In the heart of Sydney's bustling CBD, hidden away in a small enclave of Japanese eateries, across from Sydney's Town Hall, behind KFC. Just like being in Japan, great choices from casual to higher end. Yebisu sits above the most, yet is popularly priced at around $25 - $30pp. Seating is a mixture of single tables and booth style, accommodating couples or larger groups of 10 or more. The menu is high tech, presented on a tablet, and quite easy to use, even for this almost 70yo customer! There was a special lunch menu around $25 and you get a traditional Sukiyaki, served with fried tempura vegetable, fried tofu, pickled seaweed, rice, and an absolutely beautiful miso soup with those white thin mushrooms etc. I ordered from the a la carte, and had the Yakitori Chicken, served with the same tempura veg and tofu, and that delicious soup and rice. The chicken was grilled to perfection, moist, tender, and lightly marinated. It was screaming freshness. Honestly, the best Yakitori Chicken I've ever had....and I've tried plenty! The quality of the meal was evident. after ordering, it was at least 10 minutes before our meals arrived. Everything was fresh, presented professionally, and of course, super yummy. It may not be enough food for the manual laborers out there, but for the average office worker, (and 70 yo), it was spot on. My new favourite eatery in Sydney CBD. Oh and did I mention the music? I heard my fav girl band member Hanni Pham (New Jeans) singing a Japanese standard.
