I was an Alinta customer for over 10 years, with both my home and business accounts, and unfortunately my experience has left me deciding to move both elsewhere. After installing solar at my business, I experienced a prolonged metering issue that resulted in my account being billed using estimated readings for almost a year. During that time I… Read more
spent countless hours following up, trying to understand what was happening and coordinating between Alinta, SA Power Networks and other parties.
What disappointed me most wasn't just the technical issue itself, these things can happen, but the overall customer experience.
Communication was often slow, I repeatedly had to chase updates, and I encountered delays because I wasn't initially recognised as the authorised account holder, despite dealing directly with metering technicians and the account being billed in the business name throughout the process.
When the matter was finally reviewed, I felt the investigation focused narrowly on justifying the estimated billing rather than acknowledging the significant inconvenience and time involved over the previous year. A goodwill payment was offered, but there was very little recognition of the customer experience that led to it.
To make matters more frustrating, I had solar installed at my home around the same time, under similar circumstances, and that account reflected the expected reduction in electricity imports. My business account did not, leading to months of uncertainty and ongoing correspondence.
I appreciate that the staff I dealt with were polite and professional, and I understand some issues involve external parties such as the distributor. However, as the retailer I dealt with, I expected stronger ownership of the problem and more proactive communication.
After more than a decade as a loyal customer, I expected a much better experience. Unfortunately, I no longer have confidence in Alinta and will be moving both my home and business accounts to another retailer.
Login and try to update gas plan but always says unavailable and call us?? Why have online service if it is not available??? Pathetic. based call centre but too lazy to answer the phone. I will be advising all my Vic counterparts to be cautious and consider other providers.
How does a client get through if they have hardship issues? All I wanted to do was update a gas plan? But no?? Lets be on hold for hours. Others have overseas call centres but atleast they answer the call.
EWOV I will keep you busy. Alinta! Pathetic.

Never using Alinta again. They charged a 50 dollar over due fee. When the actual email said it is due not for another month. That is why I didn’t pay it immediately. They didn’t give me a normal amount of time to pay my last gas bill after I moved house. They were aggressive with the bill was I have moved. Show details

Excellent Customer Service - Plus INCREDIBLE Rates & discounts! – Alinta has done it again!! Who else can say that they have received a (3) THREE MONTH GAS bill for the grand total of $14: 30 ?? :YES. $14:30: A short time ago, I was chatting with Gary, who suggested that I move to a new plan for both my Gas & Electricity, which would save me some money, so I did it. He also shared that I would receive a $100… Read more · 2
discount off each of the first bills. So this is the fantastic result. Even without the massive discount, my monthly bills would have equalled only $38:10. Supply and usage. Thank you Gary, and THANK YOU Alinta. I am forced to say it again . . . . " BIG ENOUGH TO DO YOUR BUSINESS - Small enough to Care xx" I am looking forward to receiving my FIRST Electricity bill on the new plan too. Leoniejb

Everything they promised and more – I got approached in our local shopping centre and we were just about to look at moving house. Our electricity bill with the previous provider was always between $700-$900 per month. Our bills came down dramatically I was shocked. Not only that everytime I phone them the staff are more than accommodating and helpful. I since have made the change to my business account also which has been just as great. Cant recommend them enough! Show details · 1
Better ask your crystal ball for the best price – On February 3, 2025, alintaenergy will reduce the feed in for solar from 8 cents to 4 cents. Energy Made Easy still offers its plan with an annual contract with 8 cents/kWh solar upload. A call was pointless because they referred to the electricity provider's upload. They don't seem to understand that this encourages fraud against customers. When… Read more
I asked if they could at least remove this misleading advertising, I was told that the matter would be brought to the attention of the responsible supervisor. Until something happens, many customers will be ripped off. At least, it's not the first time that's happened to me.

Unexpected charges – Three stars because I have been with Alinta for 6 years. I had no problems at all, until their prices increased and unexplained chargings on my account. I honestly thought they were okay until a recent bill I paid off was charged again. have an owing amount on that same bill. I have been going back and forth with emailing them and I have also tried calling about it and all they keep telling me is that I have an owing amount. I have all the proof and evidence to back up my statement, that they just overlook. I did ask where my money for that specific bill went, I am waiting for a response (I keep you updated). Honestly, they have lost a loyal customer after this experience.

Goodbye Alinta - 5 star service but 0 star “is this for real?” rates! – It’s goodbye for the 2nd time in 10 years due to uncompetitive rates. I joined Alinta way back in 2014 as they had very good rates. Switched to Origin when I installed solar as Origin’s FIT was double what Alinta was giving me. However, Origin whittled away their FIT and upped their rates every year till it became uncompetitive, so it was back to… Read more
Alinta.
I must say however, in my experience at least, both Alinta and Origin customer agents gave me 5-star service in the time I was with them. Very prompt, polite and professional. They also knew their products.
As for customer usage tracking, Origin’s app was superb. Real-time data provided was fantastic for tracking usage and forecasting costs for budgeting. In this area, Alinta was so far behind it was hardly a speck on the horizon.
Now, Alinta has outdone themselves in rates - basically (and practically) supplying electricity at the maximum reference rates (See photos). Origin is also very expensive, so after comparing rates at energymadeeasy and counterchecking at WATTever, checking ProductReview and other review sites, I have switched to OVO Energy. Sign up was very easy, and I will review when I have experienced a few months supply.
Wrong Accusation of Account Overdue: On 19 Dec 2025, I received a bill from Alinta, the due date of which is 14 Jan 2026. On 6 Jan 2026, I received another bill from Alinta, the due date of which is 28 Jan 2026. The second bill says in red colour, "Overdue - pay now". See attached screenshots of the bills. Show details

