side said they will get someone to call me back as they don't know the procedure (yeah right, more likely adniring female clients exercising). Last week i was told that my membership was overdue by 1 month i rang and state that i advised the account close and someone was going to call me back, since i rang then i never attended the gym again so it was a shock to me. Apparently they gym did not cancel the membership and kept collecting money which i didn't know as i rarely check my statement and it come from a seperate bills account. I was told that they will apply the 1 month fee even after getting almost 2 years of fees when it was supposed to be cancel. I an looking at consulting lawyers and if there is sufficient people in the same position will start an class action suit because Anytime Fitness should employ staff with enough intelligence and common sense to know what to do or ask question and obtain the knowledge.

issues with the machines but everytime I have enquired about this there has always been follow up. Love the fact that management responds to all negative reviews and have full details regarding the people who have submitted them who are/have done something dodgy. Reception is fine they are busy so understand that they don't really have the time to greet every single person walking in and out of the place. Have never found any issues. You can just go about your business and do your workout and leave which I love.

hand over money.
I was in Sydney for a month so used this as my gym. When signing up to the contract, I was told that the fob payment is refundable when you bring it back (30AUD - see screenshots). To be sure that everything was to go smoothly as I was flying out of town, I sent an email to the gym to ask about fob return to make it easier for them. No response - even though it was 13 days before the end of contract. The staffed gym hours are untrue, when I went to return my fob on two occasions before my contract ended there was nobody there for my whole hour long workout both times. When I went to the gym most recently to return the fob there was nobody on the desk for 30 minutes and just a scrappy sheet of paper asking to call a mobile number if nobody is about, without an Aussie number I couldn’t call so had to wait. As soon as the old man working there finally came back I was met with an aggressive response to requesting the fob refund and told that the fob return rules were made clear to me - apparently (and not in writing) you must return the fob with an active membership in order to receive your fob return money. I’ve included the contract that Broadway Gym use below which states nothing about the fob return policy, so this is how they make an extra bit of cash from members. It is only 30AUD, but the behaviour of the older man working there was quite shocking.
It is clear why this is one of the cheapest gym in Sydney, staff are never there and the gym is left to manage itself, but I just want others to be aware of this scam so this gym doesn’t extract extra cash from future or current members.

charged $150.00 regarding multiple tailgating allegations, without receiving any prior email reminder or notice. When I raised this, I was met with confrontational and unprofessional messages from staff instead of a proper resolution. Dates informed were incorrect ( as I did NOT attend the gym for 2 weeks due to a death on of a family member followed by sickness ) and the multiple videos were never provided.
Misleading sales tactics: When I signed up, a manager told me the outdated equipment would be replaced with new machines. This never happened, months later the same worn-out equipment is still there. I feel this was used purely as a sales pitch to get me to commit to a membership.
Facility issues:
There is no proper stretching area, making it difficult to warm up or cool down safely. The fan system is defective, gym members often fell off chairs while trying to manually turn the fan on because the controls don't work properly. This is a real safety hazard that hasn't been addressed. Air Conditioners also do not work properly.
Customer service: Staff have been dismissive when issues are raised, and management does not respond or follow up on complaints. It feels like once you've signed the contract, they stop caring about your experience.
Overall, poor communication, broken promises, safety hazards, and unprofessional conduct. I'd think twice before joining.

was incorrectly charged for two personal training sessions that I never attended, yet despite multiple follow-ups, South Pacific has refused to correct their mistake. After providing clear proof of the incorrect charges—including bank statements—they continued to dodge responsibility, claiming they "couldn’t confirm" whether they actually owed me money.
To make matters worse, even after cancelling my membership, they continued to debit my account. When I raised this issue, I was met with the same dismissive attitude and lack of action.
This gym's management clearly prioritizes squeezing extra dollars out of unsuspecting customers over ethical business practices. If you sign up, be prepared for billing "errors" that they will refuse to fix.
There are plenty of reputable gyms out there—do yourself a favour and stay far away from this one.

