Bought this on Friday 6th, took it back this morning as it was leaving a 1 inch wide trail behind, catcher not catching. Kenmore mower told me the bent the aluminium catcher bracket, and should be good. Took home this afternoon and nope... still leaves a trail and now grass shoots up in-between the grass flap and chassis, covering you in grass. Not impressed masport. Goes back again tomorrow morning to see what they come up with. Show details

Not happy with my Masport – Bought a Masport Contractor model less than one full season ago. Waiting to return to shop for third time now. First time was for the rubber safety strip in the back of the mower. Tore after only using mower twice. Second time was for one of the springs on the upper surface of the mower breaking off. Third trip will be to replace this spring… Read more
again. SAME problem as second time. Major pain in the neck to have help lifting into and out of the back of my SUV due to how heavy it is. Not happy with my Masport.

Nice mower but a little heavy – Bought in 2023 and have used it for 4 months. Will plow through tall grass with ease. I use it mainly with the rear discharge but tested it recently.on some fallen leaves with the.mulch plug installed. Mulching ability is excellent. Mower is on the heavy side and the heavy rear will cause the front to lift but it only happens mainly when coming… Read more
out of a turn and engaging the transmission. It's much more controllable and comfortable to grip it on the side of the handles when turning and does a remarkable job of preventing the front from lifting. Once moving the mower remains flat. Transmission is smooth and 3rd gear isn't useful for.mowing because of how fast the mower goes. It's more of a gear to get to you to where you want to go but after that, I use mainly 2nd. Other than that the Honda engine starts on the second pull max. Very happy with it
Disappointed – I bought A Masport Contractor about 18 months ago from Professional Small Engines Townsville. It was sold to me as a strong machine that will need my needs. Simply not true. The belt consistently clogs up with grass and you have pull the machine to bits to clean it. The bolts holding the plastic grass shute are only small short self-tappers and… Read more
need replacing after first dismantle. After awhile the clutch stops disengaging making the machine dangerous. I only use it at home so it doesn't work hard at all. I sought support from Professional Small Engines Townsville and they just were not interested at all. The machine does not perform as expected and the after sales service disappointing. I will fix it up the best I can sell it and get another brand. And definitely from a different supplier.

Subpar commercial mower; stay clear – First, the good: * Powerful Kawasaki engine that is surprisingly very fuel efficient. A full tank lasts me 3-4 lawns as a commercial user * Very large catcher that can actually be filled to the brim (provided you wash it often to allow airflow through the fabric) * Handles slopes very well. Powerful self-propelled mechanism * Handles… Read more
overgrown lawns, especially with the back-chute design; this does not replace a side-chute mower however
Now, the bad: * Poor manufacturing/assembly. The bolts holding the metal plate to protect the belt were put in at an angle, so once taken out weren't able to be put back in (the threads were stripped)
* The front wheels bent outwards after a few hours use, so the mower no longer propels in a straight line
* The front axle fell out once. I re-attached it and used locktight to ensure it doesn't happen again
* Needs constant maintenance. Poor choice to use a belt over a shaft-drive mechanism, considering this is nearly a $2,000 mower. The back axle needs to be greased, the belt needs to be constantly cleaned, the tension needs to be adjusted, etc etc.
Not worth it, nor the hassle. Get a Honda, Toro or even a commercial Victa.

best mower yet – Bought this from the Red Shed about 3.5 years ago. It is heavy to push and manouvre (not a self driver) but the Kawasaki motor is surprisingly powerful and frugal on fuel. A nice heavy duty unit, used on 2 acres for grass cutting and mulching plant prunings. A bit of advice: Try to change the blades through the catcher opening first, then if you… Read more · 3
can't do that remove the cutting deck. I snapped the deck bolt, was advised an airtool is much better than a hand spanner for this job. Cost me $$ to rethread the engine shaft. If you can handle the weight of the machine, this is a great mower.
Owned one for 3 years, commercial use.Thinking of buying a second as a spare when the business grows – Easy to manoeuvre. Cuts all grass, mulches buffalo. Will use a tank of gas in a little over a hour of hard work. I don't really use the catcher because the mulches turns it to dust. I've used it a couple of times and it's great, decent size. Best Value for me – Bought mine 2nd hand for a great price and have been using it for 18 months, other than being heavy, it hasnt broken down and other than servicing hasnt cost me anything else. Ive tried Other and inc Honda and Toro and was less than impressed. This is a beast of a mower that cuts great, even wet grass hills or flat grounds, im not a big fan of… Read more
the grass thrower ( back door) but it has the feature if you want it, mulching is great. clogs in the wet if you cut too low, but which mower doesnt. not a lot of after market blade options. handles fold donw nice. starts pretty much first time every time, I havnt changed the spark since i got it. Wheels are huge which helps keep traction for self drive. Great on fuel, honestly the Kawasaki engine is the best Ive ever used. You do have to buy the right machine for the purpose and this was and still is perfect for me. I would without hesitation buy a new model of the same Spec.
Rubbish – Purchased from Red Shed in Dandenong VIC and has spent more time in their workshop than working for my business. In less than 40 hours ( assumed, because it always breaks down within a day of pickup, so never had a chance to fit an hour meter) it's had... The front axle fall out. Two new gear selectors and cables. Belt bearing. Two sets of rear… Read more
wheel bearings and pawls. One whole new gear box. After all these parts it still keeps losing drive. Red Shed have supplied me new parts for the rear wheel bearings and pawls but I've been waiting for months on the PDF instructions to do the work myself. Hell, I even asked to just trade the damn thing in on a new Honda but the new manager there is hopeless at calling people back. I take pride in my machines, do not take on jungle jobs and have been in the business for nearly 20 years and this is the worst machine I have ever bought and has been an embarrassment to have on board my trailer.
BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU CAN DO IS MASSPORT – Massport contractor tottally rubbish by far, front wheels will snap off bad welding job, gear box will stop working, motor cuts out every time on a bit longer grass, they look good but are cheaply made and over priced Show details
Buyer beware – I have been a contractor for 30 years, so have a bit of an idea on what's to be expected from a mower, I bought two Contractor Mowers and they are rubbish- beware ! Show details

