Very disappointing experience with membership rollover and cancellation Our experience with Goodlife's membership and cancellation process has been extremely disappointing. My daughter had what she understood to be a 12-month membership and recalls taking steps to cancel around May. Months later, we discovered that weekly membership payments had… Read more
continued to be deducted.
When we contacted Goodlife seeking an explanation and refund, we were told that the membership was an “ongoing membership” and had automatically continued beyond its minimum term. Goodlife refused a refund and advised that a 30-day cancellation period would instead apply from the recent cancellation request.
This raised a further concern for us. Queensland's Fitness Industry Code contains specific requirements for ongoing agreements, including written notice at least two months before the initial term ends stating when the initial term ends and that the agreement will continue until terminated.
My daughter does not recall receiving that notice, so we asked Goodlife to provide evidence of the relevant agreement and notice.
The Club Manager ultimately told us Goodlife's position remained unchanged and that they would not enter into further correspondence or debate regarding the interpretation of the membership terms.
We have now lodged a formal complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading and asked that these issues be considered. To be clear, OFT has not yet determined whether Goodlife complied with its obligations.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, I have found the experience incredibly frustrating. When a consumer disputes months of continuing deductions, I would expect the business to clearly produce the relevant membership documentation and communications rather than simply refer the consumer back to its terms and close down further discussion.
Dodgy and unfair contract terms. The ACCC really needs to investigate and shut down this operation. The gym is also not worth the fees, which they probably realise and so try to lock people into terms and then add on bogus service charges. The sooner they are prosecuted the better. Every customer who In unhappy with their misleading and fraudulent conduct should also report them to ACCC and fair trading.
THINK TWICE BEFORE SIGNING UP WITH GOODLIFE – MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE “7-BUSINESS-DAY COOLING-OFF PERIOD" If you are considering joining Goodlife because they offer a 7-business-day cooling-off period, I strongly recommend that you think carefully and understand the cancellation process before handing over your payment details. Goodlife on 25 August 2026. Just two days later, on 27 August, I contacted them by phone and clearly told them that I wanted to cancel my membership within the cooling-off period. I was told that someone would contact me on the 29 of August at 10.00am to confirm the cancellation. They never called. What makes this concerning is that my partner had almost exactly the same experience. She also contacted Goodlife on 26 August, just one day after joining, to cancel her membership within the cooling-off period. She was promised an email confirming the cancellation, but that email never came. She then personally attended the Richlands club on 28 August to follow up and cancel her membership. Once again, she was unable to get the membership cancelled and was given explanations about the “accounts team” and all sort of other reasons which it did even makes sense for a simple cooling off period cancellation request. What concerns me even more is that Goodlife Richlands had already charged our account a few days ago, even though, at the time of writing this review, I am still well within the 7-business-day cooling-off period. I find this extremely disappointing and concerning. If you're thinking about joining Goodlife, please think twice and make sure you fully understand how the cancellation process works before providing your payment details. DON'T JUST TAKE THE “7-DAY COOLING-OFF PERIOD” AT FACE VALUE — ASK QUESTIONS AND KEEP RECORDS OF EVERYTHING. Goodlife needs to seriously reconsider the way it handles customers who try to cancel during the cooling-off period. From my experience, the process has been unnecessarily difficult, frustrating and, quite frankly, very questionable. I hope this review helps someone else avoid going through the same experience.

Shared my link for 7 day free pass for my friend and according to goodlife terms its commitment free and if they become a member I get 2 weeks free on my own membership. Goodlife yeerongpilly staff instead told me my friend needs to sign up to a full membership and then can cancel within the first 7 days for free. That is not what the free pass… Read more
terms are and they aren't honouring the terms of the promotions they have. Disappointed with my experience.
Expensive, basic overpriced gym. They have no customer service or anyone you can contact when you can’t get it ( even though your paying a high overpriced amount) Personally you should join other gyms that have extra services and customer service. I stupidly joined for 3 months, couldn’t get into the club for the first 5 days as they didn’t set my account up correctly but were happy to take my money.
Poor management and lack of professionalism. Communication was frustrating, and issues were handled badly. Toilets often smelled and basic hygiene items weren’t maintained — broken vanity (photo taken today) and hand soap frequently not refilled. Equipment was limited, and the pool wasn’t very clean. Not worth the money. Better gyms around.
They drained my bank account – I signed up at Goodlife Cannington in 2023. I had been with them for a few months and needed to update my payment method which I did and was told by the staff member that everything was saved and there was nothing else I needed to do. A few weeks later they called me saying that the direct debits had not been working. I went into the club and… Read more
spoke to the receptionist who told me I had a massive debt of something like $600. I asked her how I had racked up so much debt in a few weeks and she explained that Goodlife use a debt collection agency for all of their payments. She said I needed to contact them if I wanted to talk to them about my account. Getting hold of them by phone was impossible as they leave you on hold for hours. I called Goodlife again asking to speak to someone who could help me and they refused to let me speak to anyone. I asked for the club managers contact details and was told that is ‘confidential’. They wouldn’t even give me a first name. It took several days to sort out the issue and I ended up paying several hundred dollars for something that was Goodlifes fault. I am still a member as I am locked in for 12 months and the club is a mess. Toilet paper everywhere in the bathrooms. There is water all of the floor and all around the sink. The locks on the lockers have been broken for 6 months. There are no paper towels to wipe down equipment. There are signs on the walls threatening members with fines if they don’t put equipment back. The general feeling is that all of those members are hostages being held against their will.

