My wife and I got cards for a trip to the UK, they worked well. The problem was after we returned. There were some transactions in and out of my account which i did not do, nor authorise. They looked like money laundering. Wise locked my account. They said they sent me an email, but i have no record of it. It took months to sort out and they… Read more

finally unlocked my account. Now i have difficulty opening it due to their security hurdles. None of it works and i keep getting told to reset a password. I do that and it send me around the loop again. I have another trip coming up but i have no confidence in Wise and fear they will lock everything up again while we are away. Its a shame as they were OK but they seem to have become very poor.

Customer service is alive and well at Wise. My experience with Wise was absolutely terrible I have to say that my experience with Wise was extremely disappointing. Although customer support was available, no one seemed to have any answers or solutions to my problems. While I was overseas, Wise locked my account, and both my digital card and physical card were locked. This left me… Read more

effectively stranded without access to my money.

Thankfully, I had a backup means of accessing money. If I had been relying solely on Wise, I could have been in a very serious situation.

The experience was incredibly stressful. I was spending around an hour every day on my phone trying to get the problem resolved, with no satisfactory answers.

Unfortunately, the problems haven’t ended there. I recently transferred $1,500 from my Wise account back to my Australian bank account on 22 August, and I’m still waiting for the money to arrive, more than a week later.

After everything I’ve experienced, I will not be using Wise again. What should have been a convenient way to access my money overseas turned into a nightmare.

Based on my personal experience, I would strongly recommend having an alternative payment method and backup funds if you choose to use Wise. I certainly won’t be relying on Wise again.

Very disappointing experience.

Wise used to be an app focused on international currency transfers and conversions. I WAS SCAMMED BY WISE I opened an account to send money overseas, the first transaction worked OK but there was obviously a fraudster working there as there was another unauthorized transfer of money from my bank to a metals company I've never heard of, after research I found it is a scam. I tried to resolve issue with no luck and got ripped off for $272, I had to cancel my bank card attached to my wise account

I’m writing because Wise has held my money since 14 November, after closing my account, and despite nearly a month of communication and providing all requested information multiple times, I still have not received my refund. I have no way to access my account, no clear explanation, and the delay is causing serious issues for my business. My name… Read more

is Juan, a former Wise customer, and this is the only way I have left to reach someone who can actually resolve this. Below is a concise timeline of everything that has happened.

Timeline of Events 14 November

I made a payment intended for an import company in Colombia.

15 November

Wise requested additional information. I provided it immediately.

16 November

Wise closed my account without a clear explanation. I submitted an appeal in the app.

17 November

My appeal was denied. I was told my refund would be issued within 2–3 days via bank transfer.

20 November

No refund was received. Because my account was closed, I had no access to the “Contact” button and could not reach support.

24 November

I created a second Wise account solely to contact support and request the refund.

1 December

Support said they were unable to refund to the original account and asked me to provide an alternative.

3 December

After finding the email in my junk folder, I provided alternative bank details immediately.

5 December

A support agent asked me to confirm details already provided. Another agent then said the refund details did not match the original sender name, even though I had already supplied both personal accounts under my name and business account details.

I sent all possible accounts again to avoid any further delays.

6 December

Another agent requested the same bank details again. I resent everything once more.

At this point I began lodging a formal complaint with VCAT in Australia, as the situation appeared unresolved and unreasonable.

7–9 December

Multiple agents replied saying my request had been “forwarded,” but no refund was processed.

10 December

I received an email saying “Get your refund,” which links to a login page — but since Wise closed my account, I cannot log in to retrieve anything.

Current Situation

Wise has held my funds since 14 November

I have provided every requested document and bank detail repeatedly

I cannot access my account

Multiple support agents have responded without progress

This is severely disrupting business imports and obligations to my associates

I recently transferred money through TransferWise (Wise), and the experience was extremely disappointing. They displayed a higher exchange rate before I transferred the funds, but immediately after sending the money, the rate dropped and I ended up receiving less than what was shown earlier. This feels like a very cheap and misleading tactic.… Read more

Customers expect transparency, but this experience was far from honest. I will not be using their service again and cannot recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy money transfer platform.

