 AI reviews summary

Overall sentiment for Happy Valley Seeds is highly positive, with most customers praising the extensive variety of heirloom and specialty seeds, competitive pricing, and successful germination rates. While a small segment of users reported issues with non-germinating seeds or delivery disputes, the majority of long-term and hobbyist gardeners describe the service as reliable, professional, and efficient.

Pros
  • Exceptional Variety and Range: Users frequently highlight the massive selection of seeds, bulbs, and tubers, including rare medicinal herbs, diverse garlic varieties, and specialty heirloom vegetables not found in standard stores.
  • High Germination Success: Most reports indicate strong "strike rates" and healthy, vigorous plant growth across a wide range of climates, from sub-tropical Queensland to cold Victorian winters.
  • Efficient Shipping and Value: Delivery is consistently described as prompt and well-packaged, with several mentions of the "capped postage" being excellent value for heavy orders like seed potatoes.
  • Informative Resources: The website is praised for its ease of use and the inclusion of clear, detailed growing guides and planting instructions that assist both beginners and experienced gardeners.
Cons
  • Packaging Limitations: A recurring complaint concerns the small, opaque white plastic sachets, which some users find difficult to open and impossible to reseal without additional tools like paper clips.
  • Variable Germination for Specific Varieties: While overall rates are high, multiple users reported total failure with specific seeds such as Marigolds, herbs, and certain chilli varieties.
  • Inconsistent Customer Service: While many found staff helpful, a significant minority reported defensive or unhelpful responses when reporting failures, with some feeling "gaslit" or blamed for poor results.
  • Variety Accuracy Issues: A few users noted receiving incorrect species, specifically citing Shiso seeds that grew as Korean Perilla or "mystery herbs" that did not match the ordered variety.
Verdict

Happy Valley Seeds is a highly regarded supplier for gardeners seeking a broad and unique selection of quality seeds at fair prices. While there are occasional reports of germination failure and rigid customer service regarding refunds, the overwhelming consensus points to a reliable service with high-performing products.

Love my Kipler potatoes. As a kid I cursed my dad for making us kids pick the spuds while our friends were out having fun. I can thank him now as I appreciate growing them myself and enjoying the pickings .

Dear Happy Valley Seeds Team, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional quality of the Tulsi (Holy Basil) seeds I recently purchased from you. I had been searching everywhere for this specific plant, as I truly believe Tulsi is a symbol of peace and spiritual well-being. It was very important to me to have its calming… Read more

presence in my home garden. To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about whether it would grow on my balcony, as it receives no direct sunlight. Most guides suggest that Tulsi requires several hours of sun to survive, but your seeds have proven to be incredibly resilient. Despite the lack of direct light, my Tulsi has not only survived but is genuinely thriving. I have also attached a video with this email. Thank you for providing such high-quality heirloom seeds that have allowed me to bring a piece of peace and greenery into my space. I will certainly be recommending Happy Valley Seeds to my fellow gardening enthusiasts! Warm regards,

A very wide range. Easy to use website. Quick shipping. Very reasonable prices. Some of the little plastic baggies are a bit of a pain, but they are well-sealed and can be resealed with an old-fashioned paper clip. I think Happy Valley Seeds provides an invaluable service to gardeners. Thanks

Follow-up  · I would like to report an excellent strike rate, as good if not better than any other seeds on the market. Oregano and Parsley all over the place. I tried a different variety of rocket. which was probably not as prolific as others I have tried, a bit lacking in peppery flavour, but there they are still offering a few leaves for the occasional… Read more

Dear Happy Valley Seeds, I purchased seeds for Redland Pioneer beans, two types of zucchini, little finger eggplants and golden nugget pumpkins from you in Spring 2025. Beans and zucchini were a success. But the eggplants were something else again. I germinated them in small pots in a shade house, planted them out as seedlings, and I have… Read more ·  1

never had a crop of egg plants like this. I just could not keep up with the supply, despite giving them away to friends and neighbours. But what has impressed me even more is that four weeks ago, as remaining fruit had turned brown and plants looked past their best, I cut them back hard, just leaving upper branches with flowers, fed and watered them, and a second and almost equally impressive crop grew in just a few weeks. I attach a few photos to show you this second crop. My one failure were the golden nugget pumpkins. They grew fine and looked healthy, same garden patch as the other veggies, but produced absolutely no fruit. Not one. Would appreciate any feedback you might have about what might have caused this failure. I've ordered with you again since Spring '25 and will certainly be doing so later in the year.