Exceptional service and state of the Art Gym, staff are very helpful and extremely friendly
In general Goodlife Mermaid and Burleigh are well run and staff all very friendly. For the most part Burleigh in particular is kept very clean. Machines are not often not able to be used due to waiting a repair and are also well maintained. Music is great and uplifting. The gym appears to cater for the vast majority of people from the very young… Read more
of both sexes to elderly and of course some disabled. If help is needed then it is not far away. The pool is used for members and children's lessons at set times, but lanes set apart for members if they are on. My only complaint is the pool has remained a bit cool just under 30c for a couple of weeks now. All in all well run and a safe nurturing environment.
After 30+ years at another club, I'm glad I made the change – Very friendly professional instructors who are engaged and helpful. Easy to park and access classes with no need to book.

South Melbourne Goodlife - The gym itself is okay, however the Manager and Staff are a breed of their own, Princesses on the front desk turning their nose up at you, and dare not ask them a question. I left this gym even though it was closer to me their attitude is terrible and Manager just backs his staff and does not even know facts. None of… Read more

It has been over 2 months I’m waiting for a refund where they sneakily added a PT package when I signed up. I questioned the amount before finishing signing up and the sales person was not able to tell what that amount was in regards of and guaranteed I would not been charged anything than the weekly fee. When I checked my email it said I had… Read more
purchased the PT package, I immediately sent an email to cancel the package on the same day and I was once again guaranteed by the staff that it had been cancelled.
I was charged the amount a few weeks after and again I emailed the team which told me they would be waive 3 weeks of my gym fee. That never happened, I asked them again and they said they would prioritise with the billing company. I never heard back, no one ever called me, still normally charged and they pocketed the money. 2 MONTHS of conversation and they are not capable to refund me.
I had intended to open a gym membership with Goodlife Morningside and take advantage of a 2 week promotional free access. Instead they started the billing before the 2 weeks free trial and then had to be reminded twice to cancel my membership as their word cannot be trusted. Be very careful dealing with their staff and read the fine print of the agreement.

Carindale club gets 0 stars but no 0 option . Management have no idea how to run a business. Stitch you up with fees left right and centre. Reception are just as confused as the manager . Do not go to this gym!!
I had a very disappointing experience regarding the cancellation of my 7-day free trial at Goodlife Health Clubs Richlands. Goodlife Health Clubs Richlands is located at 144 Pine Rd, Richlands QLD 4077 and operates under ABN 59 120 953 200. I requested cancellation of my trial on day 1 and followed up with multiple staff on several occasions… Read more
over the following days. Despite these requests, I did not receive confirmation that the cancellation had been processed during the trial period, and I was advised by the direct debit provider that no cancellation request had been received at that time.
I also followed up over the phone with staff to clarify the status of my cancellation. At the time of writing, I am still awaiting written confirmation that my trial has been cancelled.
My concern is mainly around communication and the handling of cancellation requests, particularly ensuring they are processed and confirmed within the stated trial period.
If this matter is not resolved, I will consider escalating it to Queensland Fair Trading for review.
Everything they do is to squeeze out as many dollars as they can while providing subpar facilities. Beware also if you wish to cancel they charge you for another 30 day period from there
Such a vile company, I've done alot for them over the 15 years I've been with them and want to know my thanks? I have not been able to go to the gym for the last 6 months because of a serious infection that ruined my life. I enquired about putting the account on hold, but was told only two weeks. I did not want to cancel my membership because I… Read more
was always hoping to get better and come back. I politely asked GL if there was anything they could do, emailing their head office directly. They seemed like they were going to help, requesting my membership details and account, then later said they would do nothing and that it's just too bad. Really shakes your faith in humanity and makes you want to betray everyone in the future no matter what it costs them, all the world is, is people who are directly from hell, i'll be sure to send you back.
I have been doing excercise physiology at the Robina gym for over 12 months and have had a very poor experience with the staff from victory allied health and their managers ,which has totally destroyed my well being and self esteem , I find them very rude , selfish and arrogant and in some cases very poorly trained with no empathy or… Read more
understanding of the ex military community I feel very very unwelcome and used, only for their benefit , I am voting with my feet , and taking my funding to another program , run by veterans , run for veterans , there’s plenty of room for improvement at goodlife Robina , and there is a definite need for improvement at victory allied health at goodlife gym Robina
Went on 4th March Wednesday to cancel my and my daughter's membership ( I pay for her membership). Very rude man said it had to go to the manager who wasn't there and it would be early the next week as he ( the rude man) wouldn't be there to pass on the message. Another $80 has been taken out of my account since then, i rang today 16 March and the lady processed it over the phone but would not take into account the extra $80 they took.

