2 Lyn W.  · Bitterly disappointed......fully charged barely does 10 minutes. When it's working its fine but really?? 10 minutes. I wouldn't buy another one.
2 Tina  · Battery life is ridiculously short – The suction is great for the 10 minutes the fully charged battery lasts. Very frustrating.
5 Graeme T.  · Best sucker I have ever had 36 volt – Had for a month, bin a good size, lots of power, a bit hard to push on carpet otherwise a very good machine

I LOATHE this vac. I've had several cordless vacs over the years and this is the heaviest. It tends to push things around that do not suit its design (like bits of breakfast cereal and biscuits). Its as heavy as can be and for the price, I think… Read more

about $160+ mark on special its not a good buy for me. And the run time is very short compared to a little one I bought on Temu. TBH I'm gonna gift this one to Vinnies. Also you have to carry battery around on the vac itself, and its not lightweight. I prefer the ones you can charge up. I'll be getting a wee Big W one again much much easier to manouver.

Follow-up  · I gave the thing away!! It will be used by a big burly bloke for his shed hate the thing.

Probably one of the worst vaccums ever tbh, this is my 2nd one as the first was replaced due to it shocking everyone that used it this second one just spits everything out that it sucks up and has done since its second use. Would not reccomend.

I purchased my Black & Decker Powerseries Extreme several years ago when my Dyson’s battery died. Although it was noisy, it was sufficient for about 10 months. After that it started playing up. The battery started to go and it was not viable to replace it. The battery is easy to replace but it’s far too expensive to do so. Off to landfill it goes. I also didn’t like the attachment locks, I found them tight and difficult to detach. Show details

Powerful but noisy – The head on this stick vac is amazing! It shows every speck of dust & pet hair on the floor thanks to the lights on it. These lights are far stronger than other stick vacs I have seen & the vacuum itself is very powerful. On the downside it’s noisy in operation (it sounds like a coffee grinder) After a 10 minute use the battery takes over 9hrs to… Read more

get back two bars! Also disappointingly you have to send away for the extra brushes that I think should come with it.

Stick Vacuum Good Price & Product – I have been looking for a good stick vacuum for a while but did not want to pay $500 for one. I was out one day and sore this one and it was only $159. I have vacuumed my whole house with this and it works great. I would recommend this for anyone looking for one.

Bad investment – My wife and I purchased this unit about 8 months ago. For very small areas it's ok the main problem is it continually gets blocked where the flexible hose is, then the sucking power is almost nothing. it really really needed cleaning every single time it is used. VERY VERY disappointed we should of spent a little more money. One more thing is the battery charger has indication on battery status. Show details

Don't bother - dustpan and brush a better alternative? – We purchased this as an 'expendable' vacuum whilst our brilliant Dyson sits under the house whilst we wait for our renovations to be completed. Ok, so our house is super dusty and dirty whilst our house is being renovated, but this B&D unit barely does anymore than what a dustpan and brush will do. It's a crude attempt at a stick vacuum. Battery… Read more

life is average combined with a loooong charge time too. Often I've vaccumed up only very light mess (fluff, crumbs etc.), only to return the area a minute and see it is back there! Classic sign of insufficient function. Enough to pick the material off the floor and most of the way up the shaft, but not enough to get into the catch/bin, so it just falls back down onto the floor. The auto-speed function is really rather annoying as well. Ok, I wasn't expecting much for ~$200, (in life you nearly always get what you pay for) but I was expecting much better than this. Can't wait for our renovations to be completed......so I can chuck this one away!

Things I wish I knew about this vacuum an honest review – I have owned now for 18 months. The motor has just started playing up but has 2 year warranty. Suction is great on high and get approx 15 to 20 mins worth on high before needing recharge. I use everyday and clean the filter every week otherwise it dramatically loses suction. (Can buy replacement filters 6 for $33 Amazon) It is fantastic for pet… Read more

hair but poor at vacuuming cat litter spilt on floor. People say no light on recharge box, yes it has 2 recharging lights, one is the lights flash on recharge on the front of the vacuum and there is a light on the recharger itself if you remove the recharger from the plastic wall hanging thing it comes in. My recharger broke at 6 months in and I had to order one from online ( I got one on Catch) . I wish the dirt catcher was bigger and it came with more attachments. There is a more powerful model in this range with bigger battery and more attachments and I will be buying that when mine dies. It works fantastic on carpet, not as good on timber floor but still works well. Doesn't like to pick up anything bigger than crumbs size. All up I have a love/hate relationship with this vacuum but I wouldn't live without it and after much research online I will be purchasing one of these again (just the bigger model).

