organised team of workers. We were happy with the service right from the planning to the very end. We went into the showroom several times before deciding and always felt the service was friendly and helpful. No question from us was regarded as trivial. Once the design was decided we agreed to the fixed price and went ahead. The company aims to have a functional kitchen by the end of a week. The assigned project manager with the company was always willing to discuss any concerns- indeed welcomed them. He was very diligent in his followup and checking on the schedule of works. Their service and the quality of the kitchen was beyond expectations! I couldn't see any cost cutting on their behalf. Transactions were transparent and we received a quality service and product- not cheap but I believe the company prides itself on continuing with their good product and reputation. Their end goal was a happy customer. It shows in the end product- and the recommendations supplied to us for tradespeople proved to be quality work also. Highly recommended.

contract was made we finally are rid of contractors. They market themselves as so much more and detract from the brand reputation of Freedom. There is so much talk about "CUSTOM" during the enquiry process and design only to later discover that all diagrams and measurements asked to sign off on are simply "illustration purposes only" and the thieves who run the business hide behind the claim we are a supply-only joinery company. The service has been atrocious from the designers, the failed & wrong deliveries and the so-called "Customer service" has been non-existent. And all of this for the privilege of investing more than $40K on what could have been bought from IKEA or Bunnings and installed for much less - after all NOTHING provided was custom and is all what suits the supply only joinery company that markets itself as "Freedom Kitchens". Perhaps these criminals consider freedom as being a dictatorship whereby unassuming customers do not have any choice and must pay in full 100% before the pre-fabricated panels are dispatched from the warehouse. Also, numerous emails to Freedom Kitchens management & Freedom itself have gone both unacknowledged and unanswered which is a further disappointment that a customers concerns and anguish have gone unnoticed further confirming that the criminal-like behaviour of this business. I can assure you that the service and product I received for $40K is nothing like the service and product that is marketed by this organization nor how they are perceived on supposedly quality programs such as The Block. To confirm my beliefs on the nefarious actions of this business, every single trade recommended and used by this organization, from the delivery through to the installer, plumber, electrician and glass splash back ALL unanimously volunteered that EVERY SINGLE job they do with Freedom Kitchens has dozens of issues leaving customers frustrated. Sadly and again regrettably having chosen Freedom Kitchens, less than 3 weeks after install, I already have faulty components showing up despite their assertion that only "Premier Grade" equipment is used. The draws are poorly constructed with the sides and backing falling apart having never even been screwed in and awaiting a response from them to claim the 7 year warranty. Seems that they have all my money are will only speak to me if I want to replace the brand new "designer kitchen" that they have just supplied me. Caveat emptor - Let the buyer beware.

the Capalaba store.
To be completely transparent, I was a very reluctant participant at the start. I wasn’t convinced we even needed a kitchen revamp and I was absolutely adamant that I wanted only white cupboards and a white benchtop. That was the first time (and definitely not the last!) I heard Tracie gently ask, “Are you sure?”
What followed was nothing short of mind-blowing.
Tracie introduced ideas we had never even considered — and somehow they turned out to be exactly what we wanted. There were no pushy sales pitches, no pressure, just patience and expertise. She worked with us while we dithered over decisions and she very quickly realised that I’m a visual person. Instead of telling me how something would look, she showed me. She patiently walked me through layouts and finishes, waiting for me to catch up with what she already knew would work beautifully.
Tracie didn’t just help us choose cupboard facings and benchtops — she completely reimagined our space. Working solely from our badly hand-drawn scribbles (and without ever seeing our home in person!), she suggested shifting a wall by 60cm. That one change transformed how we could use the entire wall and dramatically improved the functionality of our kitchen.
She helped us design not only our dream kitchen, but also a butler’s pantry/laundry that is both stunning and incredibly practical. We knew we had absolutely nailed the design when I realised I can literally spin in place to unpack the dishwasher — no more walking all over the kitchen to put things away. It just works.
Once everything was selected, checked and rechecked, installation was booked in. Unfortunately — and through no fault of KUB — the installation coincided with Cyclone Alfred and we lost power for five days. Yet even then, KUB went above and beyond. Bruce turned up with his generator and radio and just kept building cupboards like an absolute professional (and tolerated having a 5 and 1 year old under his feet). That level of commitment and dedication speaks volumes.
