hands very well, though the light weight makes the mouse feel a little 'flimsy', especially compared to the MX Ergo & other MX series mice. The weight doesn't affect the operation of the mouse, just my perception of it's solidity. I highly recommend the MX Vertical mouse, if you are suffering from RSI &/or Carpal Tunnel pain, when using a 'conventional' mouse.

Rubber perishes – Love the angle, buttons I find ever so slight resistant (but I think that about most mice), size a bit big for me so I gave it to my partner with bigger hands. He likes it. But he also doesn't clean it. Maybe from his skin oils the rubbery body is flaking off and has perished. Looks eek and will probably get sticky soon.

the use of so many mice over the years, have always preferred the Logitech brand for it’s quality and reliability (although, at a price of course).

APPEARANCE The Vertical Mouse has a most unusual appearance to it. It stands relatively tall and is held in a way not dissimilar to that of performing a handshake. It has the usual Logitech colour scheme of black at the base, the body being dark grey and a silver accent across the top. Left and right mouse buttons are on the right side and inclined at around 50 degrees. Between these two buttons is a rubberised scroll wheel. There is a customisable button on the top and two customisable buttons on the left inclined surface. This is definitely not a mouse for left handers as the hole body is sculptured to fit into the hand shake style grip I mentioned earlier. Underneath is an on/off button as well as a switch to allow you to pair with up to three different computers. Connection is by Bluetooth or you can attach a small USB dongle to one of the USB outlets on your computer and connect using that. There is a USB-C port on the front which allows charging with a suitable cable (included) and the mouse is able to be charged while being used. Battery is an inbuilt rechargeable that is not user serviceable.

FUNCTIONALITY This mouse takes a bit of getting used to. After a few days, I was on the verge of taking it back. It felt awkward to use and when moving my hand around the table I often hit the top of the mouse (it stands 80mm high above the table at its highest point) toppling it over. However, I persevered and now find it very comfortable (and rarely topple it). More importantly, I no longer appear to be suffering any pain from use of a mouse. Co-incidence...maybe but whatever the case, I don’t think I could return to a previous styled mouse.

WHAT COULD BE BETTER? It’s not perfect. As previously stated, this is not for “lefty’s”. In addition; 1) The scroll wheel is not customisable in the same way as other “high end” Logitech (and comparatively priced models) are. That is, you cannot remove the “ratchet clicks” and make it smooth running and consequently cannot “flick” the wheel to rapidly transverse a page. It does, however, have the ability to be customised to act as another customisable button when you push it down. 2) All button and function customisations must be done using the Logitech Options software downloaded from their web site. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it does allow you to store your customisations on line for easy backup or transference of settings if you use this device on another computer. It just means its one more piece of software on your computer which may be telegraphing data on your use back to Logitech? 3) Battery life is claimed by Logitech to be up to four months from a full charge. I thought I had mine fully charged but it only lasted just under two months on first use. However, it seems to be much better since then and their claims may be reasonable. What I didn’t like so much was despite a tick being placed in the software which should have warned me with a pop up that the battery was low, I didn’t receive this. I briefly received a red light on the mouse and then it just stopped. Logitech does say you can get three hours use from a one minute charge but I haven’t tried that. 4) I initially experienced issues with the mouse not waking up in the morning when connected to my Mac by Bluetooth. Connecting by the supplied USB dongle was fine however. As I didn’t want to sacrifice a USB port on my Mac, I contacted Logitech support who were very good. They responded each time within a couple of days with steps to take starting at the easiest fixes and working up to more complex ones. One of these worked and Logitech contacted me again to conform all was running OK. Thumbs up to Logitech.

It’s probably difficult to recommend this mouse over similarly priced models as you do sacrifice some (minor) features and it is relatively expensive but if you find you are experiencing wrist pain when using a mouse, I would definitely recommend you give it a try.
