I bought this on Special...never again, the smell is revolting, like wet musty dog mixed with BO !! Very disappointed as OMO has always been considered a more premium product. Show details

This is the only laundry powder I buy. It is packed carefully, no mess when you open it. Inside the plastic bag that is closed. I have a lot of sport people in my house, and they clothes smell at the end of the day. No other laundry powder or liquid would wash it away. But this powder is really good at removing smell. I highly recommend this product. Perfect. Show details

Switched to this after using the Omo Ultimate powder with no issues and great results, after getting a new LG machine with auto liquid dosing. Used about 30ml instead of the recommended 50ml dose for a load of work uniforms and other clothes. It cleaned the clothes brilliantly, however I've had a contact/allergic dermatitis reaction from the… Read more

liquid. All under my underarms, neck and groin area is very dry and raw, skin has peeled, and it feels like sunburn. I've had to use a hydrocortisone and barrier repairing products to heal and repair my skin. I've had rewash everything the liquid has touched, add multiple rinses, and use white vinegar in the final rinse to remove the residue. The scent of the liquid seems to be really strong, and it's almost as if the liquid is far more concentrated than indicated. I haven't had reactions to Omo before. If you have any sensitivities, avoid this product.

Ruined my husband's favourite jumper, my son's favourite shirt and my work shirt. Left bleach stains after diluting with at least 3L water. Washed and tested multiple ways and times to ensure it was in fact the omo ultimate liquid that caused the damage. Very disappointing. It was the pieces of clothing on top in the machine that copped the damage… Read more

Over the top horrible scent – The smell of this powder is over the top awful - so over-scented with an unpleasant cheap smell that lingers. The only reason I purchased is the sensitive option wasn't in stock and package says its Omo's best powder. In my view it isn't because of the scent so after a few loads and I'm giving it away. Show details

Smell is fine not too overpowering I've dealt with much stronger from other brands I was expecting this to be as strong as the ultimate pods judging by the comments, I think people add way too much powder you don't need a lot. The only downfall is the price $39 for 2kg is insane but I really wanted to try as I never have and I know it will last me. Show details

Follow-up  · Still using from time to time, 2 to 3 and a half scoops due to hard water works perfect for me personally. Cleaning power is great and no residue left behind.

Absolutely Love It! – My MIL suggested OMO Ultimate Gold to me. It smells amazing. I only use to mainly to wash my cloth nappies in, leaving the nappies smelling clean and fresh! I only buy it when it comes on special, I'm always recommending this washing liquid! Show details

Cleans really well – I use omo ultimate powder for clothes that are generally super dirty. It cleans well, smells is not strong, it’s friendly on my skin, and the box has lasted for almost a year (still got half left). I put a laundry conditioner, and if the stains are too much I add vanish, I also recommend using less than what the manufacturer recommends. Show details

DO NOT PURCHASE!!! Decided to try a new laundry powder and this was on sale at Coles so went for it. After washing a full load of laundry with this and hanging it up to dry, it smelt so bad. There was a strong musky odour that I never had before using my old laundry powder (Bosistos). I had to wash my clothes twice more and still it smelled… Read more

terrible. The stench permeated every inch in my home. I hate this laundry powder so much and will be returning it asap. For those who bought this at Coles, the staff member refuses to refund me because it's already opened. But how would I know it's bad if I hadn't opened it to use?? This is ridiculous. You'll have to ring Coles customer helpline to state your case, get a reference number and email receipt to get a refund thru the store.

More smell does not equal better clean! – When the last of my top loader powder ran out, I thought I'd try this to wash adults' everyday clothing. Well, it smells like fabric softener on steroids! Omo, if you are listening, washed clothes are supposed to smell fresh when you place your nose into them, and certainly not from several feet away. My washing machine reeks of it even when… Read more

the clothes are gone! There is too much fragrance - cut it back! I will reduce the amount used to a thimbleful to reduce the overpowering odour, but then I suppose it won't clean as well.

EDIT 5/3/25 - I use 20 ml for lightly-soiled loads, 25 ml for heavier soiling, using a medicine 'glass' to measure. (I might use 50 ml for oily/greasy overalls, etc. - would want to hang them outside for a couple of days though).

Foul smelling washing powder – Odorous detergent. The smell irritated everyone in the family. We have had to wash our clothes with another detergent to remove the perfume and after many years of using this brand, we will not be repurchasing. Show details

New formula makes clothes stink! – Definitely something wrong with this new formula. It powder itself is OK but once you wash your clothes they have that same smell you get when clothes were left wet too long before washing. Like a mouldy, musty, unpleasant smell. Surely they would've check that before releasing the new formula. Now we're stuck with a 5kg box of the suff.

