Bye bye CBA! Commonwealth Bank recently got 'frugal' with its Ultimate Reward card... pretty much destroying the ability to put all your expenses through the card and buy gift cards from Coles etc on regular basis. Looked for a similar reward level in other established cards, but most of them involve Qantas points or other travel benefits that I will never use. Along came MoneyMe in my search. Apprehensive at first, as I've never heard of them. But with a 1% monthly cashback, it looks to be even better reward value than CBA Ultimate. So I was prepared to give them a go!
Still early days in regards to how well it actually works, but application approval was pretty quick. Put in the application on Saturday morning, and by Monday afternoon I was adding the card to my Apple wallet (so next business day processing).
The application process asks for log in details to the bank where your pay goes in, which was the only 'sour taste' in the whole process. That's a little off-putting, but once approved I've changed the password on that log in anyway. There is an option to not do that and send in statements instead, but it's far quicker to just let them look (they are going to see the same information on the statement anyway), and then just change password afterwards.
Will be glad to close CBA at end of month after cashing in my points with them.
It doesn't say it anywhere on the application process, but this card is Mastercard based (in case you were wondering if it was Visa or American Express etc).
- Card Start Date: September 2026
