I like the way UniSuper maintains good communications with its members, and is informative about choices of investments. The payments of benefits after retirement are clear and make it easy to split the regular payments across accounts.

UniSuper has looked after my superannuation for over 20 years – I’ve been with UniSuper for over 20 years. My journey towards retirement and financial independence continues to be very well supported by the UniSuper team, especially by my financial advisor, Jonathan Kujawa. The Melbourne UniSuper office has a hidden gem: an expansive, well-lit and very comfortable members’ lounge where one can work, study,… Read more

read or enjoy a coffee and snack while waiting to see one’s financial advisor (or before heading back to work). The lounge has large picture windows that overlook the GPO, Elizabeth Street and Bourke Street Mall and is a peaceful oasis amidst the noise and frenetic pace of activity in the CBD. Post-COVID, I find UniSuper’s website to be very much improved in its customer-focused content and web design, offering lots of helpful resources and great reporting tools too. I trust this brand because it is a not-for-profit company and because it knows and understands the Australian tertiary education sector like no other fund can or does.

Switching funds – I had the opportunity to have my employer contribute to UniSuper during a period of retirement casual employment in 2018. I am very reluctant to change trustees, without very good reason. I initially moved my funds with an Australian Banking organisation to UniSuper in 2019 when I compared returns, information provided and updates between the… Read more

Banking organisation and UniSuper. In 2022 my major fund trustee of a US based trustee organisation advised that they were closing their High Growth fund down in 6 months time, but refused to discuss anything with me over next three months. So after a couple of attempts to converse, I moved all my funds to UniSuper, partially based on better net returns after trustee and management expenses and part I had grown to trust UniSuper over the four years.

My only regret is that I would prefer to have 50% of my assets for retirement with different trustees who are independently choosing the spread of investments. This "spread" of risk can occur if your spouse has a different reputable trustee. The super member may have no idea where the funds are actually invested (UniSuper provided a list to review) and what changes to investments are made.

If you are fit, exercise and healthy, basically only look at 10 year returns to make decisions. Look at "net" after all expenses - but most trustees like telling you "gross " performance returns.

My biggest words of advice is to train yourself whilst working to have interests, hobbies and sports before retirement. You can fairly easily "downsize" expenditure to what funds you need to "eke" your retirement on. I claim I am down to $10.00 per day, being the cost of a coffee and muffin at the coffee shop on the Harbour foreshore where my kayak lands to turn around and paddle home and have my swim across one of Sydney Harbour's bays. This is a lot less enjoyable than flying gliders at 10,000 to 13,000 feet over NSW before retirement as in comparison "Sydney Harbour" is a "ponce" of a Harbour!

I have been with UniSuper since leaving AustralianSuper for the same reason I'm about to outline - Namely that the investment performance shown in UniSuper's graphs often doesn't correlate with the changes in my Fund Balance. Below is just one example of many I have noticed. As of ~1.00pm Friday 9th May 2025 I had 4 Investments in my portfolio as… Read more

follows: 1. Conservative Balanced x 25% 2. Cash x 25% 3. Australian Bonds x 25% 4. Australian Income x 25% From 7th to 8th of May the Inv. Performance returns* increased as follows: < refer attached images > 1. 2.33 > 2.61 | Increase = 0.28% x 25% (.0007) x Balance 2. 0.31 > 0.33 | Increase = 0.02% x 25% ( .00005) x Balance 3. 0.59 > 0.75 | Increase = 0.16% x 25% (.0004) x Balance 4. 0.88 > 0.88 | Increase = Zero

While this equated to an increase of $353, my Fund Balance only increased by $159. This may not seem like much alone, but multiply it by the thousands of balance changes that occur in your account X the thousands of members in the fund and. . . . Well; you get the picture.

I check & screen-shot my balances often so can confidently assert this is NOT an isolated or unusual occurence; which begs the question:

How many other UniSuper members have experienced this?

Poor online services and minimal transparency – The growth has not been near the 8.9% they claim, and the defined benefit scheme, in most cases, isn't better than accumulation performance. Online services are constantly buggy, and difficult to navigate and find simple information. Online chat service is complicated; they hesitate to listen to concerns and provide the information you want. The… Read more

investment performance information is very basic, and they don't show how much is paid in fees, insurance, tax or how much of the growth is based on investment rather than contribution.

professional, accurate and clear in each instance. I got the records I needed (had to be supplied directly by UniSuper as regular statements etc. were not acceptable). Thanks so much to Daniel and all others who assisted. Visa was approved after a harrowing 7-month experience!

Follow-up  · Overseas access was quick-a few days for response by email but I phoned and waiting time was quick - moderate (phoned a few times). Absolutely no fees other than the normal account fees. I made no transfers so cannot comment.

Having been a member of Unisuper for 25 years, and made a modest effort to keep abreast of the superannuation system in Australia, I have come to believe that it is an excellent superannuation organisation. As far as I can tell, the administration costs are relatively low, and the overall service I have received has been very very good. I have… Read more

always been able to get reliable information about my account and government regulations, be it by phoning them, having a Zoom meeting, or meeting with them in person in Sydney. I think their experts really know what they are doing, but they don't push me any one way or another to do anything in particular--they inform me, provide well-meaning advice, but leave decisions up to me. Also, Unisuper offers a wide range of investment options, and you can see what companies and organisations are included in each option. So you can tailor your investments not just to your appetite for risk, but also to your concerns with the environment and the ethical profile and history of specific companies. I have found the online information about all these things quite comprehensive, reliable, and helpful. I also found some of the calculation tools helpful when trying to decide how to set up my pension in the retirement phase, which is where I am now. Upon retirement about 6 years ago, I chose to move my Accumulation account into a FlexiPension option, which has performed very well so far. There are a few issues with my account now that I live overseas, but I have been able to sort them out. So, yes, I am very happy with Unisuper, and I would recommend it to anyone.

