I thought my cold sore was just getting worse but ultimately realised that this product was causing more damage than it was healing. Ice helped but I thought my lips were on fire and I was struggling to talk due to the swelling. If you are in pain maybe just halt using this in case you are having a reaction to it. Show details

Works quickly – I’m surprised by the negative reviews. Zovirax doesn’t work particularly well for me. I remember using Virasolve many years ago and bought it again last year when I saw it at the chemist. Worked a treat and now I won’t buy anything else

Idoxuridine has been found to be just as effective as Aciclovir in treating cold sores in double blind studies. Virasolve will definitely be my treatment of choice for future outbreaks.

Sad mistake – Low on zovirax, I was hooked by the price, larger tube and lignocaine for numbing. Oh regret! I use benzalkonium chloride to kill lichen. Sure I've seen it in sanitisers too. I shouldn't have rubbed Benz. Chloride into a delicate area. Thank goodness for my remaining zovirax while chemist is closed for cmas. 2 days later and coldsore is clearing up normally. BTW I see a 5star review saying studies show idoxuridine performed same as acyclovir (zovirax) - the comparative studies I've just googled are for corneal infections not for cold sores. (Herpes simplex keratitus is not a cold sore).

agent. I saw horrible reviews on this cream and a few hours later I had to agree. My sore is now multiple sores much bigger and very painful. I can’t drink or eat. Normally I get one sore that is barely even visible to anyone and my sores go away rather quickly.

I’ll never use this again, I was better off with nothing at all. I feel like this stuff was made to feed cold sores and make them grow.

The best I’ve used – I have been using this product for years and it works the best. I’ve tried other brands and other than take medication for my severe outbreaks I feel it’s above the rest. The key to using any cold sore product will depend on when you start using it. my lips and face was swollen on the one side and I felt super lethargic. The sores had spread and are bigger on my lips. My other cold sore reactions were nothing like this so I stopped using Virasolve and have now found these reviews. Thank you for sharing.

Terrible – DO NOT BUY My small cold sore was about half a centimetre and already at the weeping stage. A pharmacist recommended this to speed up healing and it’s now an inch in length across my bottom lip! Very upset :( Show details

Use it if you want the worst coldsore of your life! – This is the worst thing I've ever used on a cold sore. It ended up being the biggest coldsore I've ever had - I'm sure the cream made it spread as I ended up with another one right next to the first. Terrible is an understatement – I never leave reviews however after using this product I just need to. This cream is the worst. I woke up this morning to my whole top lip swollen and after using the cream again throughout the day today it has gotten bigger and sore. I will never use this product again. greedy and saw that this tube contained 5g compared to Zovirax 2g for half the price. So i figured i would try it, it would be great value if i could start using this instead of Zovirax to save some money. Never again!!! Save yourself before saving money my dear readers!! I only ever used to get a tiny cold sore on my bottom lip, now after using virasolve, I get them on every part of my lips top and bottom and my chin!! Once you get a cold sore in a new spot, its with you for life. I no longer know where my new cold sore will start, because my whole lup and chin tingles. So now, I have to apply zovirax all over my mouth and chin. My little effort to save money by swapping brands has caused me to spend more money covering more spots. I’m so upset. I get cold sores one after another now because one spot infects another spot etc etc. Zovirax works great to tame it, but the damage is already done by virasolve spreading the cold sore all over my mouth and chin. Worst product, Ever! AVOID...this cream is fatal – I got a cold sore two weeks ago..I was recommended Virosolve from the chemist...I started using it and the sore stated to get worse, spreading down my chin.Then big scabs appeared and started cracking and bleeding..TThen another three blisters popped up around it all...It is still with me and looks like i have a burn on my face..I would NOT recOmmend this cream to anyone...If i could give no stars i would....AVOID AT ALL COSTS Show details

Dangerous – This product should not even get a star. I had a manageable cold sore. Chemist recommended virasolve. Never buy it again – I bought this product because I realised the cream I was using was out of date. first I thought it must have just been another small blister coming out, but within 36 hours (Tuesday night to Thursday morning) I had ongoing intense pain, triple the swelling and multiple burn like blisters not only on my lip, but spilling down my chin. Needless to say I washed it off this morning and WILL NOT EVER use it again! I'm so upset. I don't know when this monstrosity will heal; it still seems to be spreading and it's very painful. I've taken Edovir tablets (expensive) in the hope of stopping it getting any worse, even though tablets are suppose to be taken at the first sign of onset. Crossing my fingers and praying. Works well – I have used the Virasolve product every winter for many years on a cold sore on my lip, with great success. as soon as I feel the tingling in the lip I get the little tube and apply some. is applied quickly after the tingling feeling, it prevents a breakout into a sore. my tube must be well out of code but still helps the problem. There are other products that have Aciclovir in them that are also OK. This product has a very good applicator nozzle.

DON'T USE – I was recommended to use this product by the pharmarsist( I usually use zovirax)... before using the product the coldsore was small and in it's very early stages. I woke up the next day with swallen and white puss-like lips, the product had spread the coldsore everywhere and made it ten times worse. What would have taken 4 days to heal will now take 3 weeks. Not for me – It irritated my sore and caused pain - never happened with other cold sore products before. My sore weeped for much longer than usual & wouldn’t scab until I stopped applying the cream. It prevented the normal scabbing period so now (6 weeks later) I still have scarring on the places where I applied the cream. Show details

They are extremely sore and swollen, I think if you only apply to the effective area it does the job.
