 AI reviews summary

The overall sentiment for Specsavers is deeply polarised, with a notable divide between high praise for individual staff members and severe criticism of corporate policies and product durability. While many customers report friendly, professional service at specific branches, a significant volume of feedback highlights recurring failures in prescription accuracy, aggressive sales tactics for hearing tests, and frames that break within months. There is a strong perception that the "2-for-1" marketing is misleading, often resulting in much higher final costs than advertised.

Pros
Exceptional Individual Staff: Numerous reports highlight specific staff members (e.g., in Curramundi, Logan, and Shepparton) who are described as patient, thorough, and genuinely caring.
Efficient Testing Process: Many users find the initial eye and hearing examinations to be professional, using modern equipment with clear explanations of results.
Convenient Locations and Hours: The brand's presence in major shopping centres and weekend availability is frequently cited as a primary reason for visiting.
Successful Audiology Outcomes: Several customers report high satisfaction with hearing aid fittings and the professional expertise of the audiology teams compared to more expensive competitors.
Cons
Prescription and Technical Errors: A significant number of users received incorrect prescriptions, resulting in blurry vision, dizziness, or "fishbowl" distortion, often requiring multiple return visits.
Poor Product Durability: Frequent complaints regarding frames snapping, screws falling out, or lens coatings peeling within 2–12 months, with many stores refusing warranty claims.
High-Pressure Sales Tactics: Recurring frustration over "forced" hearing tests during optical appointments and aggressive upselling that pushes the "2-for-1" deals well beyond the advertised price.
Inconsistent Warranty Support: Customers often face "passive-aggressive" or dismissive management when seeking refunds or repairs for defective products, with some being told issues were their own fault.
Verdict

Specsavers is a viable option for those seeking affordable, accessible eye and ear care, provided they encounter one of the many highly-praised staff members. However, consumers should be wary of significant inconsistencies in product quality and prescription accuracy, as well as potential difficulties in securing refunds or warranty repairs if issues arise.

I received 2 pairs of glasses after having eyes tested. I had problem reading with the glasses - vision on computer screen was blurred. I can read clearly with one eye closed. I returned to store to advise them of the issue. I was told that I had dry eyes and was sold a bottle of eye drops. That did not resolve the issue. I again returned to… Read more

the store and spoke to the Manager. I thought they may offer to re-test in case they made some error. To paraphrase the Manager, it was basically that they were sorry I was not happy. So now I have 2 pairs of glasses that are not fit for purpose.

The specsavers stores at North Rocks NSW and Carlingford NSW were difficult for me to access their equipment for testing eyes general health such as checking for glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts et al. I utilise a power wheelchair Permobil brand and I'm unable to sit in their basic chairs. Unfortunately, when I visited Specsavers stores… Read more

none of their equipment was able to be raised or manipulated into suitable positions for testing my eyes. At the time testing had to be done manually. Moreover, the chairs provided are rudimentary chairs. Since the disappointing appointments I have now found a nearby non- specsavers store that has equipment that can be re-posisitioned (raised & lowered) and equipped with an electric chair that has elevation up & down features and rotation capability.

Bought my hearing aids through Cranbourne store over a year ago and happy with the product, but have since bought a new phone and having trouble connecting to hearing aids. Went into the Cranbourne store and asked if I could get some help, was told the technician could see me at 3.40 pm , it was midday ! Surely with all the people in that store… Read more

someone knows how much o pair my phone to the hearing aids. What a joke ! 64 years old and not good with technology, so asked for help and can’t believe only 1 person in the store can do the job. What a joke ! This is the same store that I purchased reading glasses from and were taken back multiple times because they weren’t right. The same answer every time was give them time and your eyes will adjust. When the 3 months were up the answer was should have had them sorted in the three months of purchase.

I will do everything I can to turn people away from your garbage service. You are an absolute disgrace !

What more could you ask for from Specsavers? From free annual eye checks covered by Medicare, to lens cleaning, replacement of tiny screws, and even help taking a great selfie — the service is always outstanding. A big 5-star shoutout to Kenny, Stu, Chloe, and the entire team at the Werribee Plaza store for their friendly, professional, and helpful service. Keep up the fantastic work! Show details

Been with specsavers for over 10 years. My first issue with a pair of glasses and appalling customer service at the Westfield Geelong store. I purchased a pair of glasses less than 18 months ago and have had to have them fixed 3 times due to pin falling out. Pin snapped and specsavers response! Sorry it's out of warranty.

