Panasonic DMP-BD84GN

I am surprised to find the resolution and buffering of poor resolution quality. The unit will freeze sometimes before you have finished watching a Netflix movie and will most definitely on the second movie. The fix is to reboot the Player from the main switch. transferred it to the Panasonic DMP-BD84GN. No sub-titles!!! I then tested it on files copied from a DVD onto the USB stick. It played successfully but when I went to show subtitles, of which there were several languages including English) it only showed the first language Polish!

Not a good Bluray or dvd player – Bought brand new and it had problems after a few weeks. Brand new blurays and dvds will freeze or others say wrong region even though they worked before and are in the correct country according to the player. seeing problems. Also the positioning of the netflix button is quite poor considering when pressed it automatically takes you out of what your watching without asking a confirmation, then it takes awhile for it to allow you to exit and unlike other common players its last play memory completely restarts if you accidentally hit stop or netflix button (which is right below stop and above the directional buttons you use to browse settings or click to play the disc when it doesn't automatically load which it will also do) then it'll take you back to the main menu and unskippable legal warnings etc all again. Its honestly a 50/50 every time I put on a movie if it will play all the way through without freezing or if I'll have to unplug and plug the player back in (come on even my dvd players from 10 years ago would have the power button on the remote override freezes or faults in the machine to turn it off) honestly $15 a month or $160 plus buying blurays which are more expensive than dvds despite still being outsold by them, its back to streaming and dvds for me.

Excellent value Multi region DVD Blue Ray player – The price for this unit was lower even that internal PC Blue Ray players, and as removable media has gradually fallen into obsolescence with streaming services, I found surprisingly few multi region DVD players on the market. is so much traffic in the 2 to 5 GHz range, interference is degrading all comms. I believe in wires, and attach this thing to an RJ45 cable, and Netflix is adequate.

Pros: Cheap ($124 June 2023 JB Hifi), plays DVDs and Blue Rays regardless of region, If you pay $10 for a Cat6 cable, and plug it in to your router, you have one button access to Netflix, no stuffing around with network passwords and working out which is yours in a plethora of neighbors wifi access points. Blu Ray and DVDs are cheaper, more simple, reliable, responsive and convenient than streaming services.

Cons: No 'DVD Menu' button. When watching multi program series you need to go thru all the copyright warnings, or skip thru (chapter by chapter) to the end of the program to end to reach the menu again.

No WiFi option in menu – I turned on the player with the intent to try Netflix. When it started up it went through an easy setup, but no it option to connect wirelessly came up. When I went into the setup menu it also had no option to connect to the WiFi network. In a day and age where wireless connection is an essential I found this to be extremely poor.  Show details

the mechanism is searching the disc to read it. I never noticed it initially but it became apparent when playing movies or concerts with very light passages in them. I have to some extent become used to it and thought it might not be a strong enough reason to go and seek a third one. The colours are reproduced well as is the sound. Often the unit freezes and can only be recovered by switching it of at the mains and switching it back on again. The remote has a design flaw that puts the Netflix button right near the main operating controls. This button when pressed accidentally leads the unit to try to find Netflix before giving you the message about no connection and allowing you to opt out back to whatever you were doing. The unit in general is also somewhat slow to start. I think I have been unlucky to find a couple of lemons from a company that I would expect better of. Also difficult to upgrade the software. This experience won't stop me from buying Panasonic again, but maybe you won't have a problem.
