Living in an apartment, we bought the Ionmax Ion632 primarily to dry some of our washing as we didn’t want to throw it in the clothes drier all the time because it is pretty hard on some fabrics. We are very happy with its performance in getting the job done. As well, it heats up the room to some extent - a bonus in winter - and is economical to… Read more ·  1

run compared with the clothes drier.

The Ironmax is a compact unit, lightweight, with a convenient foldaway handle. It doesn’t have a large footprint and stores neatly away. To be picky, we consider the water tank and lid a bit flimsy, but this is a minor negative overall.

This is the BEST dehumidifier!!! I’ve got PTSD from living with mould in an old apartment I used to rent, so when I bought my one bedroom apartment & could sense things could go south if I didn’t do everything possible to keep it ventilated etc, I researched dehumidifiers and this one was recommended. It’s not quiet quiet but I can easily switch… Read more ·  1

off from it. I run it for 2 hrs at night & an hr in the morning. It’s incredible how much water it takes in. My mind is now at ease esp during winter. It was definitely worth the money spent. Highly recommend.

We have had an ION630 for two and a half years, and an ION610 for about four years. Both still work really well at extracting moisture from the air. But unfortunately, both now make loud squeaking/grating noises such as the sound made by dry/worn bearings, especially when first turned on. The 610's noise can sometimes go away almost completely… Read more

when the machine 'warms up', say after 10 or 15 minutes, but at other times it can continue for hours at a stretch. This means that we can't leave them running overnight anymore. At other times, it became so annoying that we turned them off - permanently in the case of the 630. Both were set for 50% humidity and run on the Low setting most of the time. We briefly set them on Laundry mode, but this would represent less than 1% of their running time. The noise from the two we have is very similar, which suggests to me that there is some common component responsible. It could be a bearing or something else. I don't know. I contacted Ionmax via their website to enquire whether they could be serviced, but that was weeks ago, and they declined to reply. After I posted my review here they were suddenly interested. They asked that I send video evidence, which I did, but after two weeks awaiting a response, still nothing. As the warranty on these was only two years, I suspect that they are both now end-of-life. I expected to get at least five years use. A shame as they are otherwise a good product, and will make a hefty contribution to e-waste.

I find this dehumidifier great quality and does a good job. Well let's see how long it lasts though. Great fast postage from the company too...which you do pay for though. I bought this for my caravan. I wanted the smaller one but it was out of stock and I needed something fast for mold growth which was just starting. So this is more than enough for my small space! I just need to run it for less time. Show details ·  1

Have always struggled with mould and dampness here in the rainforest of VIC, so I'm very glad I purchased an Ionmax for our living space. It warms the air as well, and is so efficient! I had very bad mould issues so I bought this dehumidifier to see if it reduced the moisture and humid conditions in parts of my home. I was shocked at how much water it captured. Highly recommend. Place smells great now. Has the blue butterfly approval. Show details ·  1

Awesome dehumidifiers – I bought two ionmax Ion612 about 8/9 months ago because of bad humidity levels inside our house. Whenever the house was closed up it was horrible with inside humidity levels over 80% which caused mould issues constantly. Since buying these dehumidifiers i use them when the house is closed up mainly overnight and it has been amazing that these… Read more ·  2

machines can reduce the inside humidity levels down to 40/50% which is an acceptable level. The machines do raise the temperature of the room by about 5 degrees, however, they are easy to operate with clear and simple settings and directions - i would recommend this brand of dehumidifiers with a great range of machines to suit any area or situation !

Good dehumidifier – Great little dehumidifier! Works well. I had it running for 6 hrs the other night and it removed most of the water from the air it seemed. Filled up the water tray. Can sleep ok with the low noise. Would be good if it had a timer you could set so it turns on at a certain time of night. Show details ·  2

Follow-up  · Still a great machine... using it almost daily now... run it for 4 hours usually on eco-it does take away the moisture on metal window sills... but needs emptying almost daily (very quick to do)... a timer to set it to run at say 3-4am would be better... not sure about the electricity costs probably very little

Fabulous Water Remover – These machines, I bought two, extract water suoperbly. Second to none and i purchased because of the CHOICE. awards. Show details ·  4

Follow-up  · We have two, and use daily in winter. On hi you can hear them, but they are pushing through a lot of air. They withdraw around ten litres of water over 24 hours. We have some pretty moist air in winter in South Gippsland. TBH I haven't checked the cost. The benefits are totally measurable. The house air remains dry. You can feel it. These machines are well worth every cent. They do what they claim to do and I am truly very, very impressed.

POSITIVE POINTS The packaging was adequate. The delivery notifications & date worked as advertised. The unit is simple to set up & run. In a small, relatively cold room (9 deg C) with an open doorway, it consistently removes 350ml/hr , and warms… Read more

the room up by 1-1.2 deg C when run for 4 hours. As mentioned in every review, it is smaller and lighter than a compressor dehumidifier - but probably not significantly different from other desiccant dehumidifiers.

NEGATIVE POINTS Two missing features prevent what I consider "normal operation", which is to prevent mould forming on clothes in our storeroom. IMO "normal operation" should be: you set it up to come on each day at a fixed time, for a fixed duration. During that time, it should discharge continuously through a length of plastic tubing of at least 3m length, which can be taken across a passageway to discharge externally under a door or through a drillhole in the wall.

