Viofo A119

Fails when you actually need it – It has worked for years but the one time I observed a crash (no incident for me) and needed footage, I took out the SD card and lo and behold it had not written the data for that trip (no error, simply missing for no reason). Useless when you actually need it. Apparently has happened to others if you Google. Show details
keeping in touch – Just so wonderful to hear and read phone calls clearly without giving up because it is too hard to understand what was been said. Back in touch, thank you so much Konnekt!
(A119 V3) Good video, bad hardware – The A119 V3 camera is very easy to set up and the video quality is good, but I have three of these and they all reset to default settings very soon after changing them. One going bad I can understand as a bad unit but three, purchased at different times... that's a flawed product. For the price I'd say the day time video quality is very good and night time is fine enough, but you had better be happy with the default settings. Show details
Short life expectancy – I have had three of these, (A119 V3). While I consider the set up easy and the picture more than acceptable, each of them failed just out of warranty. The hot Australian summer just kills them so unless you live in a cold climate or can always park under cover, either try another brand or consider these as typical Chinese disposable items. The latter wouldn't be so bad except their price is creeping up and not so slowly now. Show details
Great dashcam for a great price – After relatively long research I decided to purchase VIOFO A119 V3 2K dashcam. Here are the reasons to purchase this camera: Relatively budget price for not so budget specs and quality Great amount of accessories can be bundled with the purchase for any application and installation Great support community and well supported model Here are the… Read more
reasons not to purchase this camera: You’re after brand name and you don’t believe that quality can exist on budget Most of great deals will be shipped from China and you don’t want long wait
I purchased this camera during singles day Aliexpress sales and received it in the first week of 2020. It took a considerate amount of time to arrive. The bonus for buying directly from an official supplier is you can spec it exactly how you intend to use it. In addition to the camera itself I opted in for the GPS module and hard wiring kit to take full advantage of parking mode. I think this is a very important point to make because if you’d like to capture potential tempering with your car or rely on motion detection you will need your cam to be always on standby which is possible only with a wiring camera with the official hardwiring kit. Overall set up is easy and the menu is intuitive. Image quality is beyond acceptable level (v3). So far I’ve tested stand by mode by bumping the car and moving in front of the wind screen. Those separate incidents were recorded. The recording is quite clear too. To differentiate between standby events recordings and driving recordings the standby event name is appended by letter P (for Parking mode). This is not my first dash cam I ever used, but I’m very impressed by the quality, simplicity and price I paid. I won’t hesitate to recommend this dash cam who is on the market for one. Prices may significantly vary. I found that Amazon is very competitive and have free deliveries for prime users. Here is quick link to check if their price is right for you: https://amzn.to/3ppvMaa
Value for money for a budget dash cam – Bought A119S model 3 years ago, still running quite well. It did the job. Night time vision is quite good compared to other budget brands. The dam cam is not using battery but rather capacitor to hold the charge in case power drop so much safer in the car in extreme hot weather. Downside is the dash cam can get quite hot during summer so needs to… Read more
have aircon on. Hot temperature corrupted firmware twice but a quick SD card firmware refresh will fix it. Generally quite happy with the dash cam. Recommend this brand.
DEAD after 2.5 years – DEAD after 2.5 years. Quality of footage is acceptable for the money ($109AUD in Aug17). Setup and operation is OK. In my car, it was not in the sun as I have it attached under the bulkhead, so I expected a longer life out of it or that reason, but nope. Show details
Bad product...safe your money. Sheet from China – Defective product, stuck not working anymore. Only viofo word exists in the screen the menu button pressed and not released because the temperature inside the car, I can't succeed to update new software. The device not recognized in my computer for software update. This product it's a big joke and a big sheet from China. Show details
Definitely a good value dash cam – The installation was quite simple and the picture quality seems to be very good for the price. I would definitely recommend this dash cam for drivers who want peace of mind. Show details
A119S Would have rated zero had it been available – Not for me!! back to the GW-C for me, I had less than 4 hours recording on my unit before it died, will no longer power up. Emails to Viofo support were ignored, so they don't deserve any support from me; lesson learned. Show details
Good features but plagued by reliability issues – The card reader of the dashcam died 13 months from purchase - just outside warranty period (SD card confirmed ok). Poor support from Viofo when you have issues. While it was working it was ok, but the Aussie heat caused rebooting issues and other errors in its short lifetime. Would NOT purchase this brand again.
Good camera with a good price – I purchased the A119 Pro 2k from VIOFO Australia online. Video quality is very good and works well during day and night. Actually works better than expected and is good to see the footage. The GPS acquires satellites quickly and provides accurate position and speed info. The camera has small form factor and tucks away nicely between mirror and… Read more