Know better, choose better.
Expensive mistake! Back to Honda – This mower is not fit for commercial use, the gearbox is CONTINUALLY blocked, forever clearing it & its 6 months old, the front wheels are a very poor design, weekly made and overall I think the best description of this product would be Fragile, back to Honda Show details
Awesome mower just a little heavy – The Masport contractor is an awesome mower a little on the heavy side but has a perfect cut quality. Get the one with the Briggs engine as the Kawasaki is under powered and not as good as the Briggs engine the mower is a very good mower has a perfect cut quality Show details
Too many breakdowns – I have been running the contractor since about February. First issue was one of the cables running down the right hand side of the machine was rubbing against the wheel and wore of the plastic cable protection, store would not replace it. Snapped a front axle and was replaced under warranty but then the new axle wore as the wrong bush was… Read more
installed and it popped out and had metal rubbing on metal and mower was not mowing in a straight line, I had to purchase a new axle myself. Then the disc boss broke and had to be replaced. Then the gearbox had to be replaced as the right hand side shaft snapped. Now the plate that covers the drive belt has worn a hole in it and the drive belt pulley bearing needs to be replaced.
Besides the issues the mower does mow well and I have no problem with long grass. Only issue is the weight as if I have to go up stairs I use a ramp which adds extra time to the job.
I probably would not buy another one as I need reliability.
Not for commercial use – I own a gardening service in Canberra and decided to spend the money on a good quality machine that could cope with the demands of my business. Big mistake, I took it back today after half a dozen attempts at basic lawn mowing. It cannot get through the tough long grasses, and even a regular lawn pulls it up, it seems that the motor isn't strong… Read more
enough to power it?
It really struggled to cut anything and at the first sight of a bit of long grass it folded and conked out.
I buy everything from my local Stihl shop and this is the only thing I have ever taken back to get a refund.
Not a contractors mower to much down time – My new Masport Contractors ST S21 mower spends more time in the repair shop than out working. Faulty gear cable, Rear right hand tyre keep coming off rim. Front axle has snapped twice. Big grass catcher but clogs up when grass is wet. Blades last half as long as previous Honda mowers. Major grass build up in and around gear box behind screw on… Read more
plate hence build up causes problems with gear cable. Plus with a metal base the mower is to heavy. Cost $1400 use only as a spare mower now as have gone back to Honda's.
Excellent Mower for Domestic Use – After all my research on Mowers I landed with Masport Contractor (Briggs Engine) It's an Excellent Mower for Domestic use as it's easy to maintain and for spare parts and I have used this mower for 8 times now and I admit its not that great on wet grass but it starts quickly and being self propelled it makes my mowing job easy and has a huge… Read more
Catcher. If your looking more heavy duty go with the Masport Contractor Kawasaki Engine. But its great and cant complain and much less in price $$$ than the Honda HRU.
Needs more hands on testing and less engineering – I had been getting 2 years work from the Honda hru's but the last 2 went 14 months before major repairs. My local shop talked me into this masport in January. Solid looking machine and the motor starts 2nd pull most times. Worse at picking up damp grass and clogging than the Honda. Which is saying something. New blades needed after 3 weeks… Read more
instead of 2 months.
At 3 weeks a weld failed on the front axle. Had to be re welded.
At 10 weeks, last Tuesday, the rear drive axle snapped at the drive cog on the right hand side. Can cut in perfect clockwise circle unless I wrestle it straight. New axle and gearbox still in transit apparently.
Would I buy another one?
You can only fool me once.
It only took 13 days but I'm up and running again(sarc). Will see how long it lasts. They had to… Read more (+1 reply)