June 2026. Update since I wrote this article. I am now on my third of the same model stick vacuum. I haven't bought the more powerful model yet as I buy these vacuums when on discount specials at Big W. The second one I purchased was a complete dud, didn't last longer than 6 months, the spinning head just stopped spinning, so make sure you keep your receipt for the warranty, I didn't, so I can't comment on the replacement procedure. Now my third is starting to have the same problem, the spinning head is stopping on carpet, after having for 12 months, and the dust catchment container on this one keeps popping off easily, very annoying when it hits the ground and opens. The battery on the third also seems to run out quickly. I have kept the batteries and chargers from the previous vacuums so I have a few charged to swap with. The suction on this one also seems to have decreased over use even though I clean the filter every week and I have checked for any blockages. It seems there is no consistency in the reliability of the quality from vacuum to vacuum. I still love the ease of using this vacuum as I use it daily. I love the fact that it's very light weight and that the dust catchment container sits on top of the vacuum not under it so it can lie completely flat to the floor to go under low furniture and sofas.I still have the love/hate relationship with it. I am considering whether I should still stick with this product and brand or is it now time to try another brand?

Good Stick Vac – Am happy with this machine and is good for a large apartment. Works well on low speed setting for floating and hard floors and number two speed for carpet. Happy how it cleans carpet. Find it a bit heavy after a while of vacuum cleaning. Battery life is really good, better than most others for this price and you can buy a larger size battery as an… Read more

optional extra. Found if you don't turn the winder on top of filter after every use before emptying the canister or clean the filter out with water every month as it tells you to, it will spit stuff out everywhere and not suck properly as other reviews have noted, it's easy to clean and is the same as with all the other expensive ones, if you do that you will not have problems. It's amazing the filth and dust that it traps in the filter. The electric head is not good at getting up to edges as other reviews note, though if you just go around the other way it picks the stuff up usually or use the nozzle to do that. The attachments that are not included though are shown in the manual, as well as new filters are available to buy separately if you ring Black & Decker parts department and they can send to you or through Bunnings, though you must go through the Bunnings store trade desk and they order them in for you. Notice Big W now sell the upper model of this machine with all the attachments now which has purple/pink wand. Overall happy with the machine and does the job. Please note: read the manual carefully and follow the instructions otherwise you will have problems as others have noted.

Great Purchase – Had a $1,000 LG stick vacuum cleaner which was hopeless at cleaning my wool rugs. The wool got stuck in hose and didn't make it to the barrel. Am so pleased with the Black & Decker Extreme which works perfectly and way better than the expensive LG. So far, beyond my expectation and just hope it lasts!! Show details

Absolutely the best – We have had several stick vacs over the years including some very expensive Dysons this would beat them all by far. We have 2 Jack Russells who shed lots of hair the vac is amazing at cleaning this up. Is by far the best stick vac we have owned and love the way i can use my other battery's from my other tools. Show details

Rubbish product, woeful company – We bought one of these online but our ageing Dyson was still working so it was 5 or 6 months before we unpacked it. After using it for about 3 weeks and being happy with the performance it just died, one morning my wife took it out of the cradle and nothing, just dead, and the battery indicator said fully charged. We contacted Black and Decker but… Read more

unfortunately my wife had lost the receipt and couldn't remember which online retailer she'd bought it from, so Black and Decker refused to do anything at all about their barely used piece of junk. All that I can say is do not buy one of these machines under any circumstances, they are rubbish and Black and Decker's support is non existent.

