It's rare to find a super fund that not only aligns with your values but also delivers such outstanding support. I truly appreciated their approach over the years and would wholeheartedly recommend Cruelty Free Super to anyone looking for a compassionate and professional superannuation option.

and appear to be working from scripts, which makes resolving many issues an ordeal. When you ask whether you're speaking to someone overseas, you're told they're in Australia - yet the quality of service and communication suggests otherwise. Time and again, you're given different information about your Super every time you call, which has happened to me when trying to get accurate information. This creates an incredible amount of stress for members, and it's little wonder so many people are complaining here. Clear, concise, consistently correct communication is clearly a struggle, and it pushes people towards moving their Super elsewhere. When it comes down to it, Hostplus has downgraded its member services to an inferior standard, and it likely won't be long before they see the consequences of bad corporate decision-making.

supposed to be applied to member balances on the same day. However, my account has repeatedly been credited with returns that do not match the fund’s own published data; including days where the fund reports positive performance, but my balance shows a loss.
Example 1 — International Shares (11/09 → 14/09): On 11/09/26, the International Shares option posted a +0.3316% daily crediting rate (consistent with global markets). Based on my balance, this should have added ~$285. Instead, my balance did not increase at all. Between 11/09 and 14/09, my balance actually fell by $5.70, despite two positive daily crediting rates. This cannot be explained by FX, timing, or market movements.
Example 2 — High Growth (15/09/26): On 15/09/26, AustralianSuper published a –0.5541% daily crediting rate for High Growth. Based on my balance, this should have resulted in a loss of ~$475. Instead, my account was debited –$1,453.41 — over three times larger than the published loss. This is not a rounding error or timing issue. It is a major discrepancy between the fund’s published unit price movement and the return applied to my account.
Across multiple days, the returns applied to my account plainly DO NOT MATCH the daily crediting rates that AustralianSuper publishes for its 3.6 million members. These discrepancies are large, repeated, and financially significant.
After raising this with support TWICE, I still have no explanation for why my returns do not match the fund’s own data. At this point, I have no confidence that the unit prices applied to my account are correct.

Pension for some time I was made to wait forever to get my TPD payment through their insurer MetLife, all the while having to continue to pay insurance premiums from my super account otherwise I can’t claim, to me that is extortion! I finally was awarded my TPD payment, the date of disablement was determined by MetLife to be February 2023, so I asked for my premiums from the end of January 2023 to be refunded back to my account, but no, they keep the premiums up until the date MetLife made a decision, July 2026!!! They have outright stolen my money, they are rogues and thieves, don’t go with CareSuper!

that rendered me unable to work, I attempted to access my default Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance. To my dismay, I was informed that I did not qualify for coverage because I supposedly did not work for a Real Estate agency. I promptly provided evidence of my employment in the sector, yet they repeatedly referred back to their policy, dismissing my eligibility.
According to their own policy, I meet all the criteria for default insurance cover: 1. I am aged 25 and above. 2. My account balance has exceeded $6,000 at least once. 3. I have never canceled my cover, nor has it ceased. 4. A contribution was made after my balance met the $6,000 threshold.
Despite this, REI Superfund has consistently refused to provide me with the necessary paperwork to access my claim. Now, six months later, they are suggesting that I withdraw my superannuation, effectively absolving themselves of responsibility.
In frustration, I contacted the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) due to their lack of response to my complaints. I also hired a superannuation lawyer who has indicated that their practices may be illegal and that this matter needs to be escalated further.
While I acknowledge that the funds are managed well financially, I strongly advise anyone considering accessing their insurance through REI Superfund to think twice. The process has been incredibly frustrating, and I fear that many others could face a similar situation, potentially leading to financial ruin before they receive the assistance they rightfully deserve.
