Quiet and reliable – Very happy, can leave on all night and no sound. Obviously at higher speeds there is sound but for sleeping the lower speeds are pefectly adequare for those hot humid nights. So quiet that it is easy to accidently leave on all day. I purchased it from David Jones on sale but cannot remember the price. However, I was so pleased with it I bought a Vornado heater from them as well during winter the following year.

Amazing fan – I'm a huge fan ( :D ) of this fan. It can do the whole range, from whisper quiet with a solid breeze, to a ridiculously powerful wind. It does the job fantastically. At all volumes, it feels like the only thing you hear is the wind itself, and at very tolerable frequencies, rather than many other fans which can make high pitched / whirring noises. One small hiccup was quickly fixed by customer service extremely quickly, which was really appreciated.
Very effective for such a small fan – This review is for the Vornado 533DC Energy Smart model which is very efficient and should not be confused with cheaper normal AC model. This tiny fan produces a long jet of air movement even at moderate speeds. Placed on the floor in the door way to my bedroom aimed at the opposite ceiling corner provides gentle pleasant air movement that keeps me comfortable all night while moving fresh air into a room via the only opening which is the doorway it is sitting in. Compact, only measuring about 30cm high and 23cm wide is light and easy to position and operate. Economical to run see image showing usage at 4.2 watts with speed at about 1/3 which is enough for my usage as described above.
At low speeds it is pretty quiet, but at high speeds will make some noise just like any other fan will but can move a massive amount of air a very long distance.
If these improvements I have listed below where included I'd give 5 stars instead of 4 given the price of $180AUD and 5 year warranty.
1. Control knob can accidentally be moved. Inclusion of a light fine ratchet mechanism to provide positive feel and prevent accidental change of speed would be good.
2. Control knob dial needs number markings instead of the useless graduated line, so reuse of desired speed can be selected easily. I modified mine and put some markers on the dial for quick reference to speeds I prefer to use.
3. Separate on/off switch so that pre-selected speed is already set instead of the need to re-select the speed every time it is turned on because the on/off switch is combined in speed selector.
4. Cord colour is GREY which is just wrong on a white appliance and looks ugly. Cord and plug should match the colour of the appliance.
5. No cord storage so inclusion of a cord tidy like two lugs on the back would be a handy feature to wind the cord around.
