Severely disappointed and filled with regret. I watched youtube tutorials of this product to see how it worked when I decided to purchase - if only it DID as promised! The charge points are frail and don’t sit properly. Despite having multiple wifi signals to connect to, it consistently drops out. “No Link”. Despite motion sensor turned OFF,… Read more

it turns on its own. I can’t control the camera from the monitor - it feels like it’s FIGHTING me. Auto turns off within minutes. I wanted this product so I could get things done around the house and monitor while bub napped, but I find myself spending so much wasted time trying to fix and reset the monitor until I just give up. More than defeats the purpose when I get it working and within a minute the camera drops link or moves out of view on its own and I have to keep sneaking into the nursery to adjust.

Poor experience – Very disappointed. I’ve had to send back two monitors that would not charge. While a quick turn around time was appreciated I felt silly after the first phone call when I didn’t understand what are meant by ‘parent unit’, yet she just kept repeating. I was then promised to be sent certain parts which were not delivered. Then asked if I still needed those parts after I followed up. Will not be buying again.

A big step up from previous models – I've had a few monitors so far and this oricom SC895 has definitely taken baby monitoring to a new level. Firstly the range is fantastic, and even at the other end of the house while I'm outside putting out the washing it doesn't drop out. Both the audio and picture are crystal clear and the talkback function works a treat. The thing that… Read more ·  1

really excites me about it though is the auto tracking function. Wow! I've set the monitor up in my little ones play room and wherever she roams, it automatically follows. It's a very neat feature.

Set up was a breeze, pretty much switch it on and go. You can also add more cameras so having one in the nursery and one in the play room works really well.

Another thing I love about it is there is no external antenna so there's no chance of breaking it (which I've done with one of my older model oricom monitors).

I'm not a huge fan of the "sound alarm" or "movement alarm" as they drown out any noise in the room while they're going but I can see there's a benefit for those who want to use this particular function.

The blue power light on the camera is quite bright when using it in a dark room - something to keep in mind if you're not keen on a night light. I'll be covering mine with a little piece of tape and voila, problem solved!

Overall a very handy monitor and one that outshines others I've used in the past. I'm really happy with it and it ticks all the boxes in our household.

Good Product, Great Customer Service – We have been happy with this monitor since purchasing it nearly two years ago - it has a clear picture for both day and night, has clear audio, is easy to set up, and has a fairly good range (although, sometimes will lose signal). We especially appreciated that it didn’t use wifi, as we were wanting to avoid it, and have found this monitor to be a… Read more ·  1

good option amidst the majority of baby monitors relying on wifi!

However, what we have been especially impressed with has been the customer support and service from Oricom. We recently ran into an issue with our monitor, and Oricom helped us in an efficient, quick, and friendly manner. They organised replacements parts (as we were still under warranty) and sent them out to us really quickly. They were very helpful, and it was such a relief to have communication with an organisation who genuinely cared about their customers!

Great camera quality – I love this monitor as it allows me to view both my children in different rooms. It has great video quality and I can move the cameras from the monitor and talk through it which are handy features. The charging unit however isn’t the best as it needs to be connected to the charger all the time, meaning it’s moved a lot. This has caused the charging unit to become loose and not charge properly. Show details ·  1

Parent monitor constantly breaks – AVOID AVOID AVOID! This monitor is a complete waste of money. We've had ours for 3.5 years and have had the parent unit replaced 3 times. Waste of money – Would not recommend…. Picture is not clear…. VOX is not sensitive enough…. Picture doesn’t stay on for long enough when screen has been activated. I’ve owned a couple of monitors in my life and this one’s the worst one I’ve owned! on the hunt for a new one as my son vomited last night some time and the monitor didn’t pick it up!

Please please fix the charging port – I have used many different monitors over the years as I have been a Nanny. I really like this monitor because of the large and clear picture on the parent unit and the ease of use, however we have gone through 3 at least. The same issue all the time. The charging point at the back on the parent unit becomes loose and then eventually it doesn't… Read more

charge. I have replaced it many times under warranty and the customer service said it was a known fault and it had been rectified. Well today we again had to call up and replace it and I was told the same thing years later, so we will see if it lasts, or at least until we no longer need the use of baby monitors. The other fault I have notice is that the time of day will run at least 15 mins behind. Even though I set it 10-15 mins earlier eventually it lags and the time is 15 mins behind actual time.

