Verdict
Overall sentiment toward Teachers Health is overwhelmingly positive, with members frequently praising the high standard of customer service and the ease of managing policies and claims. Many long-term members express loyalty, citing competitive value and knowledgeable staff who assist in navigating complex health cover and procedures. While a small subset of reviews points to challenges with claim outcomes or administrative processes, the prevailing experience reflects strong satisfaction with both the fund's offerings and its support team.
I’m so glad we have signed up to Teachers Health, the plans are easy to compare and they cover so much more the other health insurance companies. Jonathan from Teachers Health was absolutely amazing he explained in detail all of the policies, which made it easy to work out the best cover for our needs. Show details

Great service from Daniel surry hills office. Spoke to a few providers and Daniel was by far the best and most attentive. I’ll be asking all my friends family and clients whom are teachers to contact Daniel directly! Show details · 1
TEACHERS HEALTH INSURANCE UNCARING AND A CRUEL ADMINISTRATIVE NIGHTMARE — Union member or not, do not be fooled … there is nothing “united” about Teachers Health. Their appalling treatment beggars belief. “They are members not profit” - absolutely untrue “We’re for care when you need it” … unless we can possibly avoid it!! “We’re for the… Read more
greater good” … if the greater good is the profit of teachers health fund!
Hype with no substance! … do not refer a friend… do not collect $50, you could cost your friend their health!
Sadly, I witnessed unconscionable behaviour from Teachers Health fund towards my daughter today.
Following bizarre attempts to delay acknowledgement of my daughter’s request for me to speak on her behalf, I spent over 2 hours talking to 3 different staff members including 77 minutes ‘escalation’ to an officious, extremely condescending, unsympathetic and rude “Customer Service” agent.
Following complications from a tragic missed miscarriage and subsequent D&C (covered by teachers health) my 27 year old daughter suffered horrific cramping caused by a series of unfortunate complications involving an infection that required urgent IV antibiotics to prevent sepsis and/or infertility.
Unfortunately, the public hospital treating her could not provide gynecological services and needed to transfer her to an appropriate facility. Her treating gynecological specialist arranged for her to be admitted to a local private hospital for urgent treatment.
Unfortunately, despite having been insured with Teachers Health for nine months, and despite previously being “covered” for the original procedure (10 weeks ago), Teachers Heath refused to approve her admission until a pre-existing condition form was completed forcing admission of a pre existing condition that did not exist. Privatehealth.gov.au, a federal site listing rules for private health insurers, clearly states that any complication arising from a procedure previously covered by an insurer MUST be covered! However Teachers Health chose to ignore this and rely on their independent medical advisors (subsequently paid a “fee” for their service to Teachers Health Fund (independent??) to determine the outcome of her coverage … coverage that any other health fund would pay for without hesitation. They refused to speak to or be advised by the treating specialist. Instead they advised their “Independent Medical Advisor” could take five days to process.
Five days!
She doesn’t have five days and from their own definition, she does NOT have a pre existing condition! This miscarriage of justice has exacerbated her original grief and impacted any chance of a seamless recovery. She is seriously unwell and in need of appropriate care, yet instead of providing what she has paid for, Teachers Health has hidden behind paperwork and a cruel administrative process clearly aimed at delaying tactics ensuring she is forced to undergo surgery in an overcrowded, public system instead of the private system she has paid for with a specialist that knows her body and her history.
This company were “full on hard sell with promises” when my daughter spoke to them in January encouraging union-for-the-people benefits, but when a seriously, ill young woman needs urgent treatment, in spite of repeated pleas to expedite the process, Teachers Health has only provided rude, unhelpful and unsympathetic bureaucracy that ensures they will evade the service that my daughter has paid richly for.
DO NOT USE TEACHERS HEALTH INSURANCE. Go to a major provider who will stand behind their product and care for the people they represent. Shame on you Teachers Health!
First Class Response! – I was planning on cancelling my cover and taking up a cheaper option with another company that provided just about the same cover. I wasn't angry or anything, just seeking a better deal for what I was paying. I spoke with Hulya Kocak, and from the outset she was just the kindest, understanding and patient person to help me with my inquiry. She… Read more · 1
explained everything so clearly and took into account that there were lots of things I didn't understand as my late wife usually handled these things. She made me feel that it was okay to ask any questions which she cheerfully responded to. I did not have to push or ask for reductions or additions to my policy as she put them forward to me first. If anything, she offered far more than what I expected and was clearly sorting out the best deal possible for me. I felt like I was talking to a real person instead of just someone doing a job. She was utterly magnificent and she made my day. I have just tested positive to Covid for the first time after being able to dodge it for 5 years, so I wasn't feeling great, but Hulya changed everything and put me in a better mindset. We have been long term customers of Teachers Health and I feel a level of loyalty to stay with them (which I have done) and my experience with Hulya today, and also Lachlan who I spoke with earlier has done nothing to make me want to leave. She is a credit to the organisation!!!
Under the veneer! – Pleasant approach and cooperative attention to detail from Sean. Thank you. Show details · 1