approachable and friendly, and I appreciate them. But most of them come across as unapproachable and honestly a bit up themselves.
I get that a trainer needs to focus on their own client and shouldn't be distracted mid-session, that's fair. But for members who are on the gym floor regularly and not their client, a basic hello or acknowledgment shouldn't be too much to ask.
This is a customer-facing role, and it feels like some of the PTs treat that as optional, and it changes the vibe of the whole gym floor.
I've trained at other gyms where the staff are completely different, genuinely approachable, engaging, and happy to say hello, and it's a stark contrast.

strong infrastructure undermined by inconsistent operational execution.
The facility itself is well equipped and aligns with what one would expect from a premium fitness brand. On that basis, the product offering is fundamentally sound.
However, the customer journey exposed a meaningful gap between brand positioning and frontline delivery.
After completing a short-term introductory arrangement and receiving a discretionary extension from the club manager, I returned to request a further brief extension due to a simple administrative misunderstanding. I arrived in good faith, having already indicated clear intent to convert into a long-term membership.
With the club manager on leave, the acting staff member provided no escalation pathway, no discretionary consideration, and no attempt to retain a prospective long-term member. The only options presented were payment for a day pass or leaving the facility.
From a customer experience standpoint, this reflects a lack of empowered decision-making at the point of contact, particularly in non-material, retention-sensitive scenarios. For a premium membership model, this is a significant operational gap.
Additional observations include inconsistent equipment availability due to machines being out of service for extended periods, as well as general maintenance standards that do not consistently reflect the premium positioning of the brand.
In summary, the infrastructure is strong, but the service execution and customer retention approach do not yet align with the expectations set by the pricing and brand positioning.
For a premium fitness operator, consistency in empowerment, responsiveness, and service recovery is not optional—it is the product.

went mainly because of weight issues, and while it helped, it was never something I looked forward to.
That all changed a year ago when I joined Alive Health & Fitness in Narrabundah, ACT. I absolutely love going in and training now. Every time I step through the doors, I’m greeted with a smile, and most of the staff know my name — which makes it feel so special. I genuinely feel like part of the gym family.
The staff here are exceptional, and I’m so grateful to them for making every visit start with a smile. I even challenged myself to try a couple of group classes — and OMG, Rachel (3D30) and Janelle (Power) are amazing instructors! I’m officially hooked and will be attending more of their classes for sure.
Alive Health & Fitness is hands down the best gym I’ve ever been to — and I’ve been to a lot.
Thanks, team. Raf

The gym side is pretty good with alot of machines and free weights with almost anything you could need for a great workout. Although alot of the machines are usually out of order they do have them. Haven't been to a class so can't comment on them but I have heard a few people saying they are great.
I think for the premium price you pay for fitness first the it should be better. Feels like it's gotten to big and forgot about the customers.

extremely disappointing.
My daughter had what she understood to be a 12-month membership and recalls taking steps to cancel around May. Months later, we discovered that weekly membership payments had continued to be deducted.
When we contacted Goodlife seeking an explanation and refund, we were told that the membership was an “ongoing membership” and had automatically continued beyond its minimum term. Goodlife refused a refund and advised that a 30-day cancellation period would instead apply from the recent cancellation request.
This raised a further concern for us. Queensland's Fitness Industry Code contains specific requirements for ongoing agreements, including written notice at least two months before the initial term ends stating when the initial term ends and that the agreement will continue until terminated.
My daughter does not recall receiving that notice, so we asked Goodlife to provide evidence of the relevant agreement and notice.
The Club Manager ultimately told us Goodlife's position remained unchanged and that they would not enter into further correspondence or debate regarding the interpretation of the membership terms.
We have now lodged a formal complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading and asked that these issues be considered. To be clear, OFT has not yet determined whether Goodlife complied with its obligations.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, I have found the experience incredibly frustrating. When a consumer disputes months of continuing deductions, I would expect the business to clearly produce the relevant membership documentation and communications rather than simply refer the consumer back to its terms and close down further discussion.