I purchased glasses and my glasses are still like new condition and I purchased them around two or three years ago. The paint on the frame has peeled off and Specsavers Blacktown have refused to repair or replace the frame.

***DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE - UNSAFE PRACTICE*** My 17-year-old daughter went to the Brookside store to get her eyes checked by herself. The optometrist wrote on a Specsavers business card… Read more

Urgently needed new spectacles when the arm broke a few days before leaving for an interstate wedding. The Specsavers store were fantastic, arranging contact lenses in short timeframe. I also purchased an emergency pair of glasses during Black Friday Sale as backup set. 2year quality warranty & a proud partner with Fred Hollows Foundation which I have supported for 40+ years. Show details

Having purchased glasses at Specsavers for the past four years I will never ever go there again. I would luckily and happily pay $1000 per pair to OPSM to not deal with Specsavers ever again at Coomera. Arguing with the customer when they are right just to have an invalid point or to make a stand is a very immature position for a business owner and manager . Show details

Specsavers spectacles used to be reliable. The quality of the frames are useless. Both my wifes and my own frames have broken at the hinge, and get this! They wont replace them. Have bought framea and glasses from Specsavers for years, but their quality has been lost. Will never buy Specsavers glasses again and I will be presenting my case to Fair Trading. full defensive mode even though I knew the CR139 plastic from which they are made is notoriously soft. I had a ding dong argument where they blamed me for doing it even though I have worn glasses for 50 years and know how to handle them. They said the lenses were made in an unknown factory in either Vietnam or China with no quality control. Never again will I face their corporate speak when complaining of product quality. They offered to refund me but nothing has materialised. I really want to know if this is standard SpecSaver quality or a one-off. My distance glasses are slightly better but still not top quality. I have double vision post cataract surgery so I need my glasses and really cannot spare them to be sent away for fitting again. I paid for both these spectacles in January 2026. I cannot find my receipts but my name and location will be on file. The (undated) note of settlement is attached, with signature.

Follow-up  · The distance glasses also have marks but not as bad as the reading glasses. The refund did not arrive.

Went for my latest eye test last October 2025 Was advised that my continual weeping eyes was “Dry Eye” and advised for me to make an appointment KOTARA eye Solutions ! My wife did some research on this company and they are indeed Affiliated with ,… Read more

YEP , you guessed it, none other than SPECSAVERS. Their treatment for dry eye was suggested to be laser intervention ! COST = Over $4,000+ Not being happy with this suggestion, I visited my local GP who referred me to an eye Specialist in NEWCASTLE NSW, he discovered after tests I have CATERACTS in both eyes. ( so much for that SPECSAVERS diagnosis ) Load of nonsense . Fast forward, Have had my left eye done by Specialist and now waiting to have Other one done ! In the meantime Specialist recommended a pr of “interim” glasses while I wait to finish CATERACTS. took the interim Scrip to SPECSAVERS in CESSNOCK STORE, Waited for a week only to find they got my Script WRONG ! Back to Melbourne to HOPEFULLY Correct their error ! Still waiting for phone call to tell me to pick up ! After all this stuffing around and nonsense, they have lost my confidence. Won’t be going back due to their miss diagnosis and poor attention to detail. BTW, I have been a loyal customer with SpecSavers for 15+ years BUT enough is enough.

Follow-up  · Interim glasses took another 9 days to arrive back from Melbourne, finally after nearly 3 weeks of mucking around SpecSavers got it right, I could see and read again ! Yes, they did “explain” how they read my Script incorrectly !!! How does this even happen is beyond me. To sum up my experience , it was simply horrible.

Year-long defect ignored—now told to buy my own parts! Shocking service. I bought a pair of plastic prescription frames from SPECSAVERS PARRAMATTA, LEVEL 5 about a year ago, and it has been an absolute nightmare. The frame relies on stick-on nose pads, but the glue they use is "rubbery," poor quality, and completely fails within two weeks. For… Read more

nearly a year, I have been trapped in a cycle of going back to the store, complaining about the quality, and getting them replaced. I asked for better quality pads, but nothing changed. Now, the store has run out of stock and had the nerve to tell me I need to go out and buy my own nose pads!

Under Australian Consumer Law, this is a major product failure. A business cannot just stop honouring a warranty because they ran out of stock, nor should a customer have to pay to fix a defective product. Specsavers corporate needs to step in, honour the consumer guarantees, and issue a full refund or a functional frame replacement immediately. Avoid this store if you value your time and consumer rights.

