 AI reviews summary

The overall sentiment for Lyka Pet Food is overwhelmingly positive, with users frequently describing the product as a "game changer" for canine health. Many owners of "fussy eaters" report that their dogs now enthusiastically finish every meal. Beyond palatability, there is significant feedback regarding resolved digestive issues, improved skin conditions, and increased energy levels in senior dogs. While the premium price point and subscription model are noted as hurdles for some, the consensus is that the visible health benefits and delivery convenience justify the investment.

Pros
  • Significant Health Improvements: Recurrent reports of resolved skin allergies, reduced itching, shinier coats, and better weight management across various breeds.
  • Digestive Wellness: Numerous users highlight a transition to firmer, less frequent, and significantly less odorous stools, as well as reduced flatulence and gas.
  • High Palatability for Fussy Eaters: Dogs that previously refused kibble or home-cooked meals are consistently reported to "lick the bowl clean" and show excitement at mealtimes.
  • Operational Convenience: The tailored portioning, reliable home delivery, and the flexibility to skip or pause orders via the online portal are highly valued by busy owners.
Cons
  • Premium Pricing: The cost is a significant recurring theme, with several users noting it is expensive for large dogs or multi-pet households, leading some to use it only as a "topper".
  • Delivery and Temperature Issues: A small number of reports mention packages being left in the sun or arriving partially defrosted, with some dissatisfaction regarding the company's response to these incidents.
  • Texture Preferences: While most dogs enjoy the food, some owners noted their pets dislike the "mushy" or "paste-like" texture of certain proteins (specifically Turkey and Lamb) compared to the "chunky" varieties.
  • Aggressive Sales Tactics: A segment of potential customers reported feeling harassed by frequent and persistent sales calls after initially enquiring or signing up for information.
Verdict

Lyka Pet Food is highly recommended for dog owners seeking to resolve chronic issues such as skin allergies, sensitive stomachs, or extreme fussiness through a high-quality, fresh diet. While the high cost and subscription-only model may not suit every budget, the observable improvements in vitality and digestion make it a leading choice for those prioritising nutritional performance over price.

When my Cavoodle turned 8 he developed skin allergies, although no change in lifestyle. After more than a year in and out of the vet, only offering medication my dog was miserable. He would not let us pat him, his skin was raw, bleeding and balding. I felt like the worst owner, with the constant Itching and scratching at scabs we had to put a cone… Read more

on. I tried so many things but nothing helped. Desperate I was willing to try anything. I bought LYKA mixed meals, not expecting a miracle but just to try another thing. The most dramatic turn around happened within weeks, other than being more excited for dinner time than ever he stopped biting and scratching. The irritation subsided and his fur grew back. He now loves a cuddle and runs around like a puppy again. He loves his “stinky treats” dried sardines and jumps and begs for more. Look it’s not cheap but worth every cent. It was so sad to see him like that I never took photos, was too depressing. I only have a before and after of his tail, but his whole body is amazing looking, but most importantly he is happy!

We have two Shikokus, a breed that is infamous for refusing to eat the same kibble or wet food for more than a couple of days at a time, no matter how much they seem to like it. We had tried everything (to the point where I bought or cooked better quality meals for the dogs than for the humans in the house) but nothing really worked, so we decided… Read more

to give Lyka a go with low expectations. Honestly, Lyka's perceived high cost had me looking for any excuse to cancel our subscription. We weren't ready for Lyka's marketing claims to actually be 100% accurate for our dogs. Our two have yet to turn their noses up at any of their Lyka meals, so it's been a massive time-saver and stress relief for me. We use Lyka as a topper for premium kibble that the dogs otherwise rarely eat on its own; just a sprinkle of Lyka has the dogs eating all their kibble. The dogs' body condition has improved so much over three months, with fantastic muscle development and appropriate fat distribution. Their coats are markedly thicker, softer and more resilient. Their energy levels have improved; in particular, our boy's endurance has improved heaps. Our reproductive vet advised us to avoid food that is high in phytoestrogen ingredients, so we were glad to see that Lyka's meals include linseed oil rather than linseed itself (and don't include cheaper fillers such as soybean), so our dogs gain the joint and coat benefits without impacting our girl's reproductive health. We're still surprised to have become solid Lyka converts. We appreciate the convenient home delivery, and the lower-ecological-impact packaging helps reduce the ecological impact of our dogs. Packaging is perfectly-sized for easy freezer storage. In terms of spending we're coming out even compared to our previous spending on any and every dog food options available (only to throw food out when the dogs refused to repeatedly accept the food). Considering the benefits we've observed in our dogs' wellbeing (and considering my time and stress savings), feeding our dogs Lyka as a topper has been great value. The only negative has been the fact that our girl has learned to 'ring' her empty bowl with her paw to demand more Lyka. We can happily live with that one drawback.

