AI reviews summary
Teachers Health Fund receives high praise for its customer service, with members frequently highlighting the professionalism and helpfulness of phone-based consultants. Long-term loyalty is a significant theme, as many members have remained with the fund for several decades, citing competitive premiums and better-than-average rebates compared to other providers. While the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, some recurring issues regarding claim processing and digital transitions have been noted.
Pros
- Exceptional Customer Service: Staff are consistently described as knowledgeable, patient, and empathetic. Consultants often go beyond answering basic queries by providing proactive advice on how to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and navigate hospital gap schemes.
- Strong Value and Competitive Rebates: Members frequently report saving significant amounts on premiums when switching from major competitors, while also receiving higher rebates for services like dental and surgery.
- Ease of Switching and Onboarding: The process of joining or transferring from another fund is described as seamless and stress-free, with staff providing clear side-by-side comparisons to assist in decision-making.
- Responsive Support for Surgery: When members call to verify coverage for upcoming procedures, they receive detailed information, follow-up emails with guides, and specific questions to ask their medical providers.
Cons
- Claim Processing Issues: Some members have reported problems with claims being incorrectly rejected, cancelled without notification, or missed by automated AI systems, requiring manual intervention to resolve.
- Digital and App Glitches: There are reports of difficulties with the mobile app, including issues with digital cards, login errors on older devices, and a confusing automated phone menu.
- Lack of Loyalty Rewards: Despite many members having 40 to 60 years of tenure, there are complaints regarding a lack of financial incentives or premium discounts for long-term, low-claiming senior members.
- Communication Gaps: A few reports indicate that information regarding policy changes or bank detail updates was not always clearly communicated or actioned promptly.
Verdict
Teachers Health Fund is highly regarded for its human-centric customer service and superior value, making it a strong choice for those eligible in the education and health sectors. It is particularly effective for members navigating complex hospital procedures or seeking to reduce premiums without sacrificing coverage. However, members should be diligent in monitoring their claims history to ensure automated systems have processed them correctly.
I had a problem setting up my new address on the website, given it's in a new apartment block and there are always problems when one attempts to change to a new address in a new building. I was very fortunate in having Viki from Teachers Health to help me. She was outstanding in her swift, efficient, accurate and highly personable service and… Read more

Excellent service, no pressure to sign anything. Sandy was very easy to chat with and very helpful. Helped me understand what my private health policy actually covers and what I actually need. Highly recommend! Show details
I just called Teacher's health with some general enquiries. The representative, R.C. was very helpful and was able to explain my cover in detail. This is a high standard of customer service I have never experienced in the insurance industry before. Show details

Great service from Daniel surry hills office. Spoke to a few providers and Daniel was by far the best and most attentive. I’ll be asking all my friends family and clients whom are teachers to contact Daniel directly! Show details · 1
First Class Response! – I was planning on cancelling my cover and taking up a cheaper option with another company that provided just about the same cover. I wasn't angry or anything, just seeking a better deal for what I was paying. I spoke with Hulya Kocak, and from the outset she was just the kindest, understanding and patient person to help me with my inquiry. She… Read more · 1
explained everything so clearly and took into account that there were lots of things I didn't understand as my late wife usually handled these things. She made me feel that it was okay to ask any questions which she cheerfully responded to. I did not have to push or ask for reductions or additions to my policy as she put them forward to me first. If anything, she offered far more than what I expected and was clearly sorting out the best deal possible for me. I felt like I was talking to a real person instead of just someone doing a job. She was utterly magnificent and she made my day. I have just tested positive to Covid for the first time after being able to dodge it for 5 years, so I wasn't feeling great, but Hulya changed everything and put me in a better mindset. We have been long term customers of Teachers Health and I feel a level of loyalty to stay with them (which I have done) and my experience with Hulya today, and also Lachlan who I spoke with earlier has done nothing to make me want to leave. She is a credit to the organisation!!!
Under the veneer! – Pleasant approach and cooperative attention to detail from Sean. Thank you. Show details · 1

