greeted by a lovely man by the name of Anthony, who provided me a quote immediately for a 24hr hire for a Nissan Xtrail, for $100 which included insurance. Done deal. He was so pleasant and cheery and met me the next morning when I returned the hire car. tiny windscreen chips that we are certain were not caused during our rental. With two passengers in the car at no time did we hear one stone, let alone two, hit the screen.

The chips were not visible to the naked eye on our pre rental inspection — no normal person would have spotted them.

Bargain puts the onus solely on the driver to have photo or video proof that the chips existed prior, without needing to do so themselves.

Make sure you read the negative reviews before renting with Bargain. We will never rent from them again.

$313, but when I arrived to collect it I was told the vehicle had "no insurance." I specifically asked, "Not even third-party?" and was told "No."

Based on that information, I felt I had no choice but to pay an additional $290 for the optional cover, as I believed I would otherwise be driving an uninsured vehicle.... alternatively cancel the booking in which I would lose the $313 I'd already paid.

After reviewing my rental agreement, I discovered it actually states there is standard third-party property damage liability with a $5,000 excess, and the optional cover simply reduced that liability. Had this been explained clearly, I would have been able to make an informed decision instead of feeling pressured into purchasing the additional cover.

There were other inconsistencies as well. I was verbally told my reduced excess would be $550, yet the contract stated $990. When I questioned this, I was told it "had to be written that way." When I returned the vehicle and raised my concerns, I was told it was "too bad" because I had signed the contract.

I was also told that because I had paid with a debit card, purchasing the additional cover was a requirement, but that if I had paid with a credit card I wouldn't have needed to buy it. This was never explained to me before I paid. Instead, I was simply directed to a small notice on the wall behind the counter after the fact. Important conditions like this should be clearly explained to customers before they are asked to pay hundreds of dollars in additional charges.

The collection process was also frustrating. I was initially late to collecting the vehicle, they called me at 2.30 and told mw they had to leave the office for one hour and to arrive from 3.30. I arrived at 3.30 and they weren't there... i came back 20 mins later and they still weren't there... when I called them they said they would be another 30 minutes. By the time I finally collected the car it was around 4:15 pm after a 13-hour journey with three exhausted young children. It was hardly an environment where customers should be expected to notice multiple notices on the wall or decipher complex insurance terms without them being properly explained.

My issue is not that optional cover exists—it's that I don't believe the options were explained honestly or transparently. Businesses should be upfront about what is included, what is optional, and any payment-related requirements before asking customers to sign a contract or pay additional charges. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience.

Be very careful with what you are paying for and what you are getting. My interactions with the owner and the "receptionist" both felt toxic and unprofessional.

They clearly don't like dealing with the public.

Avoid at all costs.

Cut price care rentals in Coolangatta or sufers-rent-a car much better service and transparency, go there instead...even if you end up paying a little more!!

through DiscoverCars, only to be refused the vehicle because Bargain Car Rentals applied documentation requirements that were not clearly disclosed in the booking terms. I had official documents proving my residential address, but they refused to accept them, leaving me without the vehicle I had already paid for.

What followed was even worse. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the matter fairly, DiscoverCars offered no meaningful support and simply referred me back to the rental company, while Bargain Car Rentals refused to take responsibility. Rather than addressing the substance of my complaint, they made unfounded allegations about my conduct instead of focusing on resolving the issue.

I was left out of pocket despite making every effort to comply with the published requirements and resolve the matter reasonably. In my experience, neither company stood behind their obligations or their customers. If you value transparent terms, fair treatment and genuine customer support, I’d strongly recommend avoiding both DiscoverCars and Bargain Car Rentals Melbourne Airport. There are far more reputable companies that actually stand behind the services they sell.

chance and made a booking. The communication from the booking all the way through was outstanding, we could relax knowing everything was taken care of. Tina was at the airport when we arrived, and chatted with us all the way to the depot. The car was clean and well maintained and perfect for our needs. The prices are great and as they state, we weren't charged any "extras" what we were quoted is exactly what we paid (unlike other car hire). We were picked up in the Gold Coast and dropped of in Brisbane after hours without issues. We couldn't go back right away so returned on the 3rd day, but we had to change our schedule and postpone a booked tour to return to the Queenstown location, which was a big inconvenience for us on our trip. All this for a mistake and lack of attention to detail from Apex. We asked for some compensation for the inconvenience and messing up our plans, and they right out refused. When we called the main customer service line, the representative was equally unhelpful telling us to go back to talk to the Queenstown office, which had already denied any compensation to ruining our day's plans. We weren't asking for much, just something like not having to refuel when we return. They sure try to suck every dollar out of you and not provide the service or due diligence for their vehicles and customers.