I did a comparison with other companies and was advised that I could be connected at the same rate as I had been with Alinta prior to the 30% hike. I changed provider and closed my Alinta account. Immediately I was informed that I now had to pay the Alinta bill at the late payment rate even though I had note on my bill which said I would be paying a reduced rate if it was paid by the due date. I called them and was advised that the excessive bill was the result of an ongoing computer glitch and I could ignore the late payment demand and just pay the usual "before the due date" price. Bad business practice in everything they do and say.
Follow-up · As I previously stated. I contacted Alinta and requested they help me resolve their problem. They point-blank refused to assist in this endeavour and insisted they were right and I was wrong. phoned them and they dropped fee. They said their site had a warning about fee. I didn’t see it. It was well hidden as I’m very careful . If I’d joined by phone they said I would have verbally been informed of fee. There is no way I would have joined Alinta if I’d been told about an application fee. And I’ve never been charged one by any other gas provider. And I’ve been with them all in WA.
Heads up check small print before signing up.

I signed up for this electricity plan based on the rates advertised on the company's website on **20/06/2026**: * **Daily Supply Charge:** 96.261 c/day * **Usage Charge:** 34.529 c/kWh for the first 10.959 kWh/day However, after only about 10 days, I checked my account and discovered that completely different rates had been applied: * **Daily… Read more · 1
Supply Charge:** 114.081 c/day * **Peak Usage Charge:** 32.593 c/kWh * **Demand Charge:** 10.153 c/kW
The demand charge was never part of the plan I signed up for, and these were not the rates that influenced my decision to switch.
When I first contacted customer service, they were unable to explain why the rates were different or provide any meaningful assistance, which was very disappointing.
However, after lodging a formal complaint, my experience changed completely. The complaints representative handled the matter very **professionally, courteously, and efficiently**. They understood the issue immediately and resolved my complaint during a phone call that lasted less than five minutes. I genuinely appreciate how quickly and fairly the complaints team addressed the problem.
While the initial sign-up experience and customer service need significant improvement, I am pleased with how the complaints department ultimately resolved the issue.

Mr. Dutton has claimed people are paying $1300.00, now he doesn't say if that is a month or for twelve months, if it is a month then the home is in crises and a good hard look at their usage should take place, I it is for 12 months then I find that very reasonable. them very professional, with their billing it is right every time and the lay out is good and litigable, also the cost of the supply is very reasonable. They also engage in discounted sales of extended companies, these are wonderful for the city dwellers, but country folk would need to travel to the city to take advantage of these offers. In my time I've been with many providers of electricity, and never been really happy with them, but Alinta Energy has made me very happy indeed, keep up the good work guys. Raymond.

I decided to give Alinta another go, but after a few months wanted to switch, so I went through AGL and signed up with them…. Then the fun started with incompetent Alinta. they send another invoice to May 31st, just a few dollars more, but in big bold red letters stated that the amount was overdue and to pay immediately. Despite this it gave a payment date of June 23rd again, with an auto pay. Then just to prove their total incompetence, yesterday, the 19th of May the auto pay went through 4 days early. So in the space of 1 invoice they managed to bill me twice, presumably incorrectly once, accuse me of being late on a payment that wasn’t due for another 3 weeks, then deducted the balance 4 days early. So well done, only 3 or 4 errors on one invoice period. Maybe you should get the help of a company that does this for a living, oh yes, sorry, you do !!!

I was a loyal Alinta customer on their HomeSaver Essential plan. Without any proactive communication, my contract quietly expired and I was rolled onto their Standing Offer — the most expensive plan they offer, equivalent to the maximum Default Market Offer price set by the AER. to 2c/kWh — half the rate offered by competitors — while simultaneously increasing the daily supply charge from $1.17 to $1.78/day, an increase of over $220/year just to be connected. The peak usage window is also expanding from 4–8pm to 4–9pm, adding further cost.
When I looked into it, Alinta's own bill acknowledged their HomeDeal Select plan would save me over $540/year compared to what they were already charging me. They knew I was overpaying and did not proactively move me to a better plan.
I have now switched to EnergyAustralia and will be saving approximately $525 in the first year alone. If you have solar and are still with Alinta, I'd strongly recommend checking what plan you're actually on — you may be paying far more than you need to.

We signed up with alinta in feb 2026. On the May bill there was a discrepancy between kw used and kw charged. the peak hour periods. From the explanation provided it is my understanding that over the billing period, thru a smart meter, the elec retailer records your highest usage in a 15/30 minute period during the peak hours and then multiplies that kw usage by the number of billing days. So, you are charged at the highest usage rate, not the lowest or average, for power you have already paid for. This, in my opinion, is deceitful and underhanded. When signing with alinta the staff member may no mention of this demand tariff. If they would have, I would have chosen a different plan/electricity retailer.