We learn by our mistakes – I thought this B&D stick vacuum would be as efficient as the B&D mop I bought some years ago. Wrong!! I've had this thing for just over 12 months and it's died on me. The battery appears to be fully charged but the thing won't start. Is it the battery or has something gone really wrong in the body of the machine? Who knows. Anyway to replace… Read more

the battery would cost me $100 roughly. Blow that for a lark. I'm not doing that. I can put that money towards replacing this heavy piece of non-functioning junk for a lighter, cabled non B&D brand stick vacuum, that weighs half as much and doesn't hurt my aged back as I push it round over our tiled floors.

Have had several vacuums over the years, but for our current living / home environment, this Powerseries, specifically for pet hair, has done really well. We have two of them, one for upstairs and one downstairs. Battery is replaceable (unlike the Sauger we had) and does a great job of picking up pet hair, dust, fluff, etc. Small debris (leaves,… Read more

twigs, paper, etc.) can cause it issues with clogs, but that has been easy enough to sort. 3 speed levels with the lowest speed best for rugs or loose carpets so they do not get sucked up and cause it to stop working.

Not worth bothering – This vacuum has great suction but unfortunately it just pushes larger items around. It will not pick up items larger than a pin head. The head of the vac is simply too low to allow stuff in. It will also push items out the back due to the speed of the power head. I’m very disappointed as I’ve had a B&as before and it was ok for a couple of years until the battery failed. Messy to empty too. Show details

Didn’t last long – Worked well for a few months. The brush has stopped spinning. Spent several hours troubleshooting and it’s been built so you can’t fix yourself. Silly me didn’t keep the receipt. Waste of money. Also, super annoying that there’s no charge light so Smyth can’t see when the battery has finished charging. I read a review somewhere about it and didn’t think it would be an issue. It’s actually so annoying haha. Show details

Good stick vac – Firstly, you need to clean the air filter in this unit, and not just by spinning the canister like instructions tell you to, if you don't suction will be impacted and will spit dust hence you'll have a negative experience with it. This is very important. Can tap it outside or if that still doesn't work the filter cartridge tells you it needs to be… Read more

rinsed monthly.

I love the led lights on front of the vacuum head which really show dust you can't see normally and it really cleans this up easily and well.

There's an option to turn of the lights and roller brush to convert it into a standard old school vacuum which saves battery life as well.

The 2.0ah battery is a little small, but you can buy up to 6.0ah which will last 3x as long if need be. All in all I'm very happy with it but do wish there was an option to buy with the larger battery as well, hence the 1 star off

MOST USELESS VAC IVE EVER PURCHASED – Used on tiles and carpet. ABSOLUTELY USELESS. Just pushes debris ahead instead of picking up. If you try to pick it up to put it over the debris it still won’t pick up or if u pick up in the wrong place the dust chamber comes off in your hands creating EVEN MORE MESS Show details

Does about 40% of the job – Okay but not great. Brushes pick up larger things but leave dust behind. Suction ordinary. Floors don't feel clean to walk on. Need to vacuum with a conventional cleaner to to get a proper clean. Battery doesn't last long enough to clean the whole house. Don't bother using it anymore. Show details

You had 1 job and you failed – The whole point of a vacuum cleaner is to suck up debris/hair/glass/cat litter/lint etc. This vacuum cleaner does not do that very well at all. When you turn it off stuff falls out. I have to go over everything with a dust pan and brush or hold it over the bin before turning off. I've had cheap $50 vacuum cleaners with better suction. surprised to see reviews saying the suction is good - it really is not. It's been bad since day one. What is more disappointing then this vacuum cleaner is that putting up this review does not change the reality that I'm stuck with this vacuum cleaner. Wanted to love it – Most annoying vaccum cleaner I've owned. The suction is quite good but! The head clogs super easy. Forever pulling it apart too unclog fluff build up. the freshly cleaned floors. The head is quite bulky which makes it hard to get up close to beaches etc. It kinda of just pushes dirt into the corners. Save your time and money, DO NOT BUY, does not last long – Started off good, a bit loud, but still worked. Close to 2 months of using, it stopped working properly. I took good care of it.