I transfered my first installment of my tuition (100 000 SEK to AUD) using Wise and have used them before for smaller sums, without any issue. I transfer the money immediately but since I am in Australia with a time difference to Sweden my bank did not open until the next day. However, I was going to be within the hours approved for a locked rate.… Read more

I made a second payment for a significant lesser sum at the same time, which reached my friend with no issue. I get approval from Wise that they have received my money, and monitor my uni website to see it reaches them as well.

It took a couple of days (over the weekend as well) but then one day I see it made its way but that I still owe 35 AUD. Not a lot, but I don't understand how it happened. I think I made a typo, but I go to check and I have not. The app says nothing about the sum I sent not having reached my recipient (which is their own words, "type in the sum and the recipient will receive exactly that"). Thank God I had transfered with a margin to my university's deadline, and I write to Wise to fix the issue.

They then claim I sent in the money too late. I transferred it immediately! And the other transfer had gone through without any issues. Wise demands proof of my transfer. My screenshots were not sufficient "because they can easily be edited", so the ask me to get a Proof of Payment. At first they are reluctant to even share how many hours the rate was locked for, and it can't be found on any receipts from them or in their app, but finally they confirm it was locked for 18h46min. I remembered it saying 23h but I didn't know I had to screenshot it (just sheer luck/old habit that I screenshotted the confirmation of transfer, even though they did not accept it) and have no way of proving it now.

Following their instructions, I contact my bank and they say that it is something they can only provide me with for a fee. I write to Wise to ask that if I pay for this, will they be able to transfer the remaining sum to my school, but they take back the confirmed hours saying it was actually shorter and claims I missed it and "initiated the payment" a time that my bank is willing to provide proof for that I did not (it was transfered as soon as my bank opened and my customer service chat corroborates that, not to mention me fully willing to pay for the official "letter" from the bank to prove this). This is after a week of back and forth.

They finish their last email with "Let us know if you have any more questions", which I do and I reply, to then receive a "We don’t monitor this email address". I am so disappointed, I feel taken advantage of and disrespected and I will never use Wise again, and would like to warn everyone that they are not an honest company.

There, of course, was no explanation or reason given, but I believe it was because my partner, at my insistence, moved into a new house and I sent larger sums of money to pay for new furniture and appliances. As I said, the account was closed without warning or reason given and I have been given no access to the money that was in that account.

Follow-up  · Wise did refund the money though they never communicated with me as to how or when it would happen. My partner in Manila and her family suffered terribly from the recent floods there, because of Wises shutting my account without warning it severely restricted my ability to help them through this disaster.

Customer service tells me that the photos need to be in "real time", I am taking photos of my license and a selfie as I am speaking with customer service and forwarding them on - how is that no "real time"? And even if anyone got into my bank account, they cant do anything with it, nor can they do anything with my license number or email address ... it really should not be this hard ... if you looked at my licence photo, of which I have had a licence for over 48 years, why would you want to look like me? So frustrating ..... Privacy? Not sure about that

Without any prior warning, my business account was deactivated. I only became aware of the issue after noticing account changes myself and contacting customer support. During multiple conversations, I repeatedly asked for clarification regarding the reason for the decision and whether there was anything I could do to address the issue. The… Read more

response was always the same: Wise could not provide any specific information.

I immediately submitted an appeal, despite not knowing what policy, activity, or concern I was supposedly appealing. The appeal was later denied, again without any meaningful explanation. Instead, I was directed to a generic page listing possible reasons accounts may be closed.

To make matters worse, I then received notice that my personal account will also be closed on September 15, 2026. Once again, customer support was unable to explain why the decision was made or what factors contributed to it.

My primary concern is not simply the account closure itself—it is the complete lack of transparency. As someone who relies on international financial services for both personal and professional purposes, I depended on Wise to help manage cross-border payments. Having both business and personal accounts terminated without a clear explanation creates significant disruption and leaves customers with no meaningful opportunity to respond, provide context, or correct potential misunderstandings.

I understand that financial institutions must manage risk and comply with regulations. However, customers deserve clear communication, transparency, and a fair process when decisions this significant are made.

At a minimum, I would like Wise to reconsider the closure of my personal account and improve its communication practices so that other customers are not left in the same position—confused, unsupported, and unable to understand why they are losing access to a service they have depended on.

Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Wise to other customers who rely on transparency, accountability, and predictable customer support.