We had been deciding to change our Health fund, of over 40 years, for various reasons. We spoke with Theresa Fernandez, who knew the product very well and was able to answer our questions patiently and sometimes repeatedly! Show details · 1
Follow-up · We have some unexpected medical and dental needs since we changed to Teachers Health. We haven't had any problems with claiming. We haven't used the on-line process, only to refer back to our cover. The sign-up process went without worries for us as Teachers Health handled the entire process. Thank you

Johny O’Brien Conor was succinct, easy to understand and gave me all the answers I required to make informed decisions. He also ‘showed’ me the best way to navigate the Funds ‘home’ page. Great customer service, thank you.
Follow-up · Prepaying is always worthwhile as it is at last year’s prices! In the end I didn’t choose any extras as my lifestyle (and general good health) didn’t seem to warrant it with the Seniors Rebates being reduced.
I am very happy with Teachers Health - they have been very helpful during my recent surgery - I have been a member for nearly 60 years and will continue for the rest of my life Show details · 1

I recently decided to leave Teachers Health and move to NIB, mainly because I believed it would be a much cheaper option. Instead, he simply took the time to explain my… Read more · 1
options clearly, compare the different levels of cover and give me the information I needed to make an informed decision.
After being with Teachers Health for almost 49 years, I had originally thought it was probably time to move on. However, Roger showed me that by changing my level of hospital cover, I could significantly reduce my costs while still retaining cover that suited my needs.
His friendly, professional and completely pressure-free approach strongly influenced my decision to remain with Teachers Health.
Excellent customer service from someone who genuinely seemed more interested in helping me make the right decision than simply trying to make a sale.
Thank you, Roger. Your assistance was very much appreciated.

Throughout our conversation, Loki was incredibly patient, supportive, considerate and helpful. He took the time to listen carefully to my concerns, provided clear advice and useful information to assist me in understanding what I could do next, and made sure I felt heard and supported.
I was understandably quite upset and became teary during our conversation, and I especially appreciated the kindness, patience and compassion Loki showed me. He never made me feel rushed or uncomfortable and remained calm, responsive and considerate throughout the call.
Dealing with a difficult and personal situation like this can be overwhelming, and having someone respond with genuine empathy while also providing practical assistance made a significant difference.
Thank you, Loki, for your professionalism, patience, kindness and excellent customer service. Your support today was genuinely appreciated.

time to understand my situation and what mattered most to me, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all response.
What really stood out was her depth of knowledge. I came in with four different questions across various areas of my policy, and Viki was able to confidently answer every single one without needing to transfer me to another department. That level of expertise made the whole process seamless and incredibly reassuring.
More importantly, i felt that her goal was not to just try to retain me as a customer but she actually presented real, practical options that could ease the financial strain on my family while still maintaining the level of care we need. It felt like she genuinely cared about finding the right solution for us, not just ticking a box.
Thanks to Viki’s professionalism, empathy, and knowledge, I not only decided to keep my cover but also feel much more confident that I’m with the right provider. Truly outstanding service.

I hope I can be convinced that this case is an aberration. If in fact the staff are so inadequately trained, I will take my family's business elsewhere so that I can get better service.
