per day, per person plus on board expenses. Have been extremely happy with them all. Last one was on the Encounter, Brisbane to Singapore 2023, stayed in Singapore and returned on the Encounter after the refit in dock when the water slide was added. 14 days there, 15 days return and I think it was 19 days between in Singapore. Wonderful holiday, even had COVID when arrived in Singapore, not a problem. Love cruising, many people complain but if you don’t set your expectations too high then you won’t be disappointed.

moment we boarded, the atmosphere was unwelcoming and unpleasant.

Drinks were misleading: when ordering a gin and tonic, they hid the gin bottle behind the counter and served only tonic water.

Food service was unacceptable: nothing was offered until late in the evening, and when food finally arrived, guests were given only a single small piece. Anyone who asked for seconds was told to line up again, and one guest was even threatened with being thrown off the boat for requesting more.

Despite charging us $10,000, the service felt designed to squeeze money out of us rather than provide any hospitality.

This was one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had. Absolutely ridiculous behavior and treatment. I strongly advise avoiding this company at all costs.

hoping to watch the drone show, but it was cancelled. I called Captain Cook and asked if I could get a refund or rebook my cruise for Sep or October, and they advised me to email them. I did, but never received a reply back. We turned up for the cruise and were surprised by how many people tried to board the ship. The staff did nothing to control the crowd; as a result, many people tried to sneak in, disrespecting those lining up. One of the passengers ( a woman) was pushed from the pedestrian bridge to the ocean! Staff didn't care much, and some passengers pulled her out of the cold water. The boat itself has plenty of open space, plus a few tables and couches. By the time we got in, no seats were available, and the staff were not visible to assist passengers who came last. AS a result, we were standing for 2 hours like horses in the middle of the boat with lots of screaming kids running around. The cruise went from Barangaroo to the Circle que and back. We paid $60 each. We could've caught a fairy to have the same views of Vivid lights, which would cost way less. We will never use Captain cruises again.

Short version - They were great to travel with until they had to deal with an issue. Improved communication and honesty from the cruise director… Read more

would have resulted in a better outcome for the trip. They only get two stars (instead of one) due to the fantastic crew that served us and did a great job.

Longer version:

First up, the boats, staff, food and service on board both boats were very good.

Our river cruise was affected by low water levels multiple times. This was not unexpected as there was a heat wave going through Europe at the time. This was outside the control of Travel Marvel and after seven days we did have to change boats at the mid-way point. This was the first instance and was handled very efficiently and was not an issue.

We were due in Budapest on the Monday morning to spend the day sightseeing before being transported to the airport on the Tuesday. It was expected to be a 30-40 minute trip to the airport. However, there were low water levels between Vienna and Budapest.

We started to hear rumours that we would not be making it to Budapest due to low water levels on the Friday, and checking the water levels online indicated they had been low for a few days. On Saturday after berthing at Vienna, we were told that they could not make it to Budapest but that we would be berthing at Komarom and bussed into Budapest and back for sightseeing and to be dropped off at the airport. This was going to be about a 1.5 hour trip each way. Not great, but under the circumstances quite acceptable. At this stage I felt that Travel Marvel was doing an excellent job of handling the situation and saw no reason to organise alternate travel.

On the Sunday it started to unravel. We were not well updated on what was happening and at dinner that night some of the passengers had been told to have their bags packed as they would be leaving the boat at 1pm to be bussed to Budapest. We were not in that group. Apparently if your flight was leaving before 2pm on the Tuesday you were on that bus. Our flight as at 2:30pm.

On Monday we were then told that we would be sailing to Krems after the other passengers had departed. Krems turned out to be one of the small towns that we had passed on the way down the river. No explanation was provided why we had to move to Krems. We were also informed that we would not be seeing Budapest and that we would have a 5.5 hour bus trip to the airport on the Tuesday morning with us leaving at 5:30am and needing to have our bags out by 4:30am. Our planned travel segment had been 27 hours to our next destination, but this now ballooned out to 32 hours.

The basic problem was a lack of communication. The cruise director was very good at talking at people but showed no ability to talk to people. While I fully understand that some passengers may have not wanted to incur any further costs, Budapest was a big drawcard for us on this trip and being from Australia a return trip is not a small cost (time and money) option. For some of the UK passengers this would not have been as much of an issue.

If I had been told of the plan early enough I would have happily self funded my own trip to Budapest. I had repeatedly approached the cruise director over several days to see if there were any options available but kept getting fobbed off and assured all would be good. By the time we were told what was happening we did not have the time to make any arrangements. Up until then I had put trust in Travel Marvel to do the right thing by us. Big mistake.