Positives:
+Very good camera for the price
+it has GPS
+SOS file save
Negatives:
-Slight time gaps appear between the loop recordings. This could be a problem and will check it out further
-If you have a vehicle with antennas on the bullbar, the lane departure and forward collision will constantly beep at you. This feature was turned off and cannot comment on it's operation
-After several months of using the device, the sensitivity setting has been turned 'off' but still registers shock forces (bumps in the road) and saves them as an event. Very annoying indeed!
-Unit sometimes loses recording when vehicle is static. Unknown as to why
-Mount has developed a slight rattle / buzz at certain RPM and this transfers to the video recording. I have placed a small amount of felt tape in the mount but noise is still heard.
Better than nothing I suppose – As an entry level camera for less than $100 it does the basics for daytime driving. (Plus I also purchased the GPS mount and CPL filter.) For everything else however, it's poor. Night-time recording at 2k and 1080p, even at 60fps, is horrible. you can barely make out what is in the headlights, no chance of reading a numberplate or even… Read more
identifying an animal the runs across the road. The parking mode is a waste of time and who knows what makes it start recording? It will record a bush moving in the wind, but not cars and pedestrians in a car park, not even a clothesline of washing in the wind for that matter.... Sometimes the parking mode activates if I walk in front of my car to go somewhere, but then wont switch over to regular recording and I end up a hour trip condensed into a few minutes. Imagine only having 1 or 2 frames of video to show your insurance company?
Then sometimes it wont begin recording and just beeps at me until I can reach across and turn it off then on again.
As a bonus, it also has the cheap vibrating noise in the recordings, like something is internally loose in the dash cam or its rattling against the mount, and the mic is picking it up.
I'm going to look for a cam with better night time recording and parking mode.

Works very well – Although a couple of reviews of the Viofo A119 have reported problems, I bought one of these dashcams with an optional CPL filter and GPS module and so far it works great. The picture quality is excellent and it handles a very wide range of lighting conditions including driving towards the setting sun much better than I expected. After some… Read more
experimenting I found that there's little to be gained by going to the full 1440x2560 resolution setting because slight image blur from vibration and shutter time obscures very fine detail like distant number plates. I've set mine for 1920x1080 resolution. The GPS module locks onto satellites very quickly and provides very accurate position and speed information.
It's inconspicuous near the top of the windscreen and especially for the price it's a great dashcam.
Try to install it in a position where the sun visor won't bump its buttons when the sun visor is down. Also see the instructions on YouTube about how to install the vibration damping pads (supplied but not explained in the instructions).
Far exceeded expectations! – This review is for the A119S which I gave to my husband for Christmas and it's such a great camera. I did a lot of research before I bought it and thanks to Product Review it ticks all the boxes. I went with the optional GPS built in mount to complete the package. The vision is crystal clear, wide angle and sound is great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one and I've dropped blatant hints for my birthday.
Caution – Brilliant picture, crystal clear with excellent night vision - my first unit was subject to endless faults and needing replacement after 3 months. The exchange was carried without any problems and the replacement unit works well. Setting up is relatively easy, however I am still slowly working through all the various options.
Unreliable – Note: this is the A119, not the A119S. I bought two of these cameras back in February 2017, based on the good reviews I had seen. The picture quality is very good, and the night vision is also very good. The gps stamps speed, time and coordinates, making it quite useful for evidence following an accident. A crash sensor ensures that the file is… Read more

After 5 months, while on a 2-month extended road trip, it started playing up; The screen would flicker and it would reset itself and save an unreadable file to the SD card. Unplugging it and reconnecting it would fix the problem for a while, but after a couple of weeks, it started playing up continuously, resetting every 30 seconds. On my return from the trip, I contacted Zapals, but they rejected the claim as out of warranty (6 months). I offered to send the corrupted files as proof of failure before the finish of the warranty, but they were firm. It's a bin job now. Hope the other one keeps working.