Offensive Moist Odour – My experience is the same as several other posters'. I switched from my liquid detergent to OMO Ultimate because a CHOICE testing review gave the OMO top marks. Two weeks in, and Son#2 has a rash on his chest. I switched him back to the liquid; rash gone. I kept using the OMO for Son#1's clothes. - but we kept noticing that his clothes had… Read more

that 'foisty' smell..... dirty teenager, I thought. After a while, I figured it must be the machine and gave it a thorough drum+gasket bleach clean. But the foisty-ness continued.... and I realised it's only one boy's clothes, perhaps the difference is the OMO! This weekend I washed everyone's everything with our previous liquid - problem solved. OMO = Offensive Moist Odour

Wth happened to this? It so perfume heavy now – Wth happened to Omo Ultimate? Been using it for many years with no complaints and their *new formula* is so perfume heavy that I'm getting a migraine just being in the laundry room with it. Cheap nasty fragrance smell at that too. I'm scared to even wear the clothes washed by it. Why change something that was fine previously? Another cost-cutting ingredient change? Disappointing. Show details

Used to be good, now funny smell – Happily using Omo Ultimate for around 7 years. With this latest batch of powder (Omo Ultimate Antibacterial) my clothes and bedding smell funny. It is that mouldy smell as if the clothes have been left wet for too long, or not washed properly. The powder is more of a grey colour now when it used to be white. I have tried cleaning my washing… Read more

machine with 2 treatments of Sard, 1 of Pine O Clean, and 1 of bleach, then a final rinse with Omo (empty load). Clothes still smell bad. Was researching a new washing machine today but saw the same complaints from others so I think I'll try another brand of powder first before blaming my washing machine.

Update 5/3/23 Have done a few loads with "Biozet Attack Plus Eliminator" powder and clothes smell fine now.

Update 4/7/23 Biozet is no longer cleaning my clothes and bedding properly. Have Biozet changed their ingredients? It doesn't smell the same as it used to. Tried Cold Power and Fab as well, both terrible as well — shirts under armpits can still smell of old deodorant, bed sheets don't smell fresh.

Update 1/1/24 Have been using Dynamo Professional Odour Eliminating liquid for a couple months, and clothes seem to smell fine again. Not sure what's going on. Are the powders no good now? All I can think of is that the liquid and cap seals it off from oxygen whereas the powder is in a non airtight cardboard box. Is it possible the oxygen from the air is causing the new biodegradable ingredients to... degrade?

New powder is not up to standard – I have bought OMO Ultimate for many years and loved the product for both stain removal and how white it made my clothes. I noticed right away that the powder has gone from a bright white to a dull greyish brown, but I continued as usual only to notice that my beautiful white towel has come out equally dull! It is no longer the beautiful white… Read more

bright result I used to get and there doesn't seem to be much of a smell at all, but other posters have mentioned a horrible smell once dry. Needless to say, at this price point I won't be repurchasing OMO and it will take a lot to get me back as a customer. Not happy and looking for another powder!!!

Best I’ve tried so far – I only use one scoop of this in my wash despite the recommended 1 ½ as I feel this is all that is needed to get the clothes clean. Deals with all food stains (I end up covered in my toddlers meals) and I do not need to pre treat my clothes which saves a lot of time and hassle for me. Gets rid of odour, sweat and first detergent I’ve used that… Read more

cleans off perfumes as well. It doesn’t foam up in my front load washer compared to what others have said on here but I have a 7kg box I got back in august 21 so possibly they’ve altered the formula since then? Regardless I won’t be changing detergents I will continue to buy OMO ultimate. You get a fresh smell on the clothes whilst damp but it mutes down once air dried. Still smells fresh but I can’t smell it once clothes are on which I prefer cause otherwise I’ll just have a migraine all day!

Ultimate, as in: the FINAL washing powder you may ever use – It was on special, thought I'd give it a try. MISTAKE. Pulling the cardboard tab on the box is like pulling the pin on a grenade- except grenades routinely give you chance to distance yourself from their contents, as soon as it was open I could TASTE it. I can't be in the same room as the washing powder box: the odour/aroma/stench is overpowering. I have to open the outside laundry door every time I do washing, and make sure the inner door is closed, lest any of the vapours creep into my hallway.

Apart from the incredible similarity between this product and mustard gas, it has 200gms less than regular or sensitive OMO, and this "Ultimate: powder's instructioms suggest using 1/2 a scoop MORE than their other powders!

EPIC FAIL.

Not the same formula-what have they done! – I bought a 5 kilo box from Coles and noticed a new box from the normal Omo Ultimate one. The washing powder has changed. It’s not for front loaders, even though it specifies you can use the powder for both front and top loaders. I now have suds pouring out of the machine, which will ruin it. Omo Powder - but ?????? – This product was great when manufacturer used to make it separately for Front or top loader. consumers, but they didn’t. A lot of consumers have either too or front loader. Even now when you purchase a new washing machine from a retailer, they recommend its best to use Omo ( powder- cheaper than liquid) when infact Omo powder cannot be used in Front Loader only good for top loader where as Liquid can be used in both (top/front). This manufacturer should not manufacture & Sell Omo Powder for Front/Top Loader but only for Top loader. If consumers use this product and have seen excessive suds, machine breaks down, please report to Fair Trading who can guide you to appropriate authorities for product review/investigation. Infact when this product 2 into 1 came onto the shelf, I called the company , they didn’t care. Omo powder comes in small/large quantities which majority of consumers buy as its cheaper to buy than Omo liquid which is dear. I myself have Front loader and never touch powder only Liquid .

Excessive suds killed our front loader – We've used OMO for more than 30 years, but just this year, the amount of suds that it makes in our front loader is beyond the pale. It did it again and we carefully watched it while it did it once more. The front… Read more

loader blew up/burnt out. We replaced it with another only to have the suds pour out again. Not a fault of the machine. Something not right with our favourite soap powder. Something has changed recently to cause this. We were confused as to what was happening as we didn't even know it could make too many suds until we looked up similar comments.

Suds galore! – Used OMO for decades in front loader washing machines. However, no more, as this product now results in excessive suds. Also leaves residual powder In detergent dispenser which has to be rinsed off after every wash. Sad as this used to be a respected product.