Don't waste your money. Attatched are photos of the obvious poor quality of Marigold and a photo of 2 separate piles. Had to repackage all seeds as they skimp out on resealable bags. The top pile in the photo are all non-viable seeds, whereas the bottom pile all sprouted at least 3/5 seeds. They will give you $1.86 back, without requesting and… Read more

think that will make everything ok. $1.86 doesn't cover the countless other failed varieties. Absolute scam. I tried to sprout 'fresh marigold seeds' from Happy Valley's lot. Absolutely 0/10 sprouted while all but 1 of my old leftover batch from another company sprouted and grew strong. Happy Valley tried saying it was my fault and that it was the wrong time of weather. Pfft. Wrong weather? They're indoors not even sprouted. The weather only really matters when you put them outside to grow up, except the cold strat seeds. Further more, why did the other company's work if it was the wrong weather? Happy Valley lies and cheats people of their money. The company will add some kind of comment to rectify their errors. Buy elsewhere. Anywhere but here. Buying overseas would be better even. Multiple quick and easy varieties did not sprout from this company. Other failed seeds include fava beans, dandelion. Only 2 out of 10 eggplant worked. Happy Valley sells seeds that are old and dead. Buy bulk from suppliers instead. Sell what you won't use, make a little money. Don't support these thieves. They try make you 2nd guess yourself, like a narcisst gaslights their victims. $1.86 refund for 15+ packets of failed seeds. Bought around 40 varieties. Not 1 whole packet should fail from a seed company. Maybe a few seeds within the pack, but definitely not every seed that gets sown.

Gave them 3 reasonable options to rectify the dead seeds. 1) 7 fresh viable packets 2) 30% refund 3) full refund and seeds returned

I laugh. 1) They said that's too many packets (far less than half of my non-viable varieties) 2) They said not offering a 30% refund and call me unreasonable when they offer a measley $1.86 and about 30% of the packs were dead , plus the 1st request was simply live seeds. 3) They said seeds have to be sealed in original packaging.

You can't reason with them. They had a pop-up special which was nothing more than a sceme to get rid of mostly dead seeds.

And finally the $1.86 refund was not requested. I only wanted what I was supposed to have paid for. Who knows how many people this person has scammed.

I'd love to name some good quality companies that I have purchased from but I don't think I should put good names in a bad review. Good luck finding a trustworthy company to purchase from and happy holidays

Love their heirloom seeds choice! – I am totally obsessed with these incredible heirloom seeds! It brings me so much joy to see the beautiful array of colours when I harvest carrots. They are easier to grow than I thought. Happy Valley Seeds' had a decent 75% to 85% germination success rate, and these carrot seeds didn't disappoint. Although, it's too early to judge the flavours,… Read more ·  1

they are growing happily and healthy, despite some nibbling from critters. I was a complete beginner when it came to growing corn, but I was amazed by how quickly these corn heirloom mix seeds sprouted on a cozy heatmat - about 80% germination rate. Now, some of the corn plants are towering over 3m tall with multiple cobs. I am buzzing with excitement to taste the mouthwatering results. But that's not all - I also got my hands on some awesome heirloom chilli mix, which is flowering and about to produce chillies - can't wait to taste them, cauliflower (saving for autumn), and spinach seeds. I harvested spinach in spring and let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! And the best part? It's completely spray-free! I would be a repeat customer and will recommend this company to my loved ones as the seeds are of good quality and quite affordable.

Hello and thank you for asking. All the seeds I planted have propagated. I'm a novice gardener in a new garden, so I'm still learning how the sun hits the gardens. I don't expect a big yield because I've had too much rain, and some pest issues. I aim to get a few chooks in spring to clean up the pests and fertilise. I will buy all my seeds from… Read more

you because you have a huge variety of seeds and trustworthy delivery. For example, my first order took a couple of weeks to arrive, but it gave the soil I turned and fertilized two weeks to blend; and it reminded me of the patience required to grow food. My next order of seeds arrived super fast and allowed me to get them in the ground before it got too cold. You guys are amazing. Thank you for providing the opportunity for me to grow food for my family.