Unfortunately process of cancelling membership was complex and problematic. Under WA law you can cancel by letter or email and you do not need to ring/use online form which Goodlife directs you towards and for which you have no record/proof of cancellation.
I strongly advise people to avoid signing up for this gym. My experience has been extremely frustrating due to their lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic customer care. me again for an additional week, even though I had not been using the gym for a very long time duer to my medical condition. This was done after my written notice, which I find completely unacceptable and highly unethical. It felt like my request was simply ignored and that there was no respect for the customer whatsoever.
The equipment is outdated and in serious need of upgrades, yet there seems to be little effort to improve the facility. The gym is also consistently overcrowded, and most of the time you end up waiting just to use basic equipment, which makes the experience even worse. Their contract terms are extremely restrictive. Once you sign up, getting out of the contract becomes unnecessarily difficult unless you agree to additional fees, which feels designed to keep customers locked into the billing cycle rather than provide a fair service.
During my membership, I had to undergo hernia surgery, and my doctor specifically advised me to avoid the gym for at least 8 weeks. Instead of showing any compassion or flexibility given the medical situation, the gym remained focused only on continuing to charge fees. Even when I requested a waiver, they demanded additional documentation rather than showing any reasonable understanding.
Overall, I deeply regret signing up. My experience suggests that this gym prioritizes collecting payments over customer care, fairness, or basic professionalism.
I would not recommend this gym to anyone.
I’ll give you a favour and tell plainly that don’t sign up for this gym. They have hidden costs, keep pushing cancellation dates and still charging you for any non-sense things they didn’t mention during sign-up because they’re only interested in signing up. After sign-up nobody cares about you. The equipment is also old and needs upgrade but they… Read more
don’t care. And it’s too crowded whenever you go. You need to wait most of the time for your turn. I regret signing up to this gym and it’s hard to get out as they find a reason to keep you in the billing cycle. Just do a favour for yourself and find another gym.
I cancelled my membership at Goodlife Health Clubs Point Cook due to repeated safety concerns and how they were handled. front of the manager, Ben, which I experienced as a threat. Despite this, I was advised to move rather than the behaviour being addressed. The condescending, defensive, disinterested comments and lack of duty of care from the Point Cook club manager was horrific. I contacted head office afterwards and received no response. While the reception staff have always been courteous and friendly, the lack of accountability around member safety was extremely disappointing. If zero stars were an option, that would reflect my experience.
Very disappointed in the ways it is managed. Instructors gave inconsistent information. Very inflexible and schedules are not suitable for people who need a workout right after work.
If I could give a zero I would, have been trying for a week to cancel my membership and I keep getting the run around. Told to go in, I go in told to email, no one replies to the email. Call they say they will action and email and NOTHING! Don't join GoodLife unless you want to be a member FOR LIFE!
WARNING about “Free Trial” Gym Memberships (Goodlife) Be very careful signing up for “free trials.” I joined a 1-week free trial at Goodlife, was told I could cancel within the week and no money would be taken. cancelled, and they said it was cancelled and I would get a refund.
Refund still hasn’t been given, and another payment $26.39 was taken anyway after cancellation.
This is not what “free trial” means.
Check your bank account closely, don’t rely on verbal promises, and make sure you have proof of cancellation. Linking your bank account for a “trial” can still end with money being taken.
Crooks. I signed a 3 month contract only. They extended my contract without my approval, even after I requested for it to be cancelled and had stopped going. The Burleigh Waters centre is old, rundown, dirty and equipment is falling apart. Disgusting