We were bluntly informed that if we had an issue that we could email the customer support centre based in Australia. I did send an email which got promptly replied to (sarcasm - 16 days later) and all concerns were quickly dismissed as they had met everything in their terms and conditions and apparently, I should have been more proactive. Nice transference of blame there.

We were offered $500 discount vouchers each as a sign of goodwill, but after having this holiday tainted with a couple of days of uncertainty and disruption, I would seriously doubt that I will ever use APT and Travel Marvel again. Once bitten, twice shy.

What is the lesson here - read the terms and conditions carefully and don't expect them to make decisions in your best interests. If you do travel with them and an issue occurs, prepare plan B early regardless of what they are saying. Good luck if you decide to travel with them.

I have attached the agendas for each of the days where we were affected as well as the notice suggesting we contact customer care.

than a beautiful way to cruise is to get have a ceremony/wedding onboard. Well - where do I start? The communication is very poor and lacking. Made an inquiry didn't receive an email to say they received my inquiry and then they sent an email out some days later - I replied and then five days later haven't received any correspondence - very strange when dealing with wedding planners. I then sent another email asks the company to call me - a couple days later they called me at 1:15am in the morning. Hello!! I am overseas living in Australia and the company is in America. What's weird is they have my details knowing I'm in Australia and going on a cruise from and to Australia. Rang back during AM hours here in Australia on their international line - operator said the department is closed. Told the operator if someone could please call me during my hours that would be great so I can organize this wedding, they said no I have to call back their time and on their days - do I need to stay up til 1am to speak to someone. The whole planning process should be a smooth transaction and it feels more of a shambles. I was very upset on the phone and was crying but I didn't let the operator know about this. I feel like Royal Caribbean is ruining my ceremony and now I'm thinking of cancelling the whole thing. I went to order the chocolate covered strawberries for our room - for after the ceremony and the website page to order the strawberries was broken - sent email about broken link - no reply - that was 2 weeks ago. Looked on the net about the reviews - said the same thing - lack of communication!!!! And not to do it as too unorganised.

beverage staff were excellent, we found waiters in the main dining room apathetic about service. Meals were rushed and the food was not great. The Lido buffet was a nightmare...nowhere to sit and food was not presented well and looked unappetising. Our biggest disappointment was the Pinnacle Grill. Whilst the atmosphere was lovely, the food was a disgrace. 3 prawns on a plate with tomato sauce, and a raw (not medium rare as ordered) rack of lamb is NOT 5 star dining. Considering the additional cost of US$52 per person we were more than disappointed. After speaking to the maitre'd we felt we should've been invited back for a complimentary meal. Instead, a plate of chocolate crackles was delivered to our suite! Very poor customer service. Have to mention that our room steward was excellent, as were the room service staff. The band and dance group were very professional and provided some great entertainment. Other entertainers brought on board at various ports were 2nd rate (apart from the Australian magician). We have another cruise booked for January 2027 which I booked before this cruise. Hopefully the Westerdam can redeem the shortfallings of the Noordam.

The cruise itself was interesting but there were so many other tourists around we didn't feel like we had an individual experience at the places we stopped. Everything was canned tourism. Personally I think APT is overpriced for what it delivers and I wouldn't travel with them again.

aspects were exceptionally good. Since then we have been on several more, through the Solomons and on her sister ship to Borneo - all unforgettable experiences.

They aren't cheap though and starting at about $1600 a night for a cabin, plus the cost of your drinks, it is something we plan on carefully and about every 2 years. We wait til they have a last minute offer. Last couple of times we have been able to get half price deals through a friend now at Clean Cruising who notifies us as soon as they come out and handles the bookings etc for us.

But last time we had about 2 weeks notice so just have to be prepared to take off at short notice & makes them affordable for us anyway.

The fellow passengers are always a good bunch, except when there are media people on board and they tend to take over things but even on this small ship there are plenty of places to chill out. This is a perfectly maintained ship with a very attentive, cheerful crew right down to the bar staff who know your first names and favourite drink from day one. The food is superb, whether fine dining or al fresco BBQ, just get spoilt rotten and we love it! But it IS about the destinations and it is something else to visit a remote island village for the first time ever from a ship of any type.. Too much happening everyday, announcements and briefings and not much time to rest up in between. And it is NOT geared for fishing OR diving except on expensive side trips. Should provide affordable drinks packages as it can quickly blow your budget too.