We did experience a couple of minor hiccups — the porcelain backsplash didn’t align perfectly, and the stone contractor installed stone instead of porcelain in the pantry. But once again, Tracie handled everything immediately and without hesitation. There was no argument, no defensiveness — just swift action to have everything corrected as soon as possible at no additional cost to us.
When the kitchen and pantry were complete, Tracie personally came out to inspect everything herself to ensure it was perfect — and it absolutely was.
We cannot thank Tracie and the entire KUB team enough. They didn’t just renovate our kitchen — they transformed our home. Their patience, creativity, professionalism, and genuine care made what could have been a stressful process an incredibly positive experience.
If you’re considering a renovation, do yourself a favour and visit KUB Capalaba. You’ll be in the very best hands.

renovation as being a single woman, its sometimes hard to find tradies to trust.
After purchasing a new kitchen benchtop from a big box supplier, I unfortunately discovered it was faulty and had to return it. Andrew made the entire replacement process so much easier and arranged for his team to install a beautiful new benchtop.
A special mention to George, whose workmanship was nothing short of perfection. The benchtop installation was completed with incredible precision and attention to detail.
Heath, the electrician Andrew recommended, was absolutely brilliant. His professionalism, knowledge, and quality of work were exceptional.
And finally, Ray the tiler deserves enormous praise. Now in his 70s, he doesn't rely on laser levels or modern gadgets—just years of experience and a remarkable eye for detail. Every single tile has been laid perfectly, and the finished result is simply stunning.
It's rare to find a team of tradespeople who all take such pride in their work. Their craftsmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail have transformed my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the result. moment we walked into the Seven Hills showroom, I knew we were in the right place. We arranged for Vagn to visit our home to assess the space, take measurements, and discuss possibilities. A few weeks later we saw the rendered design, and it was as though he had read my mind. He created the perfect kitchen for us. Every stage of the project ran exactly as outlined in the contract. Even when a small hiccup occurred with the cooktop the day before completion, Vagn personally drove to collect a replacement so Reece, the electrician, could install it the next morning — ready for handover. Although we were living off‑site and didn’t meet most of the team, we did meet Greg. Every business should have a “Greg”. His meticulous attention to detail ensured everything was finished perfectly — and it truly was. We are extremely happy with Dan Kitchens and all their trades. received. From the very beginning, the process has been less than satisfactory. When we were in the design phase, the designer seemed more concerned about their soccer game than helping us. This lack of attention to detail carried over into the installation phase, where we were told we were short on cupboards and had to revisit the designs all over again. The warranty process has been equally frustrating. The customer service and support have been disappointing, to say the least. We've had our kitchen for only a few years, and the laminate has already started bubbling badly. To make matters worse, the colour we originally chose has been discontinued, and their suggestion to match it with what they have in stock is not feasible since it won't match the existing colour in the middle of the kitchen. Additionally, we have had ongoing issues with soft closing hinges, drawer runners and slides, despite paying extra for a 25-year warranty. Now we are being told to deal directly with the supplier, which is not acceptable. It feels like we paid a significant amount of money, only to be left with the impression that our problems are not their concern. In summary, the product and customer service have been subpar. I wanted to share this with you in the hope that we can address these issues and prevent similar experiences for others in the future.

What to consider before you shop around
Define your needs
Before you even start looking for a kitchen renovator, it’s a good idea to figure out what you want out of your kitchen.
Consider the following questions:
- What’s your budget?
- What do you need from your kitchen?
- How many people do you cook for?
- Are you renovating just some aspects of the kitchen or doing a complete makeover?
- What appliances do you need?
After you’ve established the basics, it’s a good idea to think about the logistics of your plan, so ask yourself questions like:
- Are you pressed for time? If you want your kitchen renovated sooner rather than later, then you might want to avoid kitchen renovators that manufacture their cabinetry and components overseas. If there’s an issue with your cabinetry, it may take a while to order in new parts.