being 20 years with previous company I held Major dental cover of $1400 pa. Teachers quoted $1300 pa. I am willing to accept the $100 pa drop on this benefit. They are only honouring year 1 of my previous company which is $700 pa and the remaining $600 is subject to a 12 month wait period. Teachers Health are very avoidant at admitting the reason for this lower amount, persistently referring me back to previous company and stating it is the previous company’s clearance certificate stating the lower amount. This is untrue as the clearance certificate states no $ amount. All $ amounts are found on the internal super site initiated by Government to support consumers swapping super companies. I have spent hours talking on the phone and in person. Currently in process of complaints procedure and possibly Ombudsman investigation.
Follow-up · Teachers health have refused to waive the waiting period despite evidence of my 20 year membership on Gold cover with BUPA. They instruct me to contact BUPA (again) to obtain evidence, despite it being their responsibility under the transfer process. It has been most frustrating and has had a very negative effect on my mental health. I accept they have won I do not have the energy to fight the system.
Follow-up · Following an Ombudsman intervention Teachers Health now claim it is impossible for them to remove the waiting period shown on their App. And say ‘if you submit a claim manually we will assess it for payment. It took an Ombudsman complaint before… Read more

time to understand my situation and what mattered most to me, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all response.
What really stood out was her depth of knowledge. I came in with four different questions across various areas of my policy, and Viki was able to confidently answer every single one without needing to transfer me to another department. That level of expertise made the whole process seamless and incredibly reassuring.
More importantly, i felt that her goal was not to just try to retain me as a customer but she actually presented real, practical options that could ease the financial strain on my family while still maintaining the level of care we need. It felt like she genuinely cared about finding the right solution for us, not just ticking a box.
Thanks to Viki’s professionalism, empathy, and knowledge, I not only decided to keep my cover but also feel much more confident that I’m with the right provider. Truly outstanding service.

Lodged a claim for a blood pressure monitor. I copped a written lecture about how to claim and what brands etc.. I didn't need that, it was all there. The pharmacy receipt for the monitor included my doctor's name, my doctor's provider number and my doctor's referral number for the purchase. It was replacing one that I purchased 5 years ago which… Read more
finally "died." To play it safe I put a copy of the blood pressure medication script to confirm my doctor's name and provider number as detailed on the pharmacy receipt and his actual signature. But no, not good enough. Go back, pay my doctor's consult fee of $105 oops no, $150 - a long consult will be needed and get him to complete a form; to confirm that a blood pressure monitor is needed to help manage my health/improve a specific medical condition. I am lost for words. His referral and provider number were on the pharmacy receipt. Why the hell would anyone buy a blood pressure monitor for any other reason than to monitor blood pressure? What are the ramifications of not monitoring blood pressure? Severe; expensive; deadly. A zillion emails and gotten nowhere. The first health fund I have encountered that doesn't give a damn about proactive health management. A doctor's provider number, referral number and the doctor's name and address aren't good enough. Spend $150 to get back $40. Yep makes sense. Just as much sense as not monitoring my blood pressure. Which appears to be Teacher's Health approach.

My wife had a surgery at westmead private on 14th December 2024. Because it was a emergency we paid up-front all the costs. On 10th July I went to Parramatta office to claim refund. The lady at the counter advised that I should go to Westmead private and get a form HC21. Next day on 11th I along with my wife went to West mead and were told that… Read more · 1
they can not provide that because you were self funded even though the hospital had our health fund details which were provided in the form. we requested her to show us our form, which she printed and we showed her all the details on the form. Disappointed we went back to Parramatta, as I was explaining to the lady at the counter, Sam Naidu came forward to help us. She contacted the hospital which kept on transfering the call from one person to other, after quite a while got the right person and explained the situation to them. Sam was able to convince them that they had made a mistake by pointing out that their invoice had the health fund's number which they have ignored. We were told that westmead hospital would send a form via email to my wife which after signing she returned immediately. We were told that this resolved matter would settled in a day or two. Sam Naidu was very courteous and helpful she remained very calm and professional throughout this process. Without her help I would not have been able to get straight answer. I wish her best.

Not worth paying $260 a month for. Had surgery to extract wisdom teeth, barely getting $700 back from a $3200 surgery cost. And can not claim any of the anaethestist. Better off saving your money and paying all out of pocket and paying the govt the extra tax. Teachers Health one of the most expensive premiums that gives you basically nothing back. About to cancel my Health Fund, over lining their profits. Show details

I've been a Top Extras member for 23 years and would have given the Fund 5 stars for the first 12 years of membership.