A few years ago I moved my superannaution account away from Australian Super which had been providing abysmal service (incompetence and unhelpful attitude from representatives who initially refused to consult internal experts to get me the information I requested). I moved my funds to Unisuper and the change was impressive. Unisuper has a strong… Read more

customer focussed approach and now whenever I need technical information about Superannuation Law or about the policies and procedures of Unisuper in how it administers member accounts, I am readily given the information I ask for.

For instance I recently asked whether it is possible under Superannuation legislation- (certain unusual circumstances may allow for this?) - for BINDING nominations made in favour of only some children of the account holder to be challenged by another child who has not been nominated as a beneficiary. I was provided with a fully satisfactory answer which however, is too detailed to summarise here in a couple of sentences.

In such cases in which specialist knowledge is required, the Unisuper representative who is helping me will happily refer to subject matter experts in the company to get answers to my questions.

I am very happy with the professional, helpful attitude of Unisuper representatives.

Generally I've been happy with UniSuper since joining in 2016, with 100% of my contributions going to the Global Environmental Opportunities portfolio - indicating that this is important to me. So along with many other members I was shocked to realise the environmental requirement of this portfolio has been watered down significantly. I don't… Read more

want to invest in technology companies run by amoral and cowardly US billionaires. I expect UniSuper to show more diligence, communicate better, and create a portfolio that I feel comfortable to invest in.

Please do better.

From https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/feb/20/unisuper-accused-of-greenwashing-after-quietly-reducing-environmental-element-of-investment-option:

UniSuper communicated the changes to members via its website and in an email to members. The email did not contain a summary of the changes but invited people to click through to a pdf document.

“Having made the change they really didn’t explain it to members,” Dixon said. “Hardly anybody would have twigged.”

UniSuper is fantastic! They provide an excellent service, including appointments to review and discuss your superannuation portfolio. I recently completed one of these appointments and was very impressed with the level of advice and support provided. They offered practical strategies to increase my super, helped me navigate the website, and… Read more

provided guidance on selecting the portfolio that best suited my circumstances. A lot of this information isn’t widely known or easily accessible without some education and guidance, so I found the appointment particularly valuable. Is anybody else concerned about UniSuper now flogging Caravans? What is up with this advertising for this Titanium company smack in the middle of the App? What sort of "deal" have they got us into and are they using members money for this in anyway? Contra deal? I thought I had moved to a professional fund now I find them selling advertising space to 3rd party brands, what next... Retirement Villages and Seniors dating sites?

Totally Unhappy with UniSuper! Once you are in the Pension Phase they totally stop all support and pretend you don't exist. They have removed the ability to log into their site for people in the pension phase probably because they have absolutely no information for members once they purchase a Lifetime Pension. For instance; today is the 13 July… Read more

2026 and a CPI increase was to be actioned on the First of July. To date I have received no correspondence whatsoever to inform me of the new fortnightly pension amount or what CPI figure they have applied.

Google searches and an AI response says that UniSuper will be applying a 4.1% CPI increase from the 1st July 2026. The PDS at purchase stated that the March 12 month CPI would be applied each year. Checking the ABS site it states that the March 12 month CPI figure is 4.6%. UniSuper have obviously decided to keep a half percent increase for themselves with no explanation to Pension Recipients.

I have posted in the past how atrocious the UniSuper support is for pension recipients. They responded with all sorts of platitudes but nothing has changed in the 2 years I have been complaining directly to them; in fact if anything their support has gotten worse.

In fairness I must state that during the accumulation phase UniSuper had great support and tools for members. However once in the pension phase there is no support or care given to pension recipients.

UniSuper engage in underhand tactics to 'trap' members into their DBD fund. Somehow they convince University HR departments to explicitly specify the DBD fund in employee contracts. If you don't exit the fund within 2 years, you're locked in. You can't change funds you can't change how your money is invested, even if you change University, you're… Read more

locked in. They deliberately make your contract an irreversible 'opt out' model instead of opt in. The key word of 'Choice' does not apply to Unisuper. For young people, with poor superannuation knowledge, this is a case of a big financial bully taking advantage of young people new to the workforce.

The website was easy to use to transfer from my previous fund. Unisuper has lower fees and is making a better return. I can log into my account to view my balance and if I need to withdraw cash, its only a few days before its in my account.

The UniSuper staff are uniformly responsive, courteous, &helpful. However each time I ring. I must wait until a series of very tedious & repetitive messages ends. Very frustrating! And the optional Q have you withdrawn your super is ambiguous- have I withdrawn funds ? Or pulled out of the super fund?

We were given great financial advice from a Unisuper financial consultant on retirement options when we were worried wouldn’t have enough in our super to keep us going. That advice has lead to us having a comfortable retirement. Unisuper is one of the top performing super funds year after year - it is a class product.

Impressive advice and a high-performing product. I would recommend consulting UniSuper at several key stages of life—early career, mid-career, and as you approach retirement—as the decisions you make (or fail to make) can have a significant impact on your long-term financial outcomes.