Good concept but needs adjustments – We purchased this in Jan 2021 and 10 months later the parents unit has stopped charging. I had no idea so many people we're having the same issue, I probably wouldn't have purchased if I knew. Quite an expensive bundle however I love the sensor pads as that gives us peace of mind. I find it annoying that the camera has to be plugged in to work as… Read more

that means we have to unplug and plug again if moving rooms etc. They should really be wireless. I dont understand why the lullabies play so loudly through the parent unit, it's for the baby to hear not us lol. Volume for hearing baby etc. Is not an issue aside from the lullabies. Movement is pretty good, just wish the camera could pan lower than it currently dies. I think they definitely need to consider other charger plug options as this one is a nightmare. Constantly falls out when charging and need to triple check it is actually charging. Battery life also does not last very long. Customer service have been absolutely wonderful at least.

Poor design – Camera doesn't go down far enough. Battery only good for around 5 hrs. If you use the lullabies the sound on the monitor is deafening so you have to mute it which defeats the purpose. The monitor charger is a silly design that we've found damages the unit as it only fits in one way and in the middle of the night when it's dark and your tired becomes an issue. Picture quality isn't great especially in low light. Show details

Not safe for 2 or more kids – The only way you can have this setup for more than one child/room is to have it on the scan mode to flick every 15 seconds back and forth. I don't believe this is safe as what if you miss something in the other room during the scan time. Great customer service, not so great product – We owned this system for about 3 months until the screen's USB port wore out from every day use and would no longer charge. unit the same day (via baby bunting) and we chose to upgrade to the SC870.

Pros: - Decent range, never had an issue inside the house (medium side 3-bedroom house) - OK battery life - it would last most of the night. Iusually had to plug it in to charge in the early morning - OK screen, it was clear and legible in most situations - The swivelling camera worked well and was handy - Can be taken anywhere - doesn't require Wifi to operate unlike other cameras - Overall good build quality (except for the USB port - see below)

Cons: - The screen's USB charge port. Micro USB is a terrible choice for something like a baby monitor. Unlike the USB port on a phone there is no support around the plug's metal shell, so it was easily bent and wore out quickly. We got an extra month out of it by holding the plug in a particular position until it wouldn't work at all. - Average video and sound quality - it gets the job done - Clunky menu system. I was surprised to find out these are actually designed in Australia, the menu system is akin to a cheap Chinese dash cam. The buttons were slow to respond and would sometimes not do what you were expecting them to do (ie, pressing up or down quickly would sometimes move the camera, rather than a long hold) - Alerts (motion, sound and VOX) didn't work very well - we ended up just turning them off to stop the annoying beeps at 2am - You can't turn off the low battery alarm or even change the volume. That caused a few early morning wakeups. - Room temperature was never very accurate

Oricom Secure 895 baby monitor is absolutely useless and not worth the money you pay! – Video monitor quality is absolutely average and that's about the most useful thing in this product. It does the job - you can see that your child is still in the room but movement lags and view of your child is very blurry. Onto the parent unit. Firstly, the charger for the parent unit never worked from the moment I took it out of the box. I… Read more

called Oricom and they sent out a new charger. It's now broken again after three charges. Trying to call Oricom this time has been unsuccessful, put through to voicemail twice after holding for 15mins each time.

The functions don't work. Even on the lowest setting, my VOX function goes off every 2-5mins saying sound alarm even when the room is empty. Motion setting is also useless because it alternates every other 2-5mins with the sound alarm. So I can't mute the parent unit and rely on motion and sound alarm because it would literally keep me up all night. Instead, I have to keep the volume on for the whole night on low, which plays annoying static noise and I can barely hear when my LO cries. Leaving this on all night obviously then drains the battery. Which you can't charge, because the chargers are faulty.

