 AI reviews summary

Recent feedback for Airtasker indicates a high level of dissatisfaction, primarily driven by a fee structure that many users perceive as "double-dipping" by charging both the task poster and the worker. Significant concerns have been raised regarding the platform's safety and vetting processes, with recurring reports of aggressive behaviour, no-shows, and substandard workmanship. Furthermore, the reliance on automated AI support and the lack of human intervention during disputes are major points of contention for both customers and taskers.

Pros
Ease of use for minor tasks: Some users find the platform effective for sourcing help for simple, low-risk household odd jobs like basic gardening or furniture assembly.
Quick responses: Several reviewers noted that they received multiple offers from workers within minutes of posting a task.
Successful service delivery: A small segment of users reported positive experiences with specific, professional tradies who completed work promptly and safely.
Cons
Exorbitant and opaque fees: Users frequently report being charged high "connection fees" (often around $50) in addition to commissions taken from the tasker (up to 22%), which many feel is excessive for the value provided.
Inadequate dispute resolution and support: There is a significant reliance on AI bots that fail to resolve complex issues; users report being unable to contact a human agent via phone or live chat when tasks go wrong or funds are withheld.
Aggressive and unvetted taskers: Multiple reports highlight safety concerns, including verbal abuse, demands for extra cash outside the platform, and property damage, with little to no recourse provided by Airtasker.
Restrictive communication and moderation: The platform's automated chat filters frequently block legitimate messages (such as addresses or site visit requests), making it difficult to clarify job scopes before payment is required.
Verdict

Airtasker is increasingly viewed by users as a high-risk platform due to its lack of accountability, high fee structure, and poor customer support. While it may serve for very simple, low-value tasks, it is not recommended for professional trade work or urgent services where reliability and safety are paramount.

1 iasif  · Worse app ever. Never got anything done from this app.
5 SAMSON JR B.  · Stephenne is the best customer support. He carefully reviewed my case.
1 Annie  · Fees too high. This platform is meant to be for small random takes no? High fees defeat the purpose. Won’t be using again.
1 kevin  · Why are these [people so hard to deal with ??? Cannot contact them and very risky to pay 100% upfront for a removalist who may not show up
1 Jaz  · I do not recommend using this app the customer service absolutely sucks. It is next to impossible to get to talk to a live agent.
2 Cjk  · Unfortunately it did not work for me! What I thought would be great worked out that they just cut prices to get the job, buyer beware. Never again

Booked a couch delivery through Airtasker and the Tasker damaged the hallway ceiling in my building moving it on a trolley. When I raised it with him, photos and invoice included, he flat out denied it and refused to take any responsibility, said he "didn't recall" it happening. evidence and a Tasker who won't cooperate, if your claim is under the insurance excess from Airtaasker, you're basically out of luck. I have to pay repair bill, nothing Airtasker could actually do to help.

So if something gets damaged on your job, don't expect the platform's insurance to actually help. It only kicks in for bigger claims, and a Tasker can deny everything with zero real consequence.

I am very satisfied with Airtasker on two tasks in Frankston VIC. I accepted two offers on the two tasks. One tasker had nothing to prove he had 10 years tiling experience. replacing. I urgently needed to get it done for my employee to live in the apartment on 19 July. I didn’t know how reliable the tasker was and accepted someone else to do the job on 18 July.

Airtasker refunded the payments I made including the connection fees.

Thank you very much indeed Airtasker Team.

Finally I would like the service fee is lowered. The fee for me to pay is 20%+GST, I think it’s quite high.

Yesterday I posted a handyman job for my unit. One of the door locks was broken. This is my second time using Airtasker to find a local service. The first one was paid through Airtasker. That's funny, for this sounds more like a scam, posting such a message under my job. If I am suspicious, why not ask me to fill in all the details when signing up? The company allows me to use their service without verification first, and suddenly asks for it on my second time looking for someone to get my job done. Already canceled the job and will not use it in the future. The Airtasker is successfully casting away a Sammer, congratulations!