Hi, I don't write many reviews - because it takes time, and also, because on many occasions, some retailers or other service/product providers, don't deserve one. However, I do need to acknowledge the team at Specsavers in Warragul, Victoria. I have been a customer since .... way, way back - many years. I have found the staff and management… Read more

incredibly warm, competent, and always welcoming with genuine smiles and positivity. I've never had any major issues with my glasses - and I purchase three different types each time - distance, reading and prescription sunglasses. I have found my fabulous frames (only $149 for 2) to be incredibly durable, cosy and comfortable to wear and the prescriptions have at no time been wrong - ever! And I'm sharing with you - it has to be from day 1, when Warragul opened its store. Thank you to the team at Specsavers Warragul - you always look after me, you are all so welcoming and it is never a problem to ask questions, which are at all times, provided with genuine care and knowledge. If I could give 10 stars, 100 stars - I have never felt or thought, I might need to go somewhere else. Highly recommend, with no doubts whatsoever, the team at Specsavers, Warragul. I started this journey for new glasses on 23rd December 2025 at one store. there were problems either with the placement of the script on the lenses or the fitting adjustment. this was not identified over successive return visits - we still DON'T KNOW. nothing that was tried worked. the script was accurate but nobody took the challenge to… Read more

persevere and investigate WHY the glasses that were made did not work effectively. I kept getting told "the script is accurate" - ?? . . . I agreed and added "so what's happened then?" I was attended to by a myriad of diffferent people. this was a mistake. each new person began at the beginning even tho I explained each time this was a RETURN visit. I soon realised I was now 'a bother' - not a customer who needed ongoing help. One fitter even told me "It's just YOU!" when she became exasperated. I informed her supervisor of her outburst. I suggested she receive some additional training in customer service. she could have simply suggested I be seen by a more experienced member of staff. Thankfully I WAS then attended to by a senior member of staff - to no avail unfortunately. I gave up after several months and evoked the 'full refund' guarantee.

I then went to Specsavers Gosford. I thought maybe faulty equipment was involved at the first store. After several appointments at Gosford the mystery remains.

A MAJOR difference tho was that Bianca LISTENED to my long and involved saga. she then said: "be sure to ask for me or Doug if I'm not here." that gave me great confidence that there would be a SYSTEMATIC approach from the outset to eliminate possible factors - not just 'a quick tweek' and "see how that goes for a month - bye!" as happened early on at the other store before I complained.

I then sort further advice and learnt a lot from an ophthalmologist. I have been well-treated and helped by Bianca and Doug each time. altho the vision problems I am having remain - they persevered until we exhausted all their available options. I have since returned to the Gosford outlet and received another full refund from them for the glasses they ordered on my behalf.

the 'Specsavers Guarantee' is the same. I found that the efforts made to honour it varied widely among the staff between stores.

*It's NOT what happens that counts - it's what Management DOES about it that counts. a BIG 'Thankyou!' to these two people."

I recently had an appointment with Jordan the audiologist at Warnbro Specsavers regarding my increasing deafness, which I assumed was just wax and age related nerve deafness. it turned out, there was no wax or nerve deafness. Instead, she identified more uncommon conductive deafness. Normal ear drum and no middle ear fluid making ossicle disease the likely cause. She immediately took action and wrote to my GP to organise a referral to a surgeon. I couldn't be more impressed with the care, expertise, and prompt service I received. Highly recommend Jordan at Specsavers Warnbro. And all bulk billed with no cost to me.

Discrimination against me, not offering me a discount because I'm not 'First Nations' is the reason I'll never purchase from you in the future, ever. flimsy cardboard case. I told my husband about the hard case that I was promised. He went back as I was at work, he explained about the hard case. They swapped the flimsy cardboard case for a square flimsy cardboard case. It was rubbish. You pay a lot for these glasses and a case that would protect them in your work or school bag is necessary. My daughter went to Laubman and Pank and I paid a lot less for her glasses and got a lovely sturdy hard case. So I recommend going to Laubman and Pank, cheaper and cases are better quality

Last few years all they want to do is jack up the prices and then quality is appalling. Online they say glasses are available for much less than in store. Last pair cost $600 and lasted a week. All set up these days to fleece people with and private health coverage. Don't go there if you don't have any. No wonder why private health is so expensive. Show details

Incompetent online customer service team. They made a false claim on my private insurance. I’ve been chasing up my refund for three weeks, but they keep procrastinating and giving me different versions of the story every time I call, completely wasting my time. They keep telling me it’s been processed, yet I still haven’t received my HICAPS refund after three weeks.
