Tommee Tippee Super-steam Advanced Electric Steriliser

I am very disappointed with both Tommee Tippee and Baby Bunting regarding the handling of a faulty Tommee Tippee Supersteam Electric Steam Steriliser. The unit was purchased from Baby Bunting Hoppers Crossing in July 2024 and was used exactly as intended. It was regularly cleaned, descaled, stored indoors, and very well looked after. After less… Read more
than two years of use, the steriliser developed an electrical fault and began tripping the safety switch in my home every time it was turned on, making it completely unusable.
When I contacted Tommee Tippee for support, I was asked to provide numerous photos, answer multiple technical questions, and spend considerable time troubleshooting the issue. After all of that, the only resolution offered was a discount code to purchase another product.
I was then advised that because the retailer’s warranty had expired, there was little that could be done, despite Tommee Tippee’s own warranty information stating that products are covered for two years from the date of purchase.
This does not reflect the level of customer service I would expect from a brand that promotes itself as “Parent Care,” nor the level of support I would expect from a major baby retailer such as Baby Bunting.
As a parent of three children, I chose this product because I trusted both the brand and the retailer. Unfortunately, this experience has left me disappointed with both.
Parents deserve better support when a product develops an electrical fault within the advertised warranty period. Based on my experience, I would not recommend either the product or the after-sales service provided.
Frustrating to use – I purchased this steriliser as part of a pack with a bottle warmer, insulated pouch, plastic tongs, dummy, bottle brush and a 150mL closer to nature bottle. I was happy to buy this package as it was on sale and I've had two other variants of Tommee Tippee sterilisers in the past that worked well for my older children. This steriliser is subpar… Read more
compared to the old ones.
The positives first: - Great value for money - Intuitive to use - Compact - saves on bench space - Easily fits 6 bottles and some dummies
Negatives - Needs descaling at least once a week - scale is evident after the very first use and builds up far too quickly - the bottom plastic rack is already warped - needs to be more durable - the design of the lid is absolutely terrible - the small flat handle is not ergonomic and only works if you use two hands. If you've got your hands full (as you usually do with newborns), trying to put the lid back on one handed often results in dropping the lid or failing to align it and knocking the top tray contents everywhere - the top tray is too unstable only exacerbating the above problem
I wish Tommee Tippee had kept this steriliser similar to the previous design.
Not great, but gets the job done – This Sterilizer isn't the best but it gets the job done. Pros: Sterilization - The Tommee Tippee Super-steam Advanced Electric Sterilizer uses steam to sterilise the baby bottles. It seems to function well and the bottles are clean after each use. The cycle is also quite fast. Easy to Use - The one-touch button system simplifies the… Read more
sterilization process. The automatic shut-off feature adds an extra layer of convenience and safety.
Cons:
Water Residue Buildup - water residue buildup within the sterilizer after multiple uses is quite annoying. While regular cleaning and maintenance can help mitigate this issue, it's something to be mindful of to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the sterilizer.
Functionality - It's annoying that before each use, we had to refill it with water. This unit also doesn't have a drying function, so even though the cycle is quite fast, the bottles are too wet and hot to use straight away, We preferred a UV steriliser over this due to these issues.
Design - the shelf easily falls off, and the cover doesn't full go on. The whole thing feels doesn't feel secure. The unit itself is quite large, and takes up alot of bench space. And if you knock it the wrong way, the whole thing falls apart.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the Tommee Tippee Super-steam Advanced Electric Sterilizer isn't the best, but it gets the job done. It doesn't have any additional features and can be a bit awkward to use. I wouldn't recommend this, and would pick a UV steriliser over it.
Overall Rating: 1.5/5
Terrible and a waste of money – Awful design. The shelf knocks over each time the lid is taken off, brown gunk builds up daily requiring scrubbing and everything stays super wet. Whoever designed this needs to be fired Show details
Does the job (I think!) – Does the job (I think), but the metal heating plate gets disgustingly dirty and needs de-scaling every second or third cycle. Not worth the price you pay in my opinion. Show details
Okay for mobility limitations – Look, It sterilisers but for the price, regardless of what I do (and bless the internet for confirming I am not alone!), it is insane with how quickly it needs a really deep clean. After only two loads I find it needs to sit in vinegar, I allow this for an hour or so then rinse/ wash with warm water. The trays are a nightmare to clean and require… Read more
a brush and magnifying glass. It takes a little while but that didn't bother me, the amount of water the lid holds from condensation is ridiculous, using the instructed amount, in addition to this, it can take a while to cool down so theres a lot of hot condensation around. I like the fact I can take the top level out for larger bottlers but it takes up a lot of space for something that I find quite "needy" of attention a lot of the time. Honestly, I bought it half price and I'm still disappointed with the price I paid for the quality and service of it. For positives, it is light. If someone with limited mobility or someone who felt unsafe with one given the high height of a microwave needed one, its okay for that point but I still would never pay that price again. I'm not holding onto this for future babies and I'm holding onto a lotttt.
Unreliable and needs cleaning constantly – Great idea and we still use it daily, however it is very unreliable and clicks off after a few seconds. You then need to restart and sometimes it works other times it switches off again. Needs constant cleaning as it starts to rust and I’m not in a hard water area. Reported issue to Tommee Tippee with no result Show details
Too hard to clean – I have found that from using this first even with descaling it, the bottom heat panel goes rusty and even scrubbing it doesn’t help. I have found that he microwave steriliser so much better. Show details
Don't waste your money – So I bought this in a pack from TT and as a FTM I was excited to get it all together for a good price. Unfortunately the happiness was short lived. The instructions advise that it would take 5-10min to sterilise... 30-60seconds later light off as if to state steriliser was finished. Yeah, not at all! Longest any cycle has gone is 3min. Hardly… Read more
sterilised and just leaving my babe open to whatever can grow in that environment. Not impressed at all!
Not bad – It can get annoying with the basket it comes in to out the bottles in. So impractical so i don't use it I just stack the bottles in on top of each other, sometimes it literally 5 seconds on runs on so I have to turn it back onto steam. But i do like it its useful. Show details
Great product – This machine fits around 8 bottles plus teats in each cycle. It runs quietly and is water efficiant requiring only 80ml per cycle. The machine is easy to clean with a simple vinegar descale once per week for heavy use. I don’t know how we survived our first born without this machine. Show details
Worked for a whole day – Worked for a single day after purchase. Steam button switches off after a few seconds, and water does not even get hot to create steam. Took unit back to the store and bought a uv sterilisation unit from another store. Show details
The bottle steriliser has been very useful – I bought this kit for for $125 during a half price sale from Baby Bunting. The kit contains 2 x small sized baby bottles, 6 x medium sized baby bottles, a dummy, electric bottle steriliser, electric bottle warmer, tongs and baby bottle carrier. So far the most useful parts of the kit have been the bottle steriliser which I have been using 2-3… Read more
times daily for 3 months and the dummy which was a nice addition as I did not purchase a dummy for my baby as I originally planned not to use one but now occasionally use the one in this kit to settle my baby.
The steriliser is easy to use and accommodates other brands of bottles such as the 150ml Medela bottles (can fit 8 bottles on the bottom rack) or 260ml Avent bottles (can fot 6 bottles on the bottom rack). Also useful for sterilising breast pump parts. Easy to clean with vinegar, just follow the instruction manual. Quickly sterilises in approx 5 minutes.
Haven't used the other parts of this kit as I mainly purchased it for the electric steriliser.
Good price when on sale, would not have paid more than $125 for it though as full price ($250) is too expensive for the quality of the product.