- Do you want a custom designed kitchen? Many companies offer custom designed kitchens to suit your exact style and preferences, but not all do.
- Are you just renovating your kitchen or other areas of your home? If you want fit outs for other parts of your home (such as wardrobes and entertainment units), then look for a renovation company that can do these designs as well.
Kitchen layout
The right kitchen layout will help ensure that your kitchen is functional, easy to use, and easy to clean. If you’re able to play around with the layout, make sure that the area isn’t too cramped and that there’s enough space for cooking, cleaning, and storage. If you like to entertain, this might affect the layout too.
You might also want to consider aiming for a ‘kitchen work triangle’, which positions the cooktop, sink, and fridge in a triangle so that it’s easy to go between them. Of course, if you’re opting for a single wall kitchen, a triangle won’t be possible, but you can still place these three areas evenly apart.
The four main kitchen layouts are:
- Gallery
- U-shaped
- L-shaped
- Single wall
Cabinetry
Cabinetry will account for most of the cost of renovation. You can choose from already assembled cabinets (such as those you’d find from Ikea) or custom-made cabinets. While already assembled cabinets are cheaper, they can be difficult to find in the right size for your kitchen.
How about kitchen refacing?
There’s also the option to reface your kitchen. This means that you keep the existing cabinetry but just replace the doors, drawer fronts, and exterior components. This is a cheaper option that’s suitable if your cabinetry is in good condition but you still want to change up its style.
Benchtop
Some benchtop materials include (but aren’t limited to):
- Engineered stone: durable, easy to clean, resistant to staining and scratching, and comes in range of colours (you can even have flecks of stone through it).
- Laminate: relatively cheap, resistant to staining, easy to keep clean, and comes in a wide range of colours and designs that can imitate more costly materials like timber and stone. However, it can be susceptible to scratching.
- Timber: needs to be coated with food-safe oil to protect it and requires recoating every year or so.
- Stainless steel: heat resistant and durable.
- Marble: quite porous and pricey, but with the right maintenance you can keep it looking spick and span.
- Porcelain: dense, non-porous, durable, and very resistant to heat and stains.
Appliances
A lot of your budget will go towards your kitchen appliances (if you’re getting new ones). You can read buying guides and user reviews for the following:
- Ovens, including freestanding ovens and wall ovens
- Cooktops, including gas, induction, and electric cooktops
- Range hoods
- Fridges
- Dishwashers
- Microwaves
What to look for in a kitchen renovation company
Licensing
It’s your responsibility to ensure the tradespeople you contract are licensed and insured. Any plumbing or electrical work has to be done by a professional, so do your homework before you commit to a kitchen renovation company.
Materials
Some companies have partnerships with certain appliance brands, so if you’re set on fitting out your kitchen with, for example, Smeg appliances, then make sure the renovator can accommodate this.
If the renovation company also owns the factory where their cabinets are made, then that can indicate that they have more control over quality as well as timing. Choosing local manufacturing can also have the benefit of a lower carbon footprint and faster delivery of goods.
Customer service
The best way to figure out what a renovator is like to work with is to read reviews from their customers. Look for how professional and friendly they are, how their project management skills were rated, and whether the tradespeople who came to reviewers’ homes were punctual, tidy, and explained what they were doing.
Cost
What you spend on your kitchen renovation will depend on your budget, where you live, your design and style preferences, and the current value of your home. A common rule of thumb is to spend somewhere between 5 and 10% of your home’s total value on redoing your kitchen.
Warranty
A good indicator of the quality of a renovation company’s materials and construction is the warranty that they offer. Many kitchen renovation companies will offer a 10-year warranty on their cabinetry - this general shows that they back their products and service.
Ask for a written guarantee
If you’re undertaking a kitchen renovation with a company, ask for a written guarantee on the work and material supplied. This will help ensure that the work is completed to a high standard and meets all necessary regulatory guidelines.
The bottom line
It’s important to feel completely confident in and comfortable with the kitchen renovation company you choose to go with. You should feel at ease asking as many questions as you need before committing to anything, and not feel pressured into making a decision.
Take your time, decide on what you want, and consider your options to ensure you end up with a kitchen that you love to spend time in.