Stay away from this tasker - massive scammer Task was for $50 (what he offered - I accepted and assigned) It became pretty clear when he couldn’t resolve the task that he had no idea what he was doing. completed and gave himself an extra $60! Then blocked me.

AT have now opened messaging back up to try and “resolve” the issue - let’s see if he pays back the $60 or scrams again. AT response also attached.

There’s also the fact that he wrote his own review! Disgusting. Why can’t AT just remove the whole thing, including him, which I’ve found out does this on a regular basis

I use AT for my side hustle and needed some help with fixing up something for this. I feel embarrassed and don’t know what to do, because AT do not even care

Suggestion to AirTasker: 1. Please upgrade your message Inbox to be able to attached multiple photos in higher definition so we avoid using alternative messaging apps like WhatsApp. After all, you want to keep messages within the app for monitoring. 2. Verify first the identity of the Posters before they would be able to accept an offer. Safety of the Taskers should also be considered. Show details

Avoid for anything requiring genuine skill or accountability. My Tasker subcontracted a post-renovation deep clean to an undisclosed third party without my consent — a clear breach of Airtasker's own Community Guidelines, which require Poster consent before subcontracting. The result was well below what was described in the listing, and I had to… Read more

redo parts of the work myself. Airtasker's Resolutions Team acknowledged the undisclosed subcontracting in writing and gave a partial refund, but when I pointed out the specific policy breach, the response ignored it entirely and fell back on generic boilerplate about vetting Taskers before engagement — which wasn't the issue I raised. They also refused to refund their own connection fee for a job delivered in breach of their own rules, and called the matter closed. I've since lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading. If you use this platform, get everything about who's doing the work in writing before you pay.

I joined AirTasker to have a new car stereo fitted. However, halfway through discussing the job with a potential tasker, we'd lose contact. This happened several times and I… Read more

had to re-post my task each time. As a last resort, I joined AirTasker membership for one year ($89) to open the communication channels. I selected a very pleasant Tasker who unfortunately was unable to complete the job. AirTasker deducted $240 for this job, however upon cancellation, they reassigned this $240 into credit to use on another Task. I went back to the original two potentially suitable Taskers and recommenced discussions, but 'Whammo' Blocked again (multiple times). I explained to Tasker that I took out Membership solely to stop the blocking, and this appears to be a violation of their standards. I received a reply apologising and blaming their website and/or computer system (I have this email). Also unfortunately, AirTasker do not engage in phone conversations. Another problem is that of the seven Taskers I contemplated using, one was surly and unapproachable, one lived in WA, three in Queensland and one in remote NSW. Only one was in my local NSW region and his reviews indicated that he was dishonest and unreliable. I asked AirTasker why he was still on their system and received no response. Surely their credibility is compromised because of his inclusion. Totally frustrated I advised that I wanted to withdraw from AirTasker and their non-functioning Membership scheme and wanted a full refund of both lots of monies. Their response was NO; our Policy is not to refund membership (once we've gotten our greedy hands on it). The other money ($240) was recredited to my Visa card today, after approximately three weeks of haggling. I recently lodged a complaint to ACCC, and NSW Fair Trading requesting their intervention. I will also consider taking legal action myself (regardless of the cost) if they continue to be intransigent. Sorry AirTasker but you have failed me, and who knows, who else, and I will never use your sham service ever again?

As of 2026, I have observed that task budgets have become increasingly smaller, particularly in the lawn mowing and gardening sector. The work posted often requires more effort than the budget allows, leading taskers to accept jobs that fall below the Australian award wage. This situation fosters a perception that such low prices are standard, which is disrespectful to legitimate businesses. Show details

How this electrician got away with damaging my wall and leaving me with a $410 repair bill was not okay. He is still permitted to accept jobs from airtasker and faces zero penalties! not the criteria and reasons why I am being rejected.