This unit does not have any scheduled timer, which is a major nuisance, especially when a lot of other applicances for room use (eg, oil heaters) do have one. It's not an expensive item to add to the device.

The length of plastic tubing supplied for "continuous drainage" was unusable, resembling a very short, very stiff length of garden hose, and of far larger large diameter than needed. Some other dehumidifiers come with several metres of softer, much narrower plastic tubing (like LDPE "beverage tubing"), which I have used in the past, and which works well. Continuous drainage is just as essential as the scheduled timer. Apart from laundry clothes-drying use, there is no point in running this kind of unit just once. It needs to run daily, and if you forget to empty the container just once, you have a soaked carpet.

These two deficiencies prevent this model from being used in a "set and forget" fashion. If I had seen another brand with good reviews and with these 2 features included, I would have immediately chosen that other brand instead.

There were other evidences of poor industrial design, although less important to daily use. These include: 1. the pull-out water container is quite flimsy: I think it will soon get broken in most households if it has to be emptied every day. 2. central handle on the water container is poorly designed, as the container swings around too much when you carry it full of water. A more stable handle, or pair of handles, would not have been hard to include. 3. the emptying slot is poorly located, so you cannot pour the water out cleanly without it splashing against its own plastic surrounds. Annoying if you want to pour it into a jug to measure volumes, for instance, or into any receptacle smaller than a toilet. 4. there is a hygrometer readout, but no temperature read-out. If you want to record collection rate vs humidity and temperature, which is a reasonable thing to do, especially as figures for comparison are available from source like Choice, you can't do it. Also, the temperature is a key figure to record when battling mouldy surroundings - which is a very common reason for buying this type of unit. 5. The water tank should be removable from the front instead of the back, so you don't have to keep turning the unit around if you first want to read the control panel, and then want to remove the water container. It sits flush against the body, so front removal would not be unsightly. 6. There is no instruction guide or manual of any kind, apart from a some minimal information on a single sheet of paper - useless. 7. the optional HEPA filter is expensive considering the low grade material. 8. The boxed item makes no mention at all of the expected life of the zeolite material which is essential to its operation, nor any mention of whether it is replaceable, nor the likely cost. The company's website claims it "doesn’t need frequent recharging or maintenance" which is too vague to be reassuring. 9. There is no mention at all of whether the discharge water contains significant amounts of zeolite or other leached chemicals, and no mention of whether it is safe to use it for other purposes: eg, for filling steam-irons, or for watering plants, pets or stock.

CONCLUSIONS It works in cool rooms, unlike a compressor dehumidifier, so this meets the most immediate requirements. However there are many poor design features, and I distrust the lack of any details about zeolite life, replaceability & cost.

Follow-up  · Follow-up: in answer to some questions asked: 1. I do not as yet have an answer for the drainage issues. I turn it on when the storage room is cold and humid, and empty the bucket manually. As previously stated, I would *like* to set it up to run automatically, but this isn't possible because of both the drainage issue AND the lack of a timer. … Read more

We live in an area of high humidity. We have two Ionmax 612s and two Ionmax 622s. Very different machines. The many pluses of the 612 are that it can run quiet, it is light, has a small-ish footprint and has a number of options - such as variable fan speed. So it is perfect - for example - running in a bedroom at night. The minus - and there is… Read more ·  1

only one - is that it is less efficient at pulling moisture out of the air. The 622 is a beast that way but it weighs more and is noisy as, has less options and pro and con - needs emptying often (if you don’t use the included hose) - several times a day. Tip - the extracted water is good quality - we use it for pot plants. So if you wanted a quieter, gentler, easier maintenance (in terms of emptying) and more portable dehumidifier, the 612 is perfect. It is our go-to bedroom and tv area machine(s). The 622s are our workhorses for those rooms we’re not in much. Both machines warm the room, not surprising when we are running them 20 hours every day - did we mention we live in a humid climate.

On our experience an Ionmax won't let you down – We had lots of problems of humidity in our house near the beach. second one for a seperate room, and it solved the humidity problem there as well. We haven't noticed that it makes a significant change to the actual temperature of the room although it does feel more comfortable with a lower humidity. Now in summer in a subtropical climate only 499 metres from the beach both are working all the time, except when needing empty. The controls are self explanatory and they are very easy to operate. Certainly if one eve dually breaks down it'll be replaced with another Ionmax. We have been offered a discount for this review whether it was good, badf or indifferent.

I had my ION630 unit almost 3 years. Recently after I turned it on, it will run for at the most one minute and flipped to the 'Check' Led. will have to inspect the unit before a final cost can be decided. Andatech also offered me 30% discount on new identical unit (RRP $549), and the best they could do is $350. My argument is, a unit at that price point, I expect it to be durable and reliable. I have had a few delonghi ones and they are very reliable, I had one that lasted over 20 years, another at least 10 years old now. I am hesitant to spend another $350 or $370+ on a unit that is not that reliable. My thinking is if I buy a new one it may only last another 2+ years only. I saw some similar reviews on this platform so wanted to share my experience as well. I have done all the right things, cleaning the filters regularly, switch it off when not needed, etc etc. I am really disappointed.