Every time I psych myself up to use it again, I regret it and give myself a huge headache.

Leave this one on the shelf, people.

A Dream For A Wriggly Kid – UPDATE 10/4/2020 While I’d still say that the visual component of this baby monitor is unparalleled and absolutely phenomenal for a wriggly kid - I’m sorry to report the audio is abysmal on the parenting unit. It just cuts out willy nilly, mid cry, mid conversation.. I contacted Oricom and their customer service was great, they sent me a… Read more

replacement immediately for which I was grateful. However the replacement did the exact same thing. I moved the parent unit around the house to make sure the signal somehow wasn’t being disrupted in our (very small) 2 bedroom apartment. No dice. The audio just doesn’t work.

Once again the oricom customer service team were great, immediately gave me some sort of refund code for baby bunting (although baby bunting wouldn’t provide a refund, they’d only give me store credit, which is annoying because no baby monitor that is stocked there has very good reviews) so anyway - it’s with regret I redact the below review. If you don’t care about audio and all you care about is a visual monitor, this is a good unit for you. It’s worth noting that the visual is so good and clear and tracks so well that I almost kept it just for the visual monitoring but decided I wanted audio too.

Sad, really.

*********

My daughter is the world’s wriggliest sleeper and this is the first monitor I’ve come across that tracks her and helps me see her at all times. The range of motion and the proficiency of which it tracks is second to none, clear and wonderful image.

Easy set up, plug in and go.

Reliable and fantastic visual. Huge screen, very clear.

Parent monitor is great and sturdy.

I’ve found the audio can be a bit spotty but wonder if that’s because I’m in a double brick apartment (I’m unsure that’s entirely true). To clarify, when I say spotty, I can hear my child every time she cries but we’re I to used try to have a conversation through the monitor with my daughter, her audio will cut in and out. A bit annoying but not a real deterrent as I don’t particularly want to speak to her when she’s sleeping anyway and the light up function to show when noise is coming from her room even with the audio is on mute is sufficient.

Only other thing I’d say is the charging mechanism is a micro USB style of fitting which I find to be annoying and I think a grandparent who wasn’t wearing their glasses has already shoved the charger in upside down and maybe ruined (or at least definitely) damaged the change function. Admittedly, this is a grandparent flaw not a design flaw, but I do prefer charging cables that are Micro USB fit as I think there’s room for tired error.

All in all, the pros out weigh the cons and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Terrible monitor – Really unhappy with this monitor. Its one of the most expensive monitors on the market but it has to be one of the worst. monitor is black and white instead of colour. The image in colour is blurry as well.

The lullaby function can't be used as it's super loud on the parent unit but can barely be heard from the camera.

The camera can pan up to the ceiling but doesn't go far enough down so I cant see my baby in the cot with this camera without having to somehow mount it high on an angle which makes it pretty useless.

I've been using this monitor for a month now and have had issues where half the time the zoom button doesn't work and sometimes the monitor screen goes black. Now the camera won't go left or right when pressing the buttons.

I would expect a much better monitor for the price. I would say it's faulty but it seems lots of parents have had the same issues with this camera. If I could, I would return it and get a refund.

Update: before submitting this review, there was an option to send it to Oricom to resolve before posting so I did this but got the same generic response and got told to give them a call. Not all of us have time in the day to call you during your hours to sort out issues with your product. Super unhappy and don't think I'll ever buy an Oricom product again.

this one has no sound from the actual camera. Oricoms only suggestion for no sound in the troubleshooting manual is to turn up the Volume??? People are not stupid, this is not a troubleshooting solution. We are very disappointed as I have an Oricom Video Monitor that is 11yrs old which I absolutely loved and was hoping to upgrade with this trusted brand again. Not sure if Oricom has dropped the ball on this monitor but clearly we must have bought a dud from a bad batch. Or this type of monitor needs to be removed and reviewed before selling to customers. Going back again tomorrow for money back as we have essentially lost out on the eofy sales, so thanks for that. We may get our returns on faulty goods but dont see any compensation on petrol and the time wasted for a mother that is due in 1 month time.