After navigating your site I did find this area myself but far from a pleasant customer experience, in fact your moderated bots make one feel gaslit and far from a valued customer whom has spent and worked as both tasker and job lister I am mind blown by the company's lack of disregard and care factors for the overall customer experience such as how I was treated by your moderator with my inadequate timely response to a regular customers rehire request and was brutally harsh to say the least with the response I received stating I would now be reduced to visibility on further jobs for my tardiness which is an honest mistake when notifications won't set as I wasn't pitching fro jobs at the time, therfor did not expect the request but was only hours after the strict timeframe when I did see the rehire request but by then I had been told I was punished from this company for the delay.

What I find particularly frustrating is that I have successfully completed alcohol-related jobs in the past, yet I am now facing restrictions that seem excessive and are not properly explained. The issue is not simply the decision itself, but the complete lack of transparency around how that decision was reached.

The AI systems being used do not adequately explain the reason for decisions, do not direct users to the correct information, and do not provide meaningful pathways to resolve issues. As a customer, the experience is incredibly frustrating.

What concerns me most is that a company operating at this scale appears to have lost sight of the customer experience. Taskers/workers like me on the platform are constantly judged on customer service standards and reviewed publically, responsiveness and communication, yet when we need assistance ourselves, we are often met with automated responses, unclear explanations, and little to no practical support. It's infuriatingly ironic!

As someone who has been involved with AI technology since its early stages and has participated as an early adopter and tester, I do not believe these systems are ready to fully automate moderation and decision-making at the volume they currently are. The result is that genuine people are being rejected, restricted, or penalised by systems that cannot properly assess context and provide no meaningful avenue for review.

It is disappointing to see companies taking significant commissions while simultaneously reducing access to human support and expecting users to simply accept automated outcomes "however they are getting better every day" is inadequate and does not fly with me and many others I speak with about this company and others whom are choosing to put all trust in these systems prematurely.

After repeated issues and ongoing frustration with the support experience, I no longer intend to use the platform. The lack of accountability, transparency and genuine customer service has been shocking.

Airtasker has become a truly deplorable platform, and in recent years it seems to have sunk to new lows. Rather than addressing its excessive fee structure — effectively double dipping by charging substantial fees to both Taskers and posters — the company has instead introduced incentives encouraging repeat bookings through the platform by… Read more

offering reduced service fees on rebooked tasks.

Ultimately, this only benefits the platform itself. Once an initial connection has been made, there is very little incentive for either the Tasker or the poster to continue paying exorbitant fees simply to maintain an ongoing working relationship.

Reports suggest Airtasker continues to post significant annual losses while aggressively pursuing international expansion and additional funding. At the same time, its stagnant share price has led many to question the long-term sustainability of what is increasingly viewed as a deeply flawed business model.

The core problem is simple: the platform relies heavily on extracting revenue from both sides of the transaction while offering limited long-term value beyond the initial introduction. Rather than addressing growing dissatisfaction surrounding excessive fees, declining service quality, and platform sustainability, Airtasker appears more focused on short-term revenue measures and expansion projects.

Another major criticism is the platform’s heavy reliance on AI systems and the apparent lack of accessible human customer support. When issues arise, many users report being trapped in automated support loops with little opportunity to speak to a real person or receive meaningful assistance.

The platform also appears to have minimal screening or verification processes for new accounts. As a result, remote design and digital-based tasks are often flooded with extremely low-cost offers from overseas users willing to heavily undercut local pricing. This has created an increasingly frustrating environment for experienced Australian freelancers and designers attempting to compete fairly while maintaining professional standards and sustainable pricing.

For many professionals, Airtasker no longer rewards skill, reliability, or long-term client relationships. Instead, the platform increasingly encourages a race to the bottom, where quality and professionalism are overshadowed by whoever is willing to complete the work for the cheapest possible price.

Rather than investing in stronger customer support, fairer fee structures, or improved quality control, the company appears primarily focused on maximising revenue to fund advertising campaigns and ambitious global expansion plans.

For many hardworking Australians, the platform no longer feels like a system designed to support local freelancers and small businesses — it feels like a marketplace built to maximise profits into the pockets of Tim Fung at any cost.