I have to accept that the nutritional values are likely as specified, but in all honesty i just couldnt feed my Malinois this every day as her primary food source. pensioner i had to look at the cost, and a total plan of Lyka was dearer than my own daily meal costs. So i opted for a " half" plan and each 500g pack was used over three evening meals together with a handful of quality kibble plus my own prepared meal. For breakfast i used a big dollop of gk yoghurt, kibble, an egg or defrosted sardine or two ( frozen from a wholesaler - cheap) plus a small amt of my brew. Mine had chicken mainly, with liver and heart chunks, plus lots of veges flax seed, brown rice, rolled oats. All protein bought on special as close to use by date. Cost $3 /day plus a few hours to prepare. Image is lyka on left mine on right. Used to use prime 100 rolls for the variety in diet, and may have to revert to this option again. Also trying petzyo kibble instead of hypro kibble.

their first week eating - their poos are picture perfect, farting has almost vanished and they love their food - one dog will eat anything and the other is super fussy - the super fussy one has cleaned her plate every time irrespective of the protein on offer which is unlike her. or needs Lyka I would likely not return. A recent example of customer service, we changed our delivery date which is a great option online so that you can tee up holidays etc. Lyka failed to deliver on the date citing vague issues with their delivery partner. I called multiple times and informed them we would now be away from home and could they redirect the order, they assured me they would and would then call me back later in the day to confirm, they did not call back. Whilst transiting through airports I had to call and once again was assured the redirect is no issue. I then got an email which I replied to seeking confirmation, I didn't get a reply. A few days later, 4-5 days after delivery date I got tracking with my normal home address, I sent another email as I was overseas seeing a refund as it will be delivered and sit on the porch to rot for a couple weeks. I didn't get a response. I then observed the delivery to my home on my camera feed. I am still awaiting a response and will post an update when able to. This is not my first run in with customer service of Lyka. As stated before fantastic food but terrible service, I will not return to Lyka for future dogs at this rate.

delivery. When I went out to pick up the box saw the driver leaving in a small van. Lkya tried to advise these vans are all refrigerated. Advised if the van was refrigerated, it would not be delivering unfrozen food in warm boxes. One of my three dogs now will not eat the food at all and the other two became sick after eating it yesterday. Have thrown the remaining in the bin. Lyka take no responsiblity claiming this cannot happen with unfrozen food been delivered. I read another review where a box of Lyka food was dumped over the fence and left in the hot sun on 3 occassions. Thought I would give this a go to save time. Ive now gone back to cooking my own fresh meals for the dogs. You get advised on all their processes and protocol however they deflect your genuine concerns. The concept is good however it needs to meet health standards even for pets where delivery is concerned. You also dont expect meat to be delievered as fine particles like sand. Dont waste your money.

Follow-up  · The dogs had not tried the food prior to first delivery. Whilst the food had lumps of meat the packaging had lots of fine crumbs and scraps of meat and very dry like sand particles. Food was packaged in plastic packing.

We tried Lyka for our 13 year old senior Border Collie Indee. She suffers from pancreatitis, so we have to be careful with her meals, Lyka has made it very easy to keep her happy.   Meals Lamb Bowl

Looking back, Lyka reminded me of a few principles I usually trust but, for whatever reason, ignored this time. If something marketed as "real food" doesn't look or smell like real food, It probably isn't. If a company spends more time talking down its competitors than letting its own product speak for itself, that's a red flag for me. And while… Read more

subscriptions can be perfectly convenient, they shouldn't be so complicated that managing them becomes harder than simply buying the product when you need it. After my dog developed a severe poultry allergy many years ago, I spent months working with my veterinarian through elimination diets to find food that actually suited her. We eventually settled on a combination of a high-quality kibble and home-cooked meals using rotating proteins (kangaroo, lamb and salmon), and she thrived. Her digestive issues disappeared, her coat improved, and she remained healthy for years.

I decided to try Lyka purely as a convenient backup for busy periods. I had no intention of replacing my dog's existing diet, and I made that very clear during the initial phone call. I also clearly stated that I did not want any ongoing subscription and only wanted to order as needed.

Unfortunately, that conversation was my first red flag. Despite repeatedly explaining my dog's vet-diagnosed poultry allergy, I was repeatedly encouraged to try their turkey recipe because "it's not chicken." I also felt my concerns about portion sizes and my existing feeding routine were dismissed, with the assumption that I would eventually stop cooking and stop using my current kibble.

I then discovered I had already been signed up to a subscription despite explaining I didn't want one. When I asked for it to be cancelled, I was told I would have to do it myself online. The interaction felt unnecessarily difficult and left a very poor first impression. I was so exhausted by the end of that first phone all I let the order go through and thought ok I will at least try it.

When the food arrived, it didn't resemble what I consider real food. It was a brown mush with very little texture. My dog initially ate the lamb and kangaroo meals without major issues, although I noticed significantly larger stools than on her normal diet, suggesting to me in what I have learnt in my journey is lower quality food and too much of it. The food also seemed to deteriorate quickly once opened, despite following the storage instructions saying it would do 2 nights I threw it out after one.

The second delivery was where everything changed. My dog developed diarrhoea, itchy skin, gas and dull eyes after eating the meals. I immediately returned her to her normal diet, together with probiotics recommended by my veterinarian, and thankfully she recovered quickly.

While disposing of one of the lamb meals, I also found bright blue plastic embedded within the food itself. I checked several other pouches from the same delivery and observed the same issue, which was extremely concerning.

I cancelled my subscription immediately.

What disappointed me almost as much as the food was the customer service afterwards. I tried to organise a time to discuss my concerns because I believed the issues deserved a proper conversation. Instead, I received generic emails, missed calls at random times of recorded messages, and my support request was eventually closed without any meaningful discussion. I did not feel my concerns were taken seriously. There were around 15-20 of these performative emails and faux calls in efforts to 'appear to provide support' that really appears to avoid, avoid, avoid. No actual connection, no interest form Lyka, no refund of the $100 food I had to throw out.

You know what Lyka? If you actually DO THE right THING the positive optics usually take care of themselves and often at far less effort than the empty performatives of zero substance.

For me, Lyka was an expensive product that didn't deliver the quality or customer experience I expected. My dog did far better on a vet-supported home-cooked diet combined with high-quality kibble. Subscriptions can be a great convenience, but they shouldn't be so complicated that managing them becomes more work than simply buying the product when you need it.
