I would highly recommend this car rental company for affordable and reasonably priced car rentals. Flew on from Melbourne, helpful staffer on the phone with an Uber to collect me to take me to the office. Our experience with Cut Price Car Rentals was extremely disappointing from the beginning. First, we arrived at Coolangatta Airport early at around 9:30am, but our scheduled pickup time was 10:00am. Second, when we received the car, the fuel tank was not full. We had to spend approximately AU$25 to fill it up, yet we were told that we were required to return the vehicle with a full tank or we would be charged.
Third, the left/passenger-side mirror was faulty and could not be adjusted. This was a serious safety issue because we could not properly see vehicles on that side, making changing lanes difficult and unsafe.
Fourth, while travelling from Brisbane, the battery warning light came on. We were travelling on a busy highway with our young children in the car and were extremely worried that the vehicle could break down. We tried calling the rental office, but nobody answered. We had to stop at Repco in Logan to have the bonnet and connections checked. Fortunately, my husband knows about cars and was able to check the vehicle.
When we arrived at our accommodation, we immediately emailed Cut Price to report the problems and requested a replacement vehicle. Instead of resolving the issue, the manager, Gus, gave us excuses and told us they did not have another vehicle available because they were very busy.
At that point, we decided to return the vehicle and requested a refund for the unused portion of our 7-day rental. We had the vehicle for approximately 3.5 days and paid AU$390, so we expected a reasonable refund for the remaining rental period.
We were then told the refund would only be AU$90. We could not understand how that amount was calculated. When my husband questioned the amount and stood his ground about receiving a fair refund, he was accused of being abusive. He did not swear at anyone or threaten anyone. He was simply asking the company to explain and honour a reasonable refund after we had experienced multiple issues with the vehicle.
We are extremely disappointed with how this entire situation was handled. The biggest concern for us was not even the money — it was the safety of our family, particularly having a faulty mirror and then having the battery warning light come on while travelling on a busy highway with our children.
Very disappointing experience with Cut Price Car Rentals — I would not recommend them.

Follow-up · Pickup point was easy to find and it's only a short ride to the depot/collection point. Drop off was easy, lovely, helpful staff. Plenty of boot space for the large suitcases of 4 adults plus back packs and other baggage.
Excellent business – We rented a swift for 8 days in early June, were impressed with Tracey at pickup, she was extremely helpful and informative, car was clean and tidy. card payment was smooth & this also covered any road tolls you pick up along the way (automatically paid from card) so we where on our way very quickly the car was in perfect condition was a pleasure to drive & very roomy I was worried it wouldn’t be big enough but it was more than big enough fitting 4 large suitcases and two small and backpacks plus 6 passengers and everyone was comfortable and had plenty of room! Just hooked up to CarPlay and everything was at our fingertips great sized screen to view maps. Was a great experience overall. arrival at the airport were straightforward and the transport to the depot easy to find and access. We were impressed with the friendly driver who was most obliging lifting our bags in and out of the clean, modern shuttle. The depot was very close to the G.C. airport. At the depot, even though it was outside normal business hours, Emily was most efficient and our rental processed quickly. She took time to show us the details of the vehicle and was also friendly and obliging. The rental car was clean inside and out and in excellent condition. Within an hour of leaving the depot, we had locked our keys in the vehicle! We cannot fault the response to our predicament. Emily had finished work for the day but she had to find a duplicate key and travel ten minutes to open our car, all in her own time. She was very kind and understanding towards us and we thank Emily for her help which was above and beyond the call of duty! Overall, we were very impressed by Cut Price Car Rentals. not apply to us. After voicing my displeasure they reduced this to $300 and demanded we agree to it otherwise they would cancel the agreement a day before we were due to collect the vehicle. Having such short notice to make other plans we agreed and they sent over another contract to sign which simply included the additional amount but did not specify in the contract what it was for. Nowhere on the contract does it state this. What they also failed to mention on sending over the new contract was that they changed the model of car we originally selected in our first contract. Therefore we ended up with a car model that was completely useless for our needs. There was also some confusion around the navigation system we purchased. The majority of the customer service we received was poor and unprofessional. We registered our complaint over the phone with them and requested a callback to discuss this, no call ever came. We then sent an email relating our complaint which we did not receive a reply.
However on submitting this review I was contacted by a member of the complaints department ([Name Removed]) who was extremely helpful and resolved the issue. She was very responsive, took the time to listen and was apologetic of the service we had received, excellent customer service when dealing with her, due to this I decided to increase my review rating.

Follow-up · The pricing of the vehicle which was a ( Toyota Corolla for 2 people only) was in the top 3 in south east Queensland for cost and insurance benefits . Their service and treatment of myself was the deciding factor to continue using their services over price ! Pick up and drop off service very convenient and prompt . Hired one of the budget Susuki Swifts from brisbane. Staff very helpful, but unfortunately the car had some engine issues, including a significant misfiring. Managed to make do for my 5 day hire as I had limited time to deal with replacement. Beware the cars could have fairly significant issues, otherwise the staff where friendly.

After spending significant time on hold and providing all booking and payment details, I was assured the booking was confirmed. However, the company later requested further details by email without notice and cancelled the booking within an hour. As a result, we were left without a car. Overall, my experience with the company was disappointing.

see that this is what happened. When we arrived at Coolangatta airport, I called for the shuttle pickup, which arrived very quickly. The Cut Price office is a short 2 minute drive, tight across the road from the airport. Our car was ready and waiting, with a staff member there to explain all of the information needed to drive that particular vehicle (Camry) and instructions on tolls, petrol stations, everything we needed. I had already signed the contract online prior to vehicle collection and this made for a seamless hire. The drop off was just as easy. I would not hesitate to use Cut Price car rentals in the future. assigned our vehicle with no fuss. Professional and recommended for anyone looking for a clean modern car without having to leave liability deposits that lock up your credit card. ( if you opt for the full damage liability insurance package) Just good old fashioned service and honesty. Trust this company to give you the best. Cars are modern but not brand new and for that - expect to pay about half what the multinationals charge.
Follow-up · Fuel policy was full to full or at least return with same level of fuel as supplied. Drop off was efficient and simple. No hidden fees at all. Tolls will be charged back to you (of course - that's only fair) but what I liked most was that everything was paid up front - no liability at all.
